What a heartbreaking story, you told it so well and was so informative to listen too. Reminds me of the Tasmanian Tiger with the paralles of the last indivudal passing in a zoo like environment. So glad I came across your channel, I just love the whole theme behind it to preserve the memory of extinct animals. This really resonates with me becauese I've always had a sadness in my heart for those incredible species lost through Eearth's hitory and especially those in recent human times. The best thing we can do is live on their memory and legacy through content just like this. Looking forward to seeing your channel grow!

Japanese people had hunted Sea Lions(Gangchi) illegally in Dokdo. Japanese Empire took over the rights of Korea and according to 《韓日議定書》, stealing Dokdo to fight against Russia. Now, they're using their character to decorate Dokdo as their own territory. If Sea Lions were their friends, the whales are their best friends.

I am from Australia and sadly Martha’s story is not unique. I think you were wise not to describe Passenger pigeons, but talk about Martha’s life.

🥺 I'm glad you did this about Martha. I was at the Smithsonisn once and saw her. I would have thought there would have been a huge display talking about her, but it was just her looking faded, I guess from all the lights shown on her for a hundred years, and her name. I don't know if they even show her any more. I hope they do, it was a highlight of my going there. I keep hoping somehow, some way, that a flock of Passenger Pigeons will be discovered somewhere. Maybe they were blown off course to the Amazon forest and are happily eating tropical fruits and flying around? 🥹

I live in northeastern Oregon rural area there my neighbors respect and don't leave pets out at night they will lure dogs away and no more dog no one is losing mass amounts of stock of any kind leave them to do what wolves do in thirty years no hassle get a bad rap !

I first heard about this from the Rudyard Kipling story “the white seal” where Kotick the white seal seeks out the elusive sea cow to find where they hide for safety from being hunted.

I didn't even know what auks were until I recently read Robert Goodsir's diaries of one of his expeditions searching for his brother & crews of the Frankin Expedition. He wrote down both the names and scientific names of what animals he came across and it was very intriguin' to look up. Shame that they're gone.

Oh that last one was clearly a witch in disguise.

Out of all the recently extinct animals, the great auk is the one I am most bummed about.

It sounds like an ideal candidate for dextinction

I find it sad of how many animals that humans caused to go extinct. I wished that heartworms and other dangerous enteral parasites and several did and certain viruses could be one of them. I'm thinking it's only a matter a time before the Vaquita becomes an extinct species. I also love the Dire Dire Docks from Super Mario 64 as that music along with the file select music, the end credits music, the Bowser levels music, and the slide levels music are my favorite songs in Super Mario 64.
