retro stuff
My retro pc collection starts to pileup. But those old hardware will break down. It is not a question of IF, but WHEN.
So I started to record them, showcase them a bit and playing retro games on them.

Best details of the hardware you can see @LGR ruclips.net/video/pbrGuiCh_ug/видео.html
Even that the system has support for Windows ME and Windows 2000 Professional, I tested some games under Windows 98 SE.
I was having fun and I lost track of time. If you get bored, these are the times of the tested games:
Moto Racer 3 - at 23 mins
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit II - at 31 mins
Alien versus Predator Gold - at 38 mins
Quake 3 - at 47 mins
Quake 2 multiplayer with Eraser bots - at 55 mins.

In this video I show a retro multiplayer setup using two Pentium I classic systems (Siemens Nixdorf - Pentium 133mhz and IBM PC 330 - Pentium 166mhz) with serial and parallel direct connection cables. We DONT use any network cards in this video. I am controlling the Siemens Nixdorf in the left and my brother is at the IBM PC 330 in the right. We had lots of fun, lost track of time and the video...

At 18 mins, I say to play some aircraft simulation, but I jump to NFS. Some footage got corrupted. Sorry about that.

This is my Frankenstein 486 obtained from an Olivetti 486 M4 motherboard inside a Compaq Deskpro case, with the sound card and video card cramped with the brackets insideout. The back looks kinda hideous, but it works. It is my slow 486 for playing speed sensitive games and really ancient games with pc speaker sound only. I could watch this for a long time the way it loops from beginning to end and then beginning again. Also, since there's no bloatware, the load times between startup and shutdown is FAST.
Thx for the comment. The loading time was longer, that old 1.2 gb hdd is slow. But I had to cut/edit the video to make it under 1 min, maximum time alowed for shorts. I am glad you like it !
I've got a Toshiba Tecra 750DVD Laptop, with the Base Unit, sitting in my garage, with the same 233MMX and S3 Virge. I think it originally had Windows 95 on it, but tried for a long time to install a Linux distro on it. Going to have to try again and see what I can do.
Thx for the comment. It really make my day to see people reviving some nice old hardwere. I hope you get it running and maybe this retro hobby will catch on you. But dont get dissapointed if the Toshiba will not work in the first try. If the hdd is bad, there are modern solutions like ide-CF, ide-sata adapters, if the floppy drive is bad, there are gotek floppy emulators... and so on. Patience is good in the retro hobby.
Please normalize your audio as it's hard for us with hearing difficulties to hear.
Yes
cool similar to my old system. Most of those games you could run on a 486dx2 though! push it with unreal tournament or something!

"now you're playing with Siemen" wait, no
You are funny, man! 😀
@@retroboby007 Funny how?
@@parapoliticos52 It is a pun/joke. Look for siemen (without S) in Finnish language (Language of Finland)
"Old good days!"
Indeed good old days! Things were simple and we had more fun playing video games.
I used to do this back in the day, before LAN parties were a thing.
Me too! Back in highschool, my best friend had a 486 dx2 66mhz and I helped him carry the pc and monitor to other friend who had a Pentium 75. So with just a simple serial null cable we had a mini LAN party. No drivers or setup needed. We played DOOM deathmatches a lot.
Excellent
At the part where I test running Redneck Rampage, RUclips censored the ingame music. It is a violation of my customer rights. I bought the game and I cant use the game. The music is part of the game, The game has copyrights Xatrix Entertaiment, not Mojo Nixon.
What's the name of that game? :0
It is called Shadow Knights. I made a long video about this pc running that game, on my channel.
@@retroboby007 oh thank you :)
Sick!
Nice pc
Thanks for the appreciation. I will use it again in other videos for retro multiplayer through serial cable.
Eu tinha um 386
I miss terminal velocity.
It was a cool game with some interesting new elements of gameplay. That flying through tunnels, I saw only in Ace Combat series many years later.

had very simmilar setup as my first ever pc, 233mmx paired with s3 virge gx/dx with 2mb extended memory on simmilar motherboard (sim and edo ram slots), as a finished I added voodoo 2 at around 2001
Cool setup you had there. I totally missed the voodoo cards, back in the day. From 386 SX 16mhz I jumped to Athlon XP Thunderbird 1.1 ghz with Geforce 4 MX440 and later Geforce FX5200
@@retroboby007 wow that was a noticable performance jump :) I went to Pentium 3 733mhz and then Pentium 4 3.2 GHz and then athlon phenom X4 :p
Pretty Sneakie Sis' Man, all the Teachers had that Deskpro in Highschool
Indeed. It was a pretty good office pc with pentium 133 mhz. Too bad that the motherboard died. But it lives on with the olivetti 486 inside of it.
It is a nice game. I used to play it too when I was a kid, on my familly 386 SX 16mhz. I was renaming the stages files to acces the boss levels faster.
I used to play this game every day in my dad's office
Did you managed to finish the game, back in the day? It has no save function so it takes a lot to play from begining to end.
@@retroboby007 I forgot about that. I was 5 years old at that time.
i had the s3 virge. i still remember all the driver problems
I found it very interesting. There were drivers for ms-dos even, the S3vbe20 to load for better resolutions. I tried glquake in windows 98 with miniGL wrapper patch, but it was a slideshow. I needed an amd K6-2 to run GLQuake on S3 ViRGE at decent framerates.
my first computer was almost like that, very similar even externally
The CMI8330 sound chip (Sound PRO HT1869V) is quite nice for an old integrated solution, it is compatible with Sound Blaster 16/PRO/2.0, AdLib and Windows Sound System 2.0. Also the internal OPL3 clone synthesizer is really good.
So weird - today I just played the Quake and Terminal Velocity remasters on my Xbox, and now RUclips recommends this. Great games, amazing how well things designed for 4:3 1024x768 on a 14-17" monitor hold up in 16:9 HD on a giant flatscreen. Nice to see the originals get some love
Well played my friend.
Great classic setup. Love this video. Socket 7 are my favorite retrogaming machines.
Thanks for the video!
very good
My first pc back in 1998 was a Pentium 3 DTK! Been looking everywhere online for used peripherals and towers to recreate it but they are hard to find.
Wanna hear something funny? Your video was recommended to me as I was watching a Mr Beast Video.
It is funny indeed. Mr Beast is soo coool!
No loot boxes, DLC, internet required. Just put the CD in and play. I miss those days. I never did play Test Drive 3, looks like it came out in 1990. Pretty good graphics for the time.
I miss those days too and I try to relive them by playing with these vintage/retro systems. Test Drive 3 is my "obsession" in a good way. The game was ahead of it's time (1990-1991). The cars handling was bad, but the tracks were just awesome! You start from nice weather near a marine bay with boats around, then you drive to the mountains with bad weather like snow, rain, thunders. The cars have changing radios, head lights, windshield wipers (to clean the bugs splashed), there are low-flying airplanes near the tracks, there are cows, horses near the roads. And the cops are chasing you to give you speed tickets.
Please record a video on setting up the BIOS and setting up Windows 10 from scratch, it would be very interesting)
Unfortunately, I no longer have the system. I did some maintenance, reinstalled os and sent it back to the client. But soon I will get other "modern" systems in my service shop and will record setting up Windows 10 from scratch.
@@retroboby007 I'll be waiting for this video) I wanted to learn from you)
Played all those games LHX, Test Drive, Redneck Rampage. Almost forgot all the time I spent. on them.
Nice framerate
4-9th gen, not bad for todays gaming
Well Done Sir! My First PC was a Packard Bell 80286: They seem hard to come by in the states. New Sub! Detroit, Michigan, US
Thanks for the appreciation. My first pc was an Apricot Computers 386 SX 16mhz. Imposible to find, but I try to relive those memories by playing 386 games on 486 or pentiums.
I got 3 of them deskpro en in my collection great computers
The same configuration? There were some models with ess isa soundcards, branded compaq. Interesting soundcards with no gamepprt but with a special connector to the integrated sound speakers.
Never had a close look unfortunately might make a video about them one day@retroboby007
what os does that have
It has Windows 98se
@@retroboby007 ok
hello dear, I dont think even on a 386 the clock would sync to a real stopwatch.
I dont have a 386 yet, but I saw LGR testing Test Drive III on a 386 dx40 using a real stopwatch and he said it was a bit too fast. It needed a 386 SX 16mhz.
@@retroboby007 факт
What is the function of these seven-segment displays, used on the front of PC cabinets from the 90s?
It is part of the turbo function, a button to slow down the pc for use with older software. Back then, many softwares were cpu sensitive, so when you upgraded the pc, the expensive software you had was running too fast. So these "turbo button" were used to slow down the machine when those older and expensive softwares were running.
Great video! Just subscribed
Thanks for the appreciation. I have many more interesting retro pcs that will be on the channel. You will not be disappointed.

Thanks for the appreciation! I had a 386 sx 16mhz when I was in school. So for me was waiting wolf3d and prehistorik 2 when arriving from school. But I was playing doom at my best friend who had a 486 dx2 66mhz. Simpler time indeed!
