Doing deep dive analyses into video games.
It's time to look at Suicide Squad rationally
A serious critique and analysis of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a game that should be studied closely.
It's hard to separate out the senseless hate from the genuine criticism when it comes to games as widely hated as Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. There's a lot of things this game gets fundamentally wrong, but missing from the conversation around this game is what was actually done well.
What's more disappointing than anything else when it comes to this title is that the cynical game design has undermined some genuinely good work. I want to go in balanced and look at what this game really means.
Hope you enjoy! :)

An Assassin's Creed Mirage Analysis. Assassin's Creed Mirage was marketed as a veritable return to form for the series, but did it really accomplish this goal? It targets the three core pillars of the classic Assassin's Creed formula, those being parkour, combat, and stealth. Overall this is a stride in the right direction for bringing back the soul of the classic AC games, but not everything i...

An analysis of Cocoon. A charming game that, while highly praised among most outlets, has a lot of criticism for its puzzle complexity. However, this perspective misses the achievements the designer, Jeppe Carslen, makes in the precise design of the puzzles in Cocoon. Here I explain Cocoon and analyse what makes it work. Hope you enjoy! :) Please check out the story analysis from @pixelponderin...

Awesome break down man, dang
Batman: "You can defeat me by working together. Your team, your family, can turn the tide to victory." Squad: *goes through INDIVIDUAL mental journeys, with no sincere emotional interactions between the teammates the entire game, just point guns at Batman and shoot*
i’m one of those “roots” people + i got it half off and i still feel scammed
Best video I've watched on this game, and I've watched many. EXCELLENT work.🤙
This game is pointless
DONT EVER MAKE THAT SOUND. Thumb down at 4 am despite most of the video being on point. OMG you made me so mad. Was it worth losing a subscriber? NEVER make that sound again
I only bought it for 30 bucks it’s that bad. I’d say it’s a thirty dollar game
People take the Harley scene way too seriously. Harley has captured Batman twice, once in arkham city in Harleys revenge and another in the animated series. She killed him because it was no longer Batman and she even said it was what he would have wanted.
Terrific analysis. Several deeply nuanced points of view argued from a perfectly intellectually consistent perspective. Liked, subbed.
A well thought out and put together video I've seen review after review destroying ssktjl but few ever really dive into what is actually bad about the many issues at a micro level. When I see a new game in the works I never feel excited anymore especially since the industry and generally life as a while has forced many of us to grow up more cynical than we should have. I used to play some titles religiously but nowadays I never even touch my consoles since few singleplayer experiences are being produced anymore. In summary good video, that really sheds light on the baked in problems with the game
Its not too late for Rocksteady to say this is an elseworld story outright.
"Give us all your money, now. And buy these extra skins too. Here's a bundle that we've "discounted" for you. Oh, what? The actual game? Yeah...yeah...we'll get around to it. Hey, did you see this new skin we released? You've only spent $100 so far, but, hey, this skin is just $15." Literally every live-service game to ever exist.
6:08 🤨
The first mission set the game for me. Instead of a cutscene of metropolis being invaded or the fight between brainiac as he takes control over the league and city. We don’t get any of that, not even an opening with a big bang that gets you excited for more like the avengers game. It starts slowly and flat and remains as such
52:25 I get what you're doing, and not to say I disagree with what you're saying, but please don't do that again.
Brother, the time to look at the game "rationally" would've been at launch, not months later. If it takes you that much time to separate your own biases from your opinion then ,boy howdy, you have a rough road ahead
Great video !!!! Very detailed and informative.. much appreciated!!!
I was looking for an hour long video to watch, and youtube recommended me this.
I know how to fix the game. Always have. It seems possible too. Give half of the four characers the same control and moveset as the Batman from Arkharm and add way more stealth and slow parts. Then allow people to switch back and forth between small objectives and slow steady progression like Batman. This could be Harley/Shark segments. And then the other characters remain exactly the same as they are. BAM! 8/10
Sunset Overdrive is still orders of magnitude more fun 😁
This game is ass 😂
The people criticising it when it released WERE criticising it rationally. Instead you’re reviewing it optimistically if you’re less negative than they were
oh god, any one played the origin~valhalla AC game well be remind of the witcher 3 for sure....the TW3 clones of AC era.
Great watch! Gamers gotta stop supporting these generic slop games. So many studios are stuck chasing their own live service generic cash cow instead of making risky new ideas or new fun ideas because so many of us keep feeding into this nonsense. Which is hilarious coz there are so many successful live service games but they basically got their success by being the first of their kimd or best at something and now instead of people trying to create their own formula they keep tryna rinse the same formula and somehow replicate the magic. Meanwhile theres so many good single player atory games or indie games or double AA games you name it still giving us new ideas and magic but they arent anywhere near as profitable as these slop generic games so studios keep turning their heads. Even surprises me to see Warner see the success of Hogwarts Legacy and they somehow thought having Rocksteady go in this direction would work also knowing the success that Rocksteady had with the Arkham games.
the look on diana’s face is definitely a healthy combo of facial animation and capture. I used to do facial animation and 90% of the the time we had to tweak and fix the data that face capture got.
Good point. Yeah, my understanding is that key-frame adjustments are almost always needed in high-quality performance capture scenes, so I give tons of credit to both performers as well as the animators.
@@Pixel_Whip yup, and a lot of times we had to make them look “not as real” because while we all understand that some faces we make are wierd from an artistic standpoint they wanted them to always look pleasing. that depends on the project tho. This is the best facial animation i’ve seen in any game so far. it’s a shame it was on THIS game
This just shows that just because a developer has made good games before doesn't mean their next game is going to be a masterpiece
Insomniac is another example of this. Spider-Man 2 is nothing compared to the first one.
@UnseenHitman-1932 I loved spider man 2 but I can understand why u didn't like it
@@UnseenHitman-1932 I would much rather play that than kill the justice league
@@mikeythompson I would much rather play Spider-Man 2 too. But both are awful ( at least one has passable gameplay).
This reviewer definitely likes loli anime and has a Palestine and lgbtq flags along with pronouns in her bio.
You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain
Does anyone know what the song is at 48:50 ?
The boss fights had so much potential, so did the story had the Batcave been the first stop and we saw Bruce explain. Flash fight woulda been cool if laying traps and trip wires was the way to get him, taunts for Green Lantern and Batman being like Mr X woulda been amazing, the only thing you can do is run from him😂 🔥
It made me really emotional in the end. Not many games did, so those 2 games are still on my top 10 list
This game does have a lot of awesome visual details and cool Easter eggs for fans
I really tried to like it too in fact I had fun with it my first playthrough but dude this game sucks
Who, other than a sociopath or edgelord, wants to kill the Justice League over and over and over forever?
14 year olds. Although they're usually pretty sociopathic, lol.
I think he'd enjoy spiritfarer a lot
I dont know why people keep showing sympathy to anyone who bought this game. The writing was clear as day before the game released that it was gonna be terrible. These folks willingly went into this dumpster fire knowing damn well this was gonna be bad. They got what they deserve.
Man, this was an incredibly insightful video where one dumping on an easy target would have done. Subscribed! Easily.
So an important additional thing about Zaslav's quote regarding Suicide Squad's failure that wasn't mentioned was that it was a triple A game with live service mechanics and not a "true live service" game.
I remember all those people defending this trash, talking about "the story isn't finished and the haters will be embarrassed when Rockstar sees thier vision though via the dlc" So far the dlc have little story to introduce new playable character and then copy and pasted enemies including the big bad with slight changes to the world like christmas lights or something.
This game is now $34.99 on ps, Is it worth it guys?
Indie games cover the entire "you can do better for $30 and under" market.
@@johnskelington thank you
even for free it looks like a waste of time
"Combat feels... much better now." You lost me. Modern AC combat sucks ass.
This game and the cancellation of the 3D animated Batman Beyond movie made me lose hope for DC altogether
bruh rocksteady cancelled a batman beyond game for this
Great video, I feel the effort put into it.
I think Tunic does this much better. In case you don't know, in that game you get an old-school Game Guide that's written in a language you don't know and is missing stuff. By progressing, you add context to the guide and understand how things work. You basically unlock knowledge more than you unlock plain old moves. It's not entirely to the point of "Knowledge is power" like Outer Wilds where by knowing where to go and what to do you can completely the game in 10 minutes.
Gameplay loop being so dull and repetitive is its biggest issue. I’d argue it has a more solid foundation as a game than most live service games especially as a first outing for the devs. The only issue really is the lack of variety. Everything else just like any other bad at launch looter could potentially be fixed down the line it’s just the power of hate bandwagoning and RUclipsrs leeching likes off of “hot topics” that these things get blown out of proportion and a company that’s provided quality work now gets shunned or shut down cuz the internet exaggerated and showed no mercy
For the Animus glitch, they should have made it so that before the animation where Bassim assassinates one of the guards he executes, there's a QTE of one of the random face buttons. And the longer the chain of enemies, the less time you have to input and the more absurd the buttons you need to press becomes. So the first enemy could be X but the 4th enemy could be Up on the Dpad or L3. If you mess up any of the QTEs Bassim fails to kill the guard he's on and is forced into combat.
1. Rushed development led to a buggy release and negative reception 2. In the following year AC Syndicate became the poorest selling flagship title. 3. The message was clear; people were tired of Assassin's Creed 🤦♂ Dude, do you work at Ubisoft? Because you have the same funny logic
I REALLY wanted to like Mirage but I just hate the gameplay of modern Assassin's Creed games. Just all of it. The combat, the weightlessness of everything, the ship mechanics, the eagle, replacing the mini-map with the compass, etc. Its just worse in my opinion. I recently played Unity and while that game was a buggy mess that pissed me off a lot, when I was having fun, it was really fun. While in mirage.. I'm never having fun because the core gameplay sucks compared to what we had. Unity was a bad game in my opinion, I ended up giving it a 2/5. But.. it was fun enough to where I finished it. For all of it's many, many flaws.. when it worked, it was fun. Mirage though... I have very little desire to play it and I'm only in the first city after completing the tutorial.. why? Because I'm not having fun. I put 70 hours in Odyssey, only completing it because I wanted the achievements, but I rarely had fun playing that game. It normally takes me about a week to two weeks to finish a game. It took me months to beat Odyssey. Valhalla was terrible and I dropped it after a few hours. 28:16 minutes in, fully agree. This is something I HATE in open world games. Being punished for discovering a location too early in an OPEN WORLD GAME because it's a quest location. Why not make a dynamic quest system like let's say, Fallout 4, where if you picked up an item early because you already visited that location, then you can hand in the quest instantly. This rewards you for exploring the open world, and can be a fun moment when you realise "oh wait, I picked this thing up already". There's nothing more immersion breaking than finding you can't progress in a certain area because you haven't started the quest yet. This happened to me CONSTANTLY when I played Far Cry 4. 45:20 minutes in, again, I fully agree. I HATED the supernatural and fantasy aspects of Odyssey. Fighting a cyclopes and visiting Atlantis? Seriously? I liked how the early AC games made sense. They had basic rules for world, but in the newer games they started adding all this shit about gods and I just.. I'm not into it at all. I think it's terrible and thrown the rules of the AC Universe into wack. If they'd just said "hey some of this stuff didn't actually happen, we just installed some stuff to make the Animus a better training ground" then yeah, I could give the games SOME slack. I'd still criticise it as silly, but at least it'd make sense in the context. But they didn't do that. It's all canon, and I hate it. 52:00 minutes in, once again, I fully agree. They threw the story away in order to milk these games for along as possible. The became more interested in selling microtransactions and DLC's, instead of focusing on a focused plotline with interesting drama and characters. But to be honest, outside of the first couple games which weren't perfect, they at least had an interesting story coming together. The new games are self-contained and aren't very interesting. Which is the norm for Ubisoft. They simply don't have any good writers as it's not what they value. Unlike the Yakuza series which have fantastic (for the most part) stories, Ubisoft is more interested in a set piece that they can make more profit from, rather than actually do anything that requires effort. I have very little faith in Ubisoft making Assassin's Creed good again. They need to wipe the slate and get a whole new team in to write these games. But that won't happen. Ubisoft are money grubbing assholes as they have proven over, and over, and over, and over again. Special editions, microtransactions, battle passes, season passes, DLC, etc. They care more about profit than the games they're making. The dev teams surely have some talented people working for them, but they aren't given the opportunity to shine because that isn't what Ubisoft wants.
What do you mean hero like Batmen she just taking about just Batmen.
little to late to milk this at this point
