10 years flying now for Emirates, never had any health issue, and I find the job to be the easiest job ever… I want people to understand both perspectives and that it is extremely individual if this job would be for someone or not. Also I have to point out if u’re someone who is prone to depression/anxiety, don’t even consider flying bcs it will just trigger it much more, I’ve seen it a lot amongst my colleagues.

BA is horrific too. 100% this is not a career. I joined for 3 years, Covid meant I got stuck for 5 before they unfairly dismissed me for sickness 😅. A month before I went back to do my Masters and was gonna quit anyway 😂. Tribunal will be fun. You’re a worthless number, doing a robotic, repetitive job - your mind starts to fade as constant jet lag, sickness and depression. Constantly feel your life is on hold for the sake of the airline. Easily 16-34 hour days, management looking for any excuse to fire you, inventing reasons. Living pay cheque to pay cheque to make rent, whilst airline shareholders doing nothing make billions off you. Saw my partner once a month 😅. My mental and physical health was horrible at the end. Finally off to do my dream job! 🎉 In summary - if you’re gonna do it, plan 2 years, solid 2 years. Do not deviate. HAVE AN EXIT PLAN BEFORE YOU JOIN. Go see the world, watch your back, save any money you can. Then keep going month to month. Absolutely no amount of money would ever make me go back.

I am so sorry for the awful experience you had towards the end, as well as the trauma you endured during that time. I've been through something similar with a European low-cost carrier, and it was such a challenging experience that I ended up having a mental breakdown. Mental health in aviation is often not talked about, and many people feel scared to speak about their struggles, suffering in silence when they shouldn’t have to. I am now a medical student, and like you, I have fond memories of my time as cabin crew. I truly wish you all the best on your healing journey. Thank you for having the courage to share your experience; it’s an important step toward fostering understanding and support for others who might be going through something similar.

Your generation wants to share everything but consider that any future employer from wherever and in an unknown field will have access to knowing your medical issues and how you handle issues. The airlines weren’t responsible during Covid but you mentioned a lot that can affect your future. Best wishes.

My mom said almost the same thing about becoming a cabin crew, “You could have done that out of high school.”. (Meaning- you have a university degree so why aren’t you pursuing something better!). My response was, “But, I wouldn’t be happy.”

Quite a drama…not sure if you watched too many movies or something but it seems like you made all this to yourself. I would have just quit already in April 2019 or tops after your break in November. The things that happened after that, you can blame yourself only for letting people do that to you.

I am a cabin crew, working for a major carrier, and I must say that being a cabin crew is NOT for everyone, it is NOT easy and you either love it or hate it. This is not only about going to exotic places and getting to fly, this is about service, is about passengers (the good and the bad), is about colleagues (the good and the bad), is about company policies (stupid and great ones), and overall everything else, it is about inflight SAFETY and not for you to take selfies in your uniform only. If you fly in a company which *actually cares* about you, then you will not stop flying EVER. It is addictive. Period. I would love for young newcomers to stop believing that Emirates, Qatar and Etihad are the real deal and to actually start pursuing realistic companies which do not pursue you for the slightest thing like these do. Supervisors have to be there for you and the flight performance, seniors are there for their team, and cabin crew are there for passengers safety mainly, not focus primarily in service. Stop falling for the uniforms and the looks, find the real places that actually care about their people.

First as ex Ek crew..you are completely mentally broken woman that should leave in 1st year.I left also late but was not so broken.I feel Sorry that you left it until so long but please takd rest and never fly again! Iam in boring non flying job but miss the lifestyle anyhow just that as you can imagine.Iam about 2years in ‘normal life’ and still dealing with a echoes of the flight attendant lifestyle..It hits hard once you leave but we have to.So many crew took their lives I dont understand why to leave it until this moment mind you I flown for 9 years.Never saw therapist never had meds Iam just strong individual but damn these jobs arr brutal!
