I stand in my kitchen, Pot of soup on the stove. Replaying the glorious haunting tones that touch my soul. Knowing nothing of "Irish" music. Percussion from my chest/ heart. Intrinsic. Natural. Close my eyes. We are one in this world, I think. North Sea blessed by the sea currents that are millions? of years old. Gave rise to this ability to shape sound from minds that were able to imagine air and atmosphere were all around them. Synchronizing the impulses in the human organ that sprang from a desire to express thoughts and emotions in an auditory form that everyone would immediately understand. Seasons were upon them, and time and tide regulated their ability. Not the indestructible will of expression and communication, Visual beauty notwithstanding, is but a hook, to attract us to listen. Timeless beauty, from the Green Island...Happy to have travelled the length and breadth of this amazing place, Irish are Irish, and I'm jealous in a way, that I am not...I travelled in a band to the joys of the people. We had a number 1 record at the time and the Waterboys came to one of our shows...I am a drummer and always I think a crisp snare with brushes would make all the difference...but time moves on, Catherine is so talented and I could listen to her playing solo anytime...mesmerising musician touched by the past and gifted into the future...Maurice is a lucky man!!!

I've said it before, on other videos, that I believe Catherine Ashcroft has surpassed Davy Spillane and even Liam Og O'Flynn as the maestro An Piobhaire. This is the best accolade I could ever give the young lady, which is even more remarkable given the fact she is self-taught - oh, and English! Amazing woman and amazing music! :)
