Kifaru slick bag 20 degree Regular Wide & Kuiu 15 degree Long Review
Fromn Snugpak: “The technical fabric of the Snugpak Special Forces Bivvi Bag, Paratex Dry, is breathable….”
What Island is it?
That’s on Vancouver island over looking cowichan bay
Awesome
I bought the trainer for my current frame, which is molle ii. That piece is the dogs balls. I'm going to the mountain again tomorrow for a hike to see the big difference from my other rig.
Let me know how it works out for ya
I have been looking and looking for a sleeping bag that would fit my needs. I made the choice to get the Kifaru slick 0 wide and long bag. I hunt the later seasons here in Idaho and need comfort down to sub-zero weather. That said, I saw you video with this bivy that seems to fit well with the Kifaru so I ordered one. Also, I have the thought that my seatosummit sleeping pad is similarly shaped and am thinking that it would fit well between the sleeping bag and bivy. This way, the bivy kind of keeps it all aligned while protecting the pad from getting poked from the ground and keeping it all dry at the same time. Thanks for this video!
Need Binos to see your stupid review
I've been shopping for a new pack for two seasons now. I can't decide, too many options.
Honestly I use kifaru and stone glacier. I find myself using stone glacier more, I like the simplicity and excellent load carrying.
SIR. Can you do a review on the Barney's Yukon with the Frieghter frame. It's 11,000 cu in. It's said to be the best pack in the world for carrying heavy weight. Love to see a 100 pound sandbag comparison for carry.
Can’t hardly hear what you’re saying man. Trying to see the differences in the comfortability between the frames on the stone and the kifaru
Check out the frame video or the newer video on packs, better audio
So which do you feel carries big loads better between the Stone Glacier and the Kifaru?
Great review. Wonder what your thoughts are on the new first lite omen vs the Yukon.
Great video man! Which one you recommend of the jackets for an all-season hunting jacket, the Kuiu or M5? Which one is the noisiest? And do you feel like the M5 is more yellow in person than it "should be"? It looks a bit too yellow to me, but I dont love the grey version either.
@@island-gear-review2359 Thanks for answering! Just sold my Arcteryx LEAF Alpha Gen 1 jacket actually, and trying to find a good replacement. Not been able to figure out what the best replacement is yet. I am tempted to buy a new LEAF Alpha LT, but it wont be in stock until autumn, and that is too long to wait. Do you have any experience with the Kuiu Yukon vs Kutana by the way?
Arc’teryx makes good gear. I haven’t used the Kutana yet I also bought it on sale a few weeks ago.
Simple and straight to the point. I’m definitely considering the m5 or the kuiu
I find the M5’s accepts DWR treatment a little better than kuiu Yukon. Maybe due to the kuiu being older and well used. The velcro zipper is unique, at the same time could be a weak point in long term usage. The arms are long for glassing, some people don’t like it when not glassing.
great review, I'm pretty set on Sitka gear but I'm gonna give the Stone Glacier rain gear a try! thanks
Does meat go between the bag and the frame? Muskeg7000
I would really love to get a thunder ranch bag. They are pricey though lol... way out of my price range
Thank you for the review. These premium hunting gloves can be pricy so I have to do a lot of research if I'm going to spend that kind of money. I really like the Yukon Gloves as I like the waterproof factor, but they do seem a bit bulky. I could see myself rifle hunting with them, but I don't see how I could bow hunt in them. Do you think the attack gloves provide enough warmth for 20 - 30 temps as that is what is the most I would probably encounter in Oklahoma. Thanks.
Thanks for watching The attack gloves would be good for active hunting in that temperature, in a tree stand or blind it would be cold. The axis glove would be a good choice for archery.
I'm late, but the guide X has a fleece lining and is water proof. Except the stitches, they didn't tape the seems. So it really does a good job of keeping your hands dry when it's cool and wet. They would suck at 20 to 30 so I can't imagine how the attack gloves would be. The expedition is super warm down to the range your looking for, especially if you're moving. The cuff isn't big, so your coat will fit down over it. It has the insulation with a wool lining. The keni is more like, if you're out and have on one of the base layers like the strong fleece and you didn't think it was going to get THAT cold. You could get the keni out and layer over top of your base. They are not water proof. I would recommend the guide X for sure, but not for cold. I like the expedition a lot. I would recommend getting the pitards leather. It allows you gloves to really grip things. The ones without are definitely more slick.
Excellent info thank you
Awesome review on the Packs. I’m looking at either a SG or a Kifaru pack I’m 6’5” 270lbs mostly bow hunting elk and moose in western Canada so far mostly day hunts however I want to get into some longer hunts. Just wondering if you have a suggestion one over the other for a big guy and potentially heavy loads with moose quarters. Thanks for awesome review again.
I think kifaru has more options for frame size and shoulder strap length. Sounds like 26” frame and long shoulder straps would be a good option. As for pack Hoodlum or Fulcrum would cover all bases for any length of hunt. I’ll be selling a kifaru 26” frame soon i find the 24” fits my body better. Also have a few bags. I’ll send another message when I get back from work next week
Can you tell me the brand and where to find that adapter for EL? thanks!
Outdoorsman bino adapter outdoorsmans.com/collections/studs-adapters
Thanks great video! Any other waterproof bags similar to this that anyone is aware of?
The new SG terminus 7000 would be a option to look at.
Nice review! , how is this for a day pack? Can u compress it down good? Only thing I wish it had was big side pockets for spotting scope /tripod Is it bow friendly if a guy wants strap a be on the back ?
You could use is for day pack for sure. If you want side pockets the dall pack would be the next option. I never secured my bow to the pack as of yet but the 2 straps and the handle at the bottom would do the job.
@@island-gear-review2359 right on thanks , good to know , I might just get the hoodlum .
Other brands worth a mention are Savotta, Crib gogh, Jayjays and Warrior assault systems.
What do you think about the SG vs Eberlestock?
Elerlestock is a decent entry level pack. My first pack was dragonfly pack. Their heavy and don’t hold weight as comfortable as SG. I would budget a good pack boots and optics. Go cheap on apparel.
@@island-gear-review2359 I just really like how there are so many different packs for different situations for eberlestock, but I have heard that eberle doesn’t carry heavy loads well.
I would classify them in the top tier of say bad lands, Cabela’s. Their good in that price range. The top tier packs are more expensive. The mystery ranch metcalf is probably the best bang for the buck. Secures the weight better than most packs. The frame creates tension that holds the load in place.
@@island-gear-review2359 thank you for the responses. After a ton of research I’ve narrowed it down to SG vs Kuiu. Time and time again I keep leaning more toward SG. Any thoughts on these two compared to each other?
Well out of SG and kuiu Kuiu goes on sale every year. Their made in China or somewhere else. SG claims made in USA. I find SG load shelf beats everything hands down best design. The shoulder straps leave something to be desired though. I personally carried over 100 lbs. with it in the mountains. 65 lbs of gear plus rifle, water and black bear. It held up great. Mind you I was in better shape for that hunt, than I am now. I would go SG Sky guide 7900 for long trips Solo 3600 for weekends or day hunts
Do you know if a Kifaru Stryker bag will fit on the SG frame?
@@island-gear-review2359 let me know Thanks
Check out my instagram have photo
@@island-gear-review2359 Thant would be great. Please notify me if you can get to it. Love Kafaru bags but not fan of the suspension system for my body. Would like other options
Very informative. Good comparison video. helped me decide!
Momble Mumble Mumble!!! Like you are talking to yourself, with mouth full of tobacco juice!!!!????
I do agree this video wasn’t good, that’s why I made a new one. This was only to help inform people that are interested in buy from the top tier pack companies. You don’t have to watch any of the videos.
Just checked out your RUclips ch, looks like you just post other peoples content. Lol
Where on the island are you? I'm in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island as well! Great bit of kit there bruv! Thanks for sharing your Bob with us! Cheers, Jerbs 👍🏼🔥🔪🇨🇦
Great review man thank you!
Thanks for watching Cody
Jus got mine set up, the large fit my bino's just right with the magnet closure. I noticed the bear spray pouch is smaller than the average bear spray can, what size bear spray did ya get, n where? Thanks for the vid, is what convinced me.
Hi I'm very curious, so I have a few questions Which hipbelt do you think is the best? Which product do you think can carry the heaviest? Comparing exo and mystery ranch, which hipbelt is better? Is the difference big? Is it subtle? When comparing the loadable weight of the two products, which one do you think can be loaded more heavily? Is the difference big or small? How many pounds do you personally feel that Mystery Ranch products can hold? Can the exo carry up to 250lbs? Is this possible? Thank you^^
Out of mystery ranch and exo I think the mystery ranch secured weight better. The exo lumbar pad was too soft for me. The exo could carry more than any one could physically carry but it might not feel comfortable. When considering pack you have to take your own abilities in account how much a pack can carry and how comfortable it would be. That being said the mystery ranch guide light frame with load secured high on load shelf is hard to beat
thank you! ^^
Your welcome let me know which you pick and how it works out for you
Thank you! Trying to decide between kenetrek, hoffman and meindl for wide toe box. I can only wear altra lone peaks duck shoes now.. They wouldn't be very good in the scree.. Think I want to go kenetrek mountain guide. Meindl and Hoffman boots look great as well. I'm just very limited on funds... so, "there can be only one". After seeing your review kenetrek sounds like the way.
Hey o’Neal Kenetrek are hard to beat, thank you for your time. Let me know what direction you go and how the boot works out for you.
You didn't give a price run down, that would be helpful
Well if your interested a little research would help. The cheapest is the rubber rain gear. Most others are roughly same price for setup
thanks for the review. What is your waste size? I'm looking at super down pants. 33" waist. Bigger thighs. Thought maybe I'd ge the large pants and tighten up the waist... what do you think?
Yeah if you have bigger legs (quads) up sizing would be best. Kuiu tends to run a bit small in pant leg area.
Can you pull a trigger when wearing the Yukon gloves?
For me personally I wouldn’t use the Yukon glove and shoot. It’s a bit thick. Note I have the older generation of Yukon glove.
Holy shit, the real meat of this video is those boot fitting tools. Those need a link.
Great stuff 👊🏻
Love my kenetrek
Nice bags 👍🏻
Great video! Can’t wait for the next one
Great video!!! This is the kind of video people are looking for!!!
I couldnt find your video on adjustment, can you link it? Having issues currently
Awesome video, your channel needs more exposure. Literally the only channel on YT that has done a comparison between branch’s unbiased. I can’t wait for the mountain stick full review
I have owned both. Kifaru will never fail but is heavier. The lumbar pad grips my back the best. The SG is lighter and way more streamline. But I have broken the hip belt sliders and buckle.
I have broken the hip belt slider as well. I think they resigned it recently. I do like the sky guide organization everything has its places. Kifaru is heavy but the material is heavily well worth the extra weight. I like the load lifters and shoulder straps. Waist belt hugs hips the best.
@@island-gear-review2359 I called them about it in 2019 and they said I was the first one to do that. But man, if I tighten it and flex my stomach I bet I could do it again
I loaded my pack at home for a goat hunt. Broke the slide lock just before leaving. Still used it. Packed out over 130 lbs with one belt web pull forward and backwards. It was a pain in the ass but worked
Loud noises…
Hello Nate This was one of the first videos I uploaded. It’s been a learning curve for sure. Hopefully the video was helpful. Thanks for the feed back.
Super helpful and great info. Thank bro
Just found your channel I am on the island as well . Good stuff man
Hey Warren thanks for watching . I’ll be working on videos for alpacka forager raft and hilliberg black label soule tent
What was the biggest item you could wear under the super down pro? What size rain gear did you wear over it? Debating buying the SDP in XL based on reviews (usually a large), but concerned it won't fit under my L Chugach jacket
Great video. Which would you pick out of the SG and the MR? Ive tried Kifaru and it didnt work for me. The most important thing for me is load carrying comfort. Appreciate any insight, thx
Thank you for your time happy hunting
Great review. Thank you.
