This was shot handheld on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K using my vintage CZJ 35mm and 20mm lenses, and then edited, stabilized and colored in DaVinci Resolve using Dehancer for a film emulation look. This was my first time grading in black and white with Dehancer (I used the Ilford HP5 Plus profile, which is probably my most used film stock ever) and I love the mood it creates.

I've been using Dehancer to color grade my personal work, and I love it. It's realistically film-like, intuitive, as simple or as complex as I choose to make it, and a gateway to learning color in DaVinci Resolve. I shoot mainly with my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, but you can use any video camera to create awesome looks in Dehancer. For me, getting a new tool in the toolbox every now an...

Tips on making your footages stabilized?
I try to hold the camera as still as possible, and then I use a small amount of stabilization in Resolve. My goal usually is to make the footage still look handheld, but just to remove the tiny jitters
Very nice!
Thanks! This was a fun one to shoot and put together!
Really nice work! Especially the black and white footage looks incredible. Are you happy with Dehancer?
Thanks! I'm a big fan of Dehancer. I love the colors I can get out of my footage with it, but like you said, the black and white might look even better. There are some cheaper alternatives but I don't regret buying it at all
Also, just watched your Prague video. I love that pocket OG 16mm look!

I appreciate that! I have plans for some new ones very soon
@@jasonapearlman I activated the bell and I am really looking forward for it to ring. 😉Have a nice sunday evening!
Good film, but I have to genuinely ask, why you don't use the gyro stabilization on Resolve? Is that not good enough compared to stabilization feature on Premiere? I thinking about getting a BMPCC 4K.. thank you!
I edited this in Premiere and I was just used to using warp stabilizer. For my more recent videos I've been editing in Resolve and trying the different stabilization there. Sometimes the gyro stabilization looks great, other times I think 'perspective' mode looks better. My goal is usually to just get rid of the tiny jitters-I still want it to look handheld, usually. You can always use an IS lens if you want more stabilization. I don't think it's necessary though, especially if you want to use smaller vintage lenses. It's still a fantastic camera, in my opinion. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
that was beautiful!
I appreciate it!!

It costs as much as an entire NLE application. And, I would argue, most home studio owners are not needing a 2 seat license. Sell a 1 seat. Make it more affordable. Unless you're a business and making money through that business, everyone else doesn't have much disposable income these days. Or put it on a significant sale once a year. Or for 48 hours. Something. Anything.
@@burkek1960 there are cheaper ways to get somewhat similar results, but those alternative workflows can be a pain, in my opinion. This is an excellent product that’s easy to use. Classic case of the good/fast/cheap (choose two) dilemma
Thank you for a fantastic review! Nice job! Please feel free to leave any questions about Dehancer in the commens and we will answer them.

This camera is still ahead of most, even in 2024. Great video and edit. Love the grade!
I sometimes get caught up in researching newer cameras, but the 4K is truly enough for everything I do. It's just great. Thanks for watching!
Great videos
thanks for watching!
Do you have any exposure tips? This is beautiful man! amazing work!
Thanks for watching! For exposure, I really just try not to clip my highlights. I keep false color as one of my toggle options, and I try to make sure faces aren't too dark. That's really it-I like a grainy image so I don't care if exposure is spot on or not, and the 4K's sensor hasn't really rendered any shot unusable for me yet
@@jasonapearlman Thank you man, love that you are free with your craft. I enjoy that a lot! Thank you for taking the time to teach me. All the best!
good but film would be somewhat softer, I guess🤔
how to do this bro? please 😭😭😭
Looks great. What profile did you use in Dehancer?
Hello, thanks for the content, could you share the link of your adapter (Carl zeiss jena to M4/3). I can't find it!
Hey, it's two adapters-a simple M42 to EF, and then an EF to M4/3 Speed Booster
Really well done! I love this.
Thanks so much!
Ah what beautiful stills and music choice The power of the 4K cannot be overstated
As far as i know, there is no Metabones with m42 Mount, so how did you get it mounted on it? Does your lens has some another mount instead m42?
M42 to EOS adapter on the lens! The speedbooster is EOS-m43. I use the Jenas on my old Canon 5d as well
LOVE those blooming highlights. I'm guessing we can thank the vintage Jena glass more than the mild diffusion for that.
thanks for watching!!
I would say if you went for that 1980'ish old style, little over exposed colors camera look, then good job :) Never been there, would like to go some day.
amazing colors buddy.. really loved the overall tone of the video <3 can you please share details on this particular color look . Thank you Love from India
Beautiful video! What framerate was this filmed at?
Thanks! 24fps
@@jasonapearlman Thanks for answering! Did you use Dehancer Pro or Lite version?

is this Blackmagic 4k shoot or arri cause this image is too soft having been trying to get good image like this
Stunning.
I appreciate it!
If using davinci resolve, what are your project settings and render settings. I upload my videos in 4k but it drops quality on RUclips and only plays at 720p and occasionally 1080 in certain clips
Beautiful work!
Thank you!
Perfect video. Tutorial color grading please
shes hot good job
Awesome video! How do you manage to be so table while shooting handheld? Did you have a lot of extra weight on the camera?
Thanks! No extra weight on the camera, just held it as still as possible and then ran pretty much every shot through warp stabilizer in premiere
Thanks for the info! @@jasonapearlman
Great one as well Jason!! Really love the colors here, they´re on point! I think I have to invest in Dehancer as well. I am always struggeling to emulate it by myself, sometimes it works, sometimes not, I mostly do it all in Final Cut, but I can never create it consistently. I think Dehancer helps a lot. If every video you make looks like this, then it is perfect! Hope you´ll grow quickly. Greetings from Germany, Peter.
Thanks Peter! Yeah, I tried for a long time to emulate film and Dehancer is like a cheat code. It’s easy to overdo it, but if you keep the effect subtle it looks great and it’s a lot of fun to play with. It can even make mundane shots more interesting, kind of like the experience of shooting on film
A dream to watch! Very well done!! So, I think you earned a new sub with it... 😉 keep it up! Never stop creating them!
I appreciate that! Currently in Spain, capturing some footage (and also just enjoying myself), so more videos to come in the near future
Looking forward to that! Enjoy Spain! @@jasonapearlman
