how the actual fuck is everything you make so accurate
Practice and patience! 😀
@@Modul8online no but like i just finished up your swing king videos and like how do you even know where to start with that stuff? how'd you figure out what the exact parameters were? it's an easy but still a very specific sound
good work man keep it up
Thank you!, Let me know if you have any new song suggestions 😀
mate this video was soooooo quality. keep doing your thing. thank you!!
Thank you!
the best video
I didn't update for a while till the new computer could be afforded, so thanks for the clarity. Logic is beautiful. Thank you
Glad you think so! 😀
750 bucks😂
That's for Ableton 12, you don't have to pay for each 12 update, like this 12.1 update. It's true though its one of the most expensive DAWs but it comes with a lot of content and has some of the best synths, samplers and audio effects. Also there student discount is around 50%!
Dude hell yes thank uou
such a fire remake man
Thank you!
Colour curve is wicked too. Can’t wait for the update cause I opted for Beta but I’m so used to buying the normal version I didn’t bother
I do welcome the new drum sampler. Can increase the knock on a kick without extra plugins. That’s a plus
I agree, if it means I don't have to add audio effects when i'm creating a track that's a big plus for the songwriting process and my CPU too.
man! straight to the point! thank you!
lmaooooo. if you saw my comment before i deleted it, no you didn’t 😂 note to self: watch videos for longer before commenting tips
Don't worry you're note the first 😂
my man youve found a great balance between explaining things in depth while at the same time not yapping your fucking brain off. very concise and to the point.
Thank you! My many years of teaching students has helped find that sweet spot..... I do also edit out some of the waffle though 😂
Can't believe I spent £200 on Antares Harmony Engine and Autotune last year when I could have upgraded to Ableton 12 and got them as a stock plug in for less money 😭😭😭
Ah I know!!! I remember talking about it in one of our lessons, nothing even came close to Harmony Engine and what it could do at the time. That being said if you used harmony engine and autotune in your tracks then it was worth it, Auto Shift isn't actually fully released yet too so just think positive things 😂 And I've not fully compared the two yet, I know Harmony engine has some features auto shift doesn't like the individual formant tuning, panning etc. Plus you also got Autotune in that price, which might sound better than auto shift!
The harmony shift tool is a Great improvement. I’m going to use that so much. A lot of singers I’ve come across cannot harmonise themselves and don’t have a budget for female BVS 🎉
I dont understand why they won't make a simple pitch and format plugin like the one thats next to the warping modes. i know there's shifter, but it doesn't seem to do the exact same thing. This would be a huge time saver for me.
I think this auto shift will be handy for doing simple shifting and a lot better than shifter for sure. It will be better as it has that global scale feature and scale transposition too but I do know what you mean.
I might be in the minority, but I've never understood why you would use drum rack. Isn't it super awkward for mixing and plug-in use on individual drums? I prefer having a track per drum sample, for mixing and to have individual MIDI clips as well. I even use multiple instances of Kontakt (for Modern Drummer etc) to have individual drums isolated to separate tracks. I'm looking forward to this Drum Sampler, although I'm not sure which benefits it'll really have over Simpler. Just hope you can use it outside of a Drum Rack, too.
You can have individual effects on individual sounds in drum rack you just need to look in the session view and expand the drum rack, it also means they’re all grouped together already, which is nice. You can also have sends and returns too, they’re just located in the chains view of the drum rack. Having all your midi in one clip can be easier as you can easily line up drum hits between instruments and applying swing using the grooves are super easy in one clip too. Also using multiple kontakts on different tracks will increase your CPU as you have multiple plugins running at once, you can use kontakt in multichannel mode to separate each sound into an audio track in Ableton but it’s a bit of a hassle setting it up to be fair Oh you can use drum sampler just as an instrument outside of drum rack just like simpler though. 😁
I use drum rack mainly in that way but as long as it’s efficient for you at the end of the day then stick with it 😁
What track is playing in the intro?
One of my songs, just an idea 😁
Probably the ugliest DAW in existence
It's not the most glamorous DAW i agree, but at least the developers can spend more time on making the plugins sound good 😀
@@Modul8online yes very uninviting at least for me, but I know that its popularity is unquestionable
@@EBMZEQUENZER what DAW do you have?
@@Modul8online FL junky for life 🍻
@@EBMZEQUENZER FL is very good, the fact your only have to buy it once it a lot better than Ableton but from what I can tell it does lack in some areas like synthesisers and some audio effects, but they are remedying this with the latest update bringing in that new vintage analog synthesiser. I'll have to give it a try.
There is a lot of aliasing and fold back distortion in this plugin. Tube processing is an even harmonic. You should not see any third order. Processing like this desperately needs oversampling, it's kind of remarkable the developers did not add that. If you're using AI and all these tricks to analyze analog saturation characteristics how can you not account for aliasing and fold back distortion in the final digital signal. You should remake this video at 192K. I bet your analyzers look different.
Yes there are some aliasing problems for sure it would have been nice to have an oversampling option. I'm not sure about the tube processing though, Tube amplifiers emphasise even harmonics but it doesn't mean they don't add odd harmonics and from looking around online most still create odd harmonics. Even with these issues though it still sounds really good, which is all that matters.
@@Modul8online Could you please run the test again at 192K? I have an Intel Mac so I can't use the plug-in to test, or I would make my own video. lol
Imagine being a producer that died 5 years ago. And have to miss these amazing new festures
A bit dark but true I guess 😂
What happened to the sidechain feature on the limiter?
maybe you confused it with the compressor, limiter never had a sidechain feature
I don't think there's ever been a sidechain feature in the stock limiter, unless i've missed something?
@@igorglsv ah you are correct
They should have called the Drum Sampler 'Simplest' instead
YES!! How did they miss that.
I can't believe there's no way to have it open your most recent project upon launch and it always loads a brand new set. Upon launch it should ask you what you'd like to open.
That would be a good feature in some ways, but if it's a big project that takes a long time to open it could be problematic I guess, especially if you have other applications running it could potentially cause crashes.
@@Modul8online I started in Logic Pro. I guess I'm talking about the feature it has. Still love Live 12.1 over Logic and FL. I'm very happy I finally bought it last Oct in time to get the free update to 12. Live's workflow is superior.
I'm trying to understand the New automatic groove. I don't get it. So do I still have to apply it? What does it mean Automatic cause I'm not seeing this. I still had to apply the groove no different than the old way. Can you or anybody help me understand? I'm beta testing.
So when you add a groove into the groove pool, there's a small yellow activation button next to it. This will make this the default groove for the project. Any clips created after doing this will automatically have the groove applied. It's useful if you create a drum beat a the start with a groove because everything you create after that will already have that groove applied as long as you create a new empty clip i believe. Hope that helps. 😀
@@Modul8online Oh ok I see. Thank you so much. Greatly appreciated.
That's very nice, thanks for sharing the breakdown! 👏👏
Part 2 coming next week 😁
@@Modul8online I'll wait for the next part!
I’m pretty sure you can set the default device for drum rack in general, not just individual pads. I can’t remember exactly how to do it because I did it quite a while ago but it’s standard functionality, no weird work arounds.
Comment your favourite new feature below and make sure to watch the full video on our channel ❤
Your tutorials help so much thank you so so much
Glad you like them and thanks for supporting the channel 😀
Great breakdown. The chords/bass section reminded me of the Dave Spoon remix of Tyken - Every Word. Very similar vibe IMO.
Great tutorial mate, thank you. Can you say a bit about what the LFO tool does?
The LFO tool is used for a sidechain compression effect, it basically lowers the volume of one sound when another plays, for example when the kick drum plays the LFO tool lowers the volume of the bass and then brings it back up when the kick drum isn't playing, this leads to a cleaner sounding mix as they don't both play on top of each other causing mess. You can use a regular compressor plugin for this but LFO tool, Kickstart 2 and others are better as they provide more control over the ducking process.
Need that preset!
The preset and samples are in the long videos on the channel, Pt.2 😁
Why are you trying to filter a sine wave? It only has one frequency. All you'll be doing is changing the volume of it.
I did this say in the video when showing off the bypass below feature, there is a better example later in the video at 12:44
@@Modul8online Yes maybe so, but wouldn't the example have been clearer with, say, a square wave? You CAN do retakes when you make videos :)
@@aronhidman1 Yes true haha, I'd always planned on having the drums as the main example in the video as to me it's one of the simplest way to understand how that bypass below feature works as distorting a brighter waveform wouldn't have as clear an effect because the waveform already contains a lot of harmonics if that makes sense. 😀Thanks for the feedback though as I didn't think about it when recording 👏
Watch the full tutorial to see how to create the same processing in other DAWs 😀
really really helpfull - thanks
Glad it was helpful!😁
Man, your knowledge of sound design and production is out of this world! I'm always amazed when people can recreate tracks/sounds that are spot on. lots of gems in here and the first part 🙏
Thankyou!, about to record another breakdown for next week so make sure to subscribe 😀
@@Modul8online Great! Already subbed yesterday! Haven't produced any tracks in a long while, but I started learning Ableton recently after more than a decade of working with FL studio. Takes some time to adjust but I'm starting to get the hang of the basics. The stock plugins are excellent in Ableton!
@@Pazaluz Good to hear you're getting back into it, hopefully Ableton is working well for you as it's probably my favourite DAW for electronic music! We do offer private online 121 sessions if you'd be interested in learning how to master Ableton focusing around your genre of choice and your goals, drop me a message on instagram or you can contact me using this link: modul8online.com/contact/ and I can create a custom lesson plan for you if you're interested. No worries if not though and thanks for supporting the channel, if you finish a track or have an idea send it over and I can give some feedback 😀
@@Modul8online Sounds good! I'll keep an eye on the channel and the website. Currently just planning to produce more reguraly and learn. I might look into private lessons later when i have a more concrete goals ^^
@@Pazaluz Yes! Consistency is the key to getting better, making one 4 bar loop a day is something i've done in the past to improve my songwriting!
A useful tip when creating custom wavetables in Serum! 💎
Honestly, I'm not sure if I'd know the difference between this and a typical tube overdrive, but it seems a little more dummy-proof.
In the full review on the channel I compare it to some other 3rd party plugins like Fab Filter Saturn and Soundtoys Decapitator and it sounds pretty similar to their "tube distortion" settings and they are two of the best distortions out there. I also analyse the way it shapes a sine wave and the harmonics it creates and it does have some complex processing going on unlike most simple wave shapers and distortions. But I do also agree that the differences are very subtle when compared to other plugins, it's just great that it comes for free with Logic.
Let me know what other good convolution plugins are out there 🎉
ur a legend
Great video brother, appreciate you
Thank you!
Auto gain? I get a change in volume.
It's not exactly perfect auto gain no, but increasing the drive increases the input level into the distortion and at the same time it decreases the output level too (not visually) so the overall volume stays roughly the same when changing the drive. It helps because you can actually hear when the waveform is being distorted instead of hearing the volume increasing and potentially speakers, headphones or other plugins distorting because of the volume change but i'd always double check the volume before and after and correct with the level out too.
legend earn't a sub
that LFO on the level after all the effects in serum to accentuate the movement of the bass is a huge pro tip idk why i never thought of that
Thankyou, it's extremely useful when you heavily distort or compress your sounds as those processes squash and remove that movement, it can work really well using an envelope too to add some more punch to a sound as well!
I love you ❤ thanks 🙏
Let me know what other topics you’d like me to cover! 🎉
Another banger as usual. Reckon u could add Sammys counting remix to the list?
Thankyou, added it to the list but there are a few other Sammy tracks above it. 😀
Great tutorial once again! 👏
Sorry for the pixelation throughout the video, it was an OBS issue when recording but has been fixed now! 🤖 Check the description for the download link. 💎 Let me know what track you'd like to see analysed! 😀
Zup, I enjoy your videos a lot, as they are very clear and educational. Is there any chance you could analyze the track "Moonlight" - Sammy Virji? Thanks for the free content, I hope you will gain more popularity.
@@KhanKMusic thank you! I’ll add it to the list but it might not be for a while, thanks for the suggestions 😁
i thought i needed to know music theory very well to me make this type of music and then came across this tutorial. ahaha not saying its not an advantage to know the theory of things but the good oi trust ears again hit me. 🤣 its really in the sound design and knowing the harmonic series i guess. Bass music is an art that i need to deeply understand!!!
Knowing the basics of Music theory is a pretty essential skill to have not just for writing chords, bass etc but for matching samples and remixes too and it's easier than you'd think. But that being said learning music theory can sometimes hinder your creativity as you won't be as adventurous and use your ears to write music and many tracks just like this one don't fit in a conventional key so knowing music theory won't necessarily help. Keep practicing and you'll get there!
I was hoping ChromaGlow was something akin to Waves NLS, or Studio One’s mixFX engines, vs a basic insert effect. That said, if it doesn’t oversample and is introducing digital Aliasing, guess it doesn’t matter because I’m not using it lol.
I doubt Logic would add one of those multichannel summing type plugins as the effect is probably too subtle and complicated to use for most users. Not having oversampling isn't the end of the world though and I still think it sounds really good especially for a stock plugin but there are some cleaner option out there for sure.
