Ants On Line
Amazing cooperation. But how do ants communicate to know who should do what when carrying a 30 times bigger prey on a string between two trees?

Songan Bat cave

At the far end of the vast (12 km) caldera around the volcano Mount Batur, beyond the tempel Pura Hulundanu in Songan village, there is a shallow cave where bats dwell. From the lake in the crater English speaking people can recognise why the mountain is called Batur.

On the last kite festival of the Sari's Flying Circus tour in 1995; the one in the crater of Mt. Bromo, I saw a kite that I fell in love with. It was a simple wing and the kite skin was made of the skin from the banana plant. The kite fliers were from the island of Lombok (next island east of Bali). The kite was called Layang Goang [kite that makes sound]. The famous kite maker Eiji Ohashi, Jap...
Thor Nado

A high wind kite with a long integral tail. A local cargo boat broke its anchoring outside my beach during a storm and was washed ashore by high winds and big waves. My beach was thus turned into a shipyard for a few days as the broken outriggers were repaired. When the outriggers were being painted I noticed it was in exactly the same cerise shade as the tail of the Thor Nado.

Thank you so much Andreas for reminding me how absolutely wonderful it was. More thanks than I can ever say to Sari for organising such a magnificent event.
Thank you, Andreas for this series of videos from such a long time ago. Brings back such great memories of that trip! And... the mackerel was delicious!
A special technic by sewing the tail?
Yes, same that is used for the Balinese Janggan kite.
beautiful kite and good WAVES effect on organza tail
Thank you, Sandro. The tail design is an adaption of the tail of the Balinese Janggan kite.
mesmerizing!
Thank you, Akuma!
It's Knot Funny, it's brilliant, it's heartwarming, but foremost for me it's the light it shines on the character and mind-setting of both protagonists! I am not shy to admit, that this almost 70 years old grumpy guy (me) is emotionally touched when "playing" the story per imagination. Though it's just based on these documentaries in the social media, I have an impression and empathy of the joy of both of them: Graham when picking up the story about "starving for knots", researching all details about Andreas to be integrated into the mechanism, designing and building the gears, shafts, micro-Ashley and last but not least micro-Andreas, including struggling, redesigning, mumbling curses when things did not work out as intended...but at all time joyfully looking forward to the surprise he would see in Andreas' face and the shared happiness when handing over this mechanical soulful masterpiece! Andreas' surprise when he got the present, recalling the story behind saving the money required to purchase the book, preparing this video including sharing the story to the community and the recognition and appreciation of Grahams sensitive choice of the theme and his effort to realize it - ultimately expressed by the statement at the end of the movie at 7:07/7:19! Andreas and Graham, I am glad to know both of you in person and am looking forward to share hopefully many more happy events on kite-fields and beyond! Ron
BRILLIANT !!!
Génial, pour deux génies. Bravo Graham pour l'automate et bravo à Andreas pour la vidéo.
