Orthodox Incense in Church & at Home.
How and why we use incense and the different varieties of it. There are different grades. The highest is called Hojari. Within Hojari is also a darker, sweeter variety called Nedji. Some mix both. If you are on a budget the Greek mixture called Livani is also pleasing.

I must side with the Old Believers on this one, even being baptized "Uniate"; fore finger straight, middle finger slightly bent, the other three fingers together. Both represent the same belief. I'm thinking pride, about nuances in rubrics, are what continue schism.
@@nicky5683 Let’s see how well that last statement holds up for the Uniates under the influence of Rome. I’m quite sure the Old Believers would also agree.
Your grace what’s your view on the churches with the new calendars me personally, I’m a part of an Orthodox church with the new calendar. We celebrate for 12 days of Christmas until the offer he still and do all the things you mentioned in the video but being on a new calendar, our celebration days are different. Thanks for the insight.
I follow the Old Calendar for observing the feasts. For some OC implies other things as well. That is not me. All the Orthodox, new or old calendar, celebrate Pascha together. They may call the day by different dates but it is still the same day. Some felt it was important to have the church the same as the civil dating and so 1 by 1 they switched. But we also see people living with the civil calendar and at the same time follow their cultures such as, Asian lunar calendar, the Jewish calendar, and also the Muslims. Honestly I don't see why can't have our cultural calendar as well.

I'm RC and my priest addressed this a few months ago...people doing it too quickly or being super sloppy in public because they don't want to be seen as "Catholic" when doing it before meals.

I showed 2 of many versions for home use. If you mean the censer on chains that style is used in church. There is no prohibition for a layman to have one but it's generally not done.

Archbishop Raphael, another very good video! My mother was raised Orthodox, I was raised Southern Baptist (my father is a very understanding person). As a protestant, I have never seen icons as a form of idolatry (I look at them as I would photos of family members). I grew up with a cross and an icon of St. George over my bed. Neither have a seen prayer to saints as worship. Who better to ask to pray for someone than those who sit at the feet of Our Father and Our Savior? My wife thinks me strange, but she loves me just the same (she was raised Pentecostal, but I don't hold that against her)… I am grateful for your channel and the wisdom you afford us.
@@georgebrown9994 Blessings George and thank you. You are correct about the saints. We worship God as Trinity, we venerate the Virgin, and we commemorate the saints. Good icons are never photo real and should never depict the Father. Some unfamiliar might call this naive art. It isn’t. Its symbol to help us. I’m sure families of different beliefs can be challenging. What is important is being open, loving, and above all good communication that doesn’t create conflict. I’m happy for you that you found Orthodoxy. I too am a convert. I know what that means and what can happen with those around us. In the end it is our relationship with God that matters, not other’s confusion.

Your Grace, what do u think could be done to solve ecumenism in the church?
Blessings! This is a broad question not easily answered. In my channel description I say I am here to teach and inspire only. No Orthodox politics, jurisdictional disagreement etc. That is way too volatile for this setting and off topic. I will however give an opinion that may or may not satisfy you. Certain issues can be resolved on a local level. Others might even require a council. Opposing sides have reasons that they can back up with scripture, tradition and patristics. Both are at times stubbornly convinced they alone are correct. This doesn't get anyone anywhere. It only creates hostilities. We are a single body of believers. Until such time that the hierarchs get together with open minds, hearts, and love a satisfactory answer can not be achieved. That is how the Holy Spirit works. I personally do not like rules and laws as such. There is always a lawyer to challenge those things. The Lord Himself said plenty about the Pharisees. I prefer we delve into what principles inspired the rules and laws. If people get together on that level I believe things can be worked out.

@ user-jb7vi5rw7e Dialogue is coexisting in peace. Communion and unity is a very different issue.
I became interested in Eastern Orthodoxy after I started looking into church history and church fathers. I can’t wait till I get a more reliable car to go to church with since the nearest one is an hour away. My whole life I didn’t know what true Christianity was because my family goes to a heretical “church” it’s basically “Oneness Pentecostal” I was surprised that my whole life I thought that’s what Christianity was. Pray for me please.

Christ is risen father! Please pray for me, I was Protestant as a child (little to no faith) because of my family but I stepped away from the faith entirely. Last year I stepped into Assumptions of the Theotokos Cathedral in Denver and the imagery of the saints and our Jesus Christ himself of that beautiful church genuinely called me back to God. I’m on a spiritual journey and as you can assume I’m new and unfortunately struggle greatly with my daily habits. I’m rambling at this point so again, please just pray for me father.

Thank you for the video, Bishop. I have a small Icon corner at home, and really enjoy burning incense when possible. Do you have any recommendation for an incense that has woody tones? There are many on the market, and as a newly baptized Orthodox Christian, havent had the pleasure to try all of them. Many blessings from Eustis, FL. Thanks again.
@@SuperXeroNine Blessings Daniel and welcome to the family. The only incense we Orthodox use for church or home is frankincense. Sometimes in low grade frankincense there might be small pieces of the trees bark still attached to the tears. We don’t use other varieties.

Who cares how I make the sign of cross? Many times I’ve seen the catholics do the same
YOU should care! And the Orthodox method is not the same as the Catholic.
@ My grandmother taught me how to make sign of the Cross just like you showed in this video. But I started going to the Catholic church. I saw many times how they made sign of the Cross with three fingers. So I think it doesn’t matter because we are Christians

The two nature is well explained in Miaphysite unless it is nestorianism heresy that still considered as the right theology in eastern orthodox.
@@አናንያ Orthodox believe in 2 natures - perfect God & perfect Man. We are not Monophysite, nor Miaphysite and certainly not Nestorian. Perhaps you should google things.
