    Mate, what is a fair price to charge someone to build one of these? I got someone wants to build a bigger version, that he has already half assembled... almost certainly incorrectly.

    Hi Andy😌🙌Nice growth you get on your cacti. The Mammillarias are large and healthy in your collection. I see you have a Echinopsis arachnacantha😌👏💖Beautiful yellow Flowers💞I'm surprised to see Copiapoas there. Do you move them to a shady cool place in summer?

    • @andyroo3022
      @andyroo3022 6 дней назад

      Hi again Newman. The Copiapoa seem to tolerate the bright light and heat well. I have a red flowering Arachnacantha as well. Beautiful bright scarlet red flowers. I lost a few mammillaria, mostly due to rot from too much water. Overall, I don't lose many plants, I seem to be able to keep them happy.

      Oh, really🤔You lost some Mammillarias to rot. That's interesting. I haven't lost any Mammillarias at all, but I lose my Astrophytums Ariocarpus to rot. I have Mammillaria mystax, perbella, magnimama, albilanata, marksiana. They actually enjoy the tropical humid summers, but definitely have a dry winter rest with a little water in winter. I also have a lot of elongatas too. My latest purchase is a cleistocactus colademononis which likes tropical conditions

    Nice climate for Cattleyas Andy😃👏💞They definitely hate to be wet. A lot of Cattleya come from seasonally dry places of Brazil, and the Colombian species are found way up in the trees where they dry out fast after every rain. I enjoyed watching😌🤲🌟Your Epiphyllum cacti are big and healthy, beautiful💖

    Hi Andy😌🙌Love the greenhouse😃👏💞You have a large collection there. Astrophytums are growing well aren't they. I saw a Melocactus, so it must be no colder than 15℃ there in Australia in Winter. Are you in Melbourne? Perth? The Cymbidiums are beautiful!😌🙌💖I have one that I made it through August😬👍The Dendrobium looks like kingianum. I love the fragrance.

    • @andyroo3022
      @andyroo3022 6 дней назад

      Newcastle area NSW. Close to the ocean so It wont go down below 5 and 7 degrees C a few days in winter, however not for many days. It does get down to zero C only 30 minutes drive inland in the Hunter Valley. I keep most pretty dry through winter. The Dendrobium was a small cutting I purchased from a lady on Gumtree sales nearby, it does smell nice. We got a lot of rain this winter and not too cold. The greenhouse keeps most my cacti happy and dry when it's cold. I have some bigger Trichocereus and a monstrose variety, some big Cereus Repandus and aloes out in the weather. They don't seem to mind the extremes in weather. It gets very hot in summer. Some bad days with Westerly winds get 40 degrees C. Fortunately not too often.

    Cactus soil mixture? Plz tell me

    • @andyroo3022
      @andyroo3022 2 месяца назад

      I mix a good quality potting mix(or soil) 2 parts with 1 part Coarse river sand for good drainage. I feel the sand is necessary to prevent rotting when the soil breaks down. The grit allows for healthier root growth. I just tried it and it seems to work. Make sur not to use fine sand. Must be coarse gritty river sand. Make sure any pots have good drain holes and sometimes I put broken terracotta pot or concrete pieces in the pot before I put the soil mix inside.

    • @andyroo3022
      @andyroo3022 2 месяца назад

      Ha another cacti grower also. Hi mate. Yes the yellow one is big Sulphur crystals. I also collected some good fossils of ferns, glossopteris leafs and horsetail stems. These plants were from the Permian period. Five minutes from my home there are old closed coal mines, part of the old Burwood Colliery in Newcastle NSW Australia. The coal seams are easily visible as layers in the ocean cliffs. I collected the fossils from the grey shale layers above and below the coal layers. The area has some old history to it, including a big old brick tunnel from the old train line for the coal. The line is now a walking track with some of the last remaining NSW coastal rain forest. The forest and its waterfalls run down to Burwood beach. Dudley beach further South can be driven to and has fossilised tree trunks on the ocean rocks. I recently walked down there and thought how lucky I am to live so close to the sea.

    • @andyroo3022
      @andyroo3022 3 месяца назад

      It gets very hot in the greenhouse in Summer. I open the door in the day and the roof window. I have to water the cactus a lot. Greenhouse is essential in winter. We get a lot of rain and it stays cold. If the cactus were outside they will die from root rotting. From cold wet soil. This month we have had a lot of very wet weather. I almost stop watering until Spring arrives. The cactus are happy in the greenhouse protected from cold rainy weather. Some big cactus are okay outside in Winter as long as the soil is draining away the water, or you keep then away from the rain. I live close to the ocean, so It usually only goes low as 5 to 7 degrees Celsius in Winter. At my friends farm near Cowra in Western NSW Australia it gets below freezing 0 degrees Celsius. No cactus growing there. Lots of Kangaroos, feral goats, deer and wild pigs. Thankyou Stephanie🌻

      I got these Ariocarpus already grafted from small seed grown plants. CactusGuys on eBay. I just type in Cactus Auctions and bid. They eBay cactus auctions mostly end on a Sunday night in Australia for the week. I purchased a few other cacti this way and usually get a good price. The Ario's arent cheap. I paid around $50 Aud. I got a lot of my Trichocereus this way too. They have grown big fast from small plants. I grew some Astrophytum, some Golden barrels and some Lophophora from seeds. I believe Ariocarpus are very slow to grow from seed as are Lophophora. Ariocarpus are very slow to grow on there own roots.

      It was a kit I got online. It was a bit fiddly to assemble, the instructions were only drawings and terrible to use. I did a video on my channel to help others who buy the greenhouse. I put pavers down and dyna bolted it down. I had to re do some sections before I worked out the right way around for some of the parts. It is a good little house though. Keeps them out of the rain in winter. It has a roof window I can let some heat out in summer. Man it gets hot in there.

    • @andyroo3022
      @andyroo3022 3 месяца назад

      No, the curved part of the window frame just goes under the edge and forms a kind of hinge. From memory hold the window frame about 45 degrees open and hook the curved bit under the top edge and close it should stay under the edge then. The window frame is confusing. I put a stronger bracket to attach the adjustable arm that holds it open. I have been meaning to put hinges, but surprisingly even in strong wind it stays attached even when open. I can film this bit if you still get stuck, let me know. Look at 4:04 on the video to see close the way the frame on the window is facing and part 15.

That allows for enough driving. You have a log book you fill out and sign yourself. You have to be affiliated with a car club to have the Historic Registration. I am lucky to take her out a dozen times a year. I need to go for a cruise. People love it and often wave and blast their horns when it is driving around.
