      Hahaha, you ain't kiddin'. This is more proof-of-concept than actual "music". Experiments to see what works (and sometimes what doesn't). I'll leave it up to my audience to judge objectively!

      Interesting! Hadn't started out with that in mind, but I can totally see how that would come about. The original chord was made up of its constituent notes, plus the root note was played an octave up and down as well. Each note was recorded in its own track and these were panned around in the stereo image and faded in and out.

    On the 0 ctrl you can modulate the time control through the row 3 output. This might be useful for your minimal cable challenge. With a stackcable you could get some double duty happening.

      Great idea! Another option would be to feed the touchplate/strength output back into the Time CV In patch-point a well so it modulates Time with different applied pressures.

    Great vid idea, man! Limiting yourself like this can really ignite creativity...it pushes you to approach things differently and step out of your comfort zone, I find...that's actually why I started making my sample packs in the first place...I wanted to see if I could make music without any synths at all...and now I'm hooked😁

      @@CNTRRNDM Yep, there’s so much to explore on the Music Easel that it’s easy to get into the mindset of patching absolutely everything, but as you mentioned, limitations can provide inspiration. As soon as I’d torn down the patch, I immediately got inspired to take the idea further and limit myself even more! That led me down another rabbit-hole, so much so that I’ve ended up with another four videos to publish - these will all be dropping throughout the rest of August, so keep an eye out for them :)

    As a fellow modular user and seeing some comments here... do you even consider this as music? (Do you care?) Sometimes i like following or maintain my music under some rules of rythym and harmony. But sometimes i find that what i want to express is beyond those rules, this generally doesn't mean that i want to do atonal music or random noises... is something else. But then when the job is done i get the kind of comments you get and then realize im not able to express anything as the listeners tend to just hear noise or a sequence of unrelated sonic events (sounds like a good name for a project 🤣) So anyway i like what you did here and kinda makes me feel is connected to some of my creations, im curious to read what is your take /side about this kind of aspects i mention. Thanks

    • @BottleMakesMusic
      @BottleMakesMusic 2 месяца назад

      Sometimes it is just atonal "noise" and "sequences of unrelated sonic events" but I take leaf out of Stockhausen's et al creative output - some of the "music" from the avant garde and Music Concrete era really defies categorisation (even though, by attaching such labels, it then becomes categorised!). Even MakeNoise will describe the Strega as an "alchemical experiment" rather than an instrument in the truest form. I side with the experimental feel for my current content, although I have previously also made videos with a strong rhythmic base. At the end of the day, I am just documenting my explorations and I appear to have found a platform and an audience that appreciates those deep dives.

    • @axlscianca
      @axlscianca 2 месяца назад

      @@BottleMakesMusic ok, got it, thanks for the reply 😀 So on the cases where you document your explorations (as a sound journal I guess ) do you think it is more important the experience itself (and its register) rather than the sonic result?

    • @BottleMakesMusic
      @BottleMakesMusic 2 месяца назад

      It's difficult to really explain the process - sometimes I will have an emotional response to the material, like where it leads me, what do I feel after patching something and letting it run etc. Sometimes, I end up not liking the initial result, but then let it marinate for a while before committing to publishing it. I think it's important to capture the experience but also remain truthful to the intent behind it so in that way I'll often explain the process and the patching ideas in the description, so that other like-minded folk can see what goes into making the video.

    • @axlscianca
      @axlscianca 2 месяца назад

      @@BottleMakesMusic very clear, thanks for taking the time to explain. I think a lot of things you mention throw light into certain aspects of my creation process and output. The nice thing about the SQ1 is that it turns into a two-channel, eight-step sequencer (or really, any step-count up to eight on either channel, independently). Even better, if you're using the MIDI out, it appears as two consecutive channels i.e 1 and 2. • @BottleMakesMusic
      @BottleMakesMusic 10 месяцев назад

      Yes, they're on adjacent MIDI channels so the NDLR is set up for a polychained Pad part, the round-robin note allocation will vary between three and nine notes of polyphony IIRC as I modulated the size of the note pool within the NDLR. The Volcas are both set to Poly mode but I've voiced each one slightly differently for some variation in timbre etc. The SynthOne soft synth has a different voicing to cut through underneath.

      Thanks for listening! I've found with the 0-Coast that sometimes it can be a bit harsh and unforgiving (which is part of its charm too) but can also do mellow and subtle. I like the juxtaposition between the two states, especially when throwing Rings into the mix. In this patch Rings is just being struck by the Turing Machine's pulse output - I'm not modulating the Frequency or 1V/Oct input at all and I think that adds some character and a base for the 0-Coast to shine on top. Do let me know your thoughts!

      I'm going to work on this patch a little more over the Christmas break when I have some downtime, to really pick this apart and rebuild it. Some cool new stuff in the pipeline perhaps in the New Year..... *cough* Makenoise Strega *cough* if Santa's little elves see fit to stop by......

      Aww thanks! Can't take credit for the view - just luck of the draw when it came to the weather. Set the camera up and hoped for the best. As for the rest, well, I had some good tools at my disposal!

      @@BottleMakesMusic seriously, in my opinion, this is one of the best jams I've come across in a while! Definitely inspired me to get the Field Kits out...had a great ambient session yesterday and I'm already looking forward to tonight's session😁

      Great stuff! Glad it got you inspired. After all, that's the aim of the channel - to entertain folks, but also to demonstrate that it doesn't take tons of fancy gear or years of practice and experience to get something going. Go out and try stuff. Some of it will be garbage, and some of it won't find an audience, but slowly and surely, you'll find your tribe.

      Perfect! That's how I'd hoped it would be received !! It wasn't possible to set up and record on site on the day, so the audio was done later, but definitely inspired by my time there. Look out for Part II in the next couple of days

      My pleasure! I'm working towards including more and more of my synths into these videos, to be able to make a more cohesive track. Trouble is, I'm running out of mixer channels! Looking for a bigger mixer and other stuff on top. Having said that, I find that imposing limitations (either self or outside factors), rather than stifling creativity, helps breed a more creative atmosphere.
