Apologies for the Instagram orientation at the beginning, but I didn't want to leave it out! Digging up a couple of plants which started life as self seeded or foraged seed potatoes - a weeks worth of spuds for the four of us. A great way to christen a new garden bed with basically free soil - broken down woodchip and homemade compost.

A very late update taking a look at the periphery of the veggie patch as well as the usual progress report.

Yesterday I finally got around to netting the fruit trees. When the fruit has set (just started to grow), and there are no more flowers to be pollinated, then it is time to get the net on in order to have the best chance of a pest free harvest.

The latest update in the veggie patch. Reaping the first harvest of peas. Plenty of growth, lots of potting up, abundant slugs! And some lovely Hippeastrums for something different.

With all the trees growing up so quickly and a few other projects completed, I thought it was time for an update.

Such a good feeling to give a bit back to the earth. Sieving the compost and dressing the veggie patch.

Food coming out of the Galaxy Garden! Peas are close to being harvested two and a half months since the gardens creation.

This is the best way of maximising the fertility on your property. No plastic bags, no putting the green bin out and no industrially produced chemicals. Essentially fermenting organic matter to produce bacteria and nitrogen rich fertiliser. I cover worm wee, compost tea, and weed tea, the signs of healthy fertiliser and applying it to the garden.

Wind! Not a great friend to the veggie garden and fruit trees. A real tester of nerve and patience as it speeds up soil and plant dehydration, not to mention the destruction from more violent gusts. This video illustrates a few ways you can try and lessen it’s impact and recover your sanity!

The story of my 30km walk home from the city - life in the slow lane (I’m sure there is a parody song in there somewhere). All the film clips were posted on Instagram as a story, so they are made in portrait on purpose. A bit annoying for ‘normal’ viewing but that’s the way the cookie crumbled.
