The real version of this locomotive was featured in the Are You Afraid of The Dark episode, “The Tale of Train Magic”.
Thank god they put the first gen 844 whistle in that engine. They were overusing the VL big boy whistle.
I read the newer ones doesn’t have 844 announcements
@@Craiggg12345, probably not. They did away with road specific crew talk a long time ago except high end models. My first gen 844 has the road specific crew talk.
@@Craiggg12345 It does not have crew specific talk. However, it does have a really good sound system, and the crew talk is accurate to what the folks sound like who would have driven those FEFs

The real UP Bigboy and 844 have worn the same Hancock 5 chime whistle since they were built. This tone imo ,sounds like a Hancock whistle that has a bad chime or is frozen.

Congratulations! This video showed up in my feed at random and was amazed to find out that your first set came from Southerland Station! I’m good friends with one of the owner’s daughters and we talk about the old store all the time. I bought a bunch of stuff from them over the years and was devastated when they decided to close. I’m just starting to work on a new layout myself. I’m looking forward to seeing your progress man!

Hey sam that NFS diesel i bought at the store back in february i think it is a legacy engine do you know if it can have the horns changed on it through the cab 1L remote? i do have the remote but waiting on the base 3 to come out
It is a TMCC engine, but it has the 5 adjustable sounds that most modern legacy engines come with. And yes, you can do that via the aux 1 button
@@Sams_Trains cool deal and i wish lionel wouldve kept the command thing until the base3 came out and i saw on will2926’s video when he visited the store when ryan and dave was there where they worked with that older man with the i think it was called the base 3 app? and i cant wait for that too just glad i upgraded to a iphone 15 haha

I can’t stand that original horn. My lionel UP SD40T-2s from 2008-ish have that horn, really crappy sounding horn. Now my MTH CSX “black hornets” SD40-2s sound so much better on every level. Yes i know different manufacturer but lionel really dropped the ball with the original horn. The horn on the new board you put in sounds much better.
That's exactly why I changed it! I think the original horn is okay, but I like this one a lot more
For the price of a small used car, it better be extraordinary. If not, it is like you are pissing money away. Cheers!

What’s the problem you obviously have a good size space you could have laid down some real wide curves over there what happened?
I went with sharper curves, that's what I did wrong

Well i guess i’ll have to pull out my MTH PS2 DM&IR yellowstone and see what she can max out at. Last time i had it out it was running conventionally at a little over 12 volts and it was pulling 63 cars without breaking a sweat. I could only imagine if it had a full 18 volts what it would do.

@@Sams_Trains, will do. I have to take the engine to the chicagoland lionel railroad club in order to do it because that’s where i ran it when it had 63 cars behind it. The whistle on that particular engine is ear piercingly loud.

Thank you! I had to use it because of the tighter curves on my layout. While the big boy could pull the 71 cars by itself, the weight of the train caused the lighter coal cars to derail often on my O72 curves
