Now you tell me what an old black man would call the African American equivalent of that person in their community. I'd like to know, for the sake of accuracy. And just so I understand, are you saying that you typically hear white folks say that "so and so is white trash, but at least he ain't a nig***"? I don't know any white people that say that. As a white woman from eastern KY I’m not going to argue with your interpretation of Tyler’s message. What I can say is this message wasn’t intended for Black and Brown Americans. It was intended for white rural Appalachians who’ve struggled to empathize with the plight of so many innocent BIPOC lives lost due to police brutality. He is trying to frame it in a way to reach his listeners. It’s not going to earn him a welcome reception back home. It’s not going to bode well with his primary audience. But Tyler has a unique opportunity to reach the minds and hearts of people who need to understand what is happening to Black men (and women) simply for existing. I am personally thrilled he put out this message and the song, because for the first time, hillbillies are starting to consider other perspectives. The same thing happened with Tyler’s video depicting gay coal miners in Appalachia. It moves us one step further from hate and othering.

Then he played for the South Sydney Rabittohs when he is in the green shirt. When he is wearing the maroon shirt he is playing for Queensland in the State Of Origin which is like the Superbowl of Australia NRL. The other team in the state of origin is NSW in blue. The state of origin is only played between Queensland and NSW and it is the battle to see who is the better state. Bragging rights and state pride is at stake. We take it very seriously. He was born and raised and played football in NSW but represents for the opposing side Queensland. He also represented Australia in the world football league.
