    Stainless steel and copper will produce galvanic corrosion. Plastic connectors are the correct choice when putting together one of these if stainless steel is not available. Other than that, if it meets your needs, this is a fantastic thing!

    Hi, looking nice so far. First time i see a American how build a wall without Plywood. Shall you use 2x2 horizontal ( for stabilisation and not spending money on plywood on the outside, easy to make wiring in 2x2 without holes in all wall frames, easy to make a ventilated wall) on the outside for insulation (no cold bridge in the wall) and then Tyvek and of curse no plywood (Plywood can not breathe bec the glue inside ( Tyvel breathe better than plywood) and have no function)?

  • @dhgifts
    @dhgifts 2 месяца назад

    I do not comprehend the layout stick at all. Using it You will be off every stud by 3/4 of an inch if You mark it using it. Starting from the outside you will be off 3/4 every time.

    • @OffGridOnTheLand
      @OffGridOnTheLand 2 месяца назад

      You have to hold the stick back 3/4in for the first stud then mark the rest of the studs from that line for shear walls. I was confused by it too at first but it makes sense once you use it.

    I maybe wrong but Colorado had the same rules as far as 2 Jackstuds per side of windows and doors. They were supposed to be Jacks which are continous from the header to the bottom plate. Some of Your windows You turned the 2nd Jack into cripples and are not continous.

    • @OffGridOnTheLand
      @OffGridOnTheLand 2 месяца назад

      Thanks for pointing that out. The 2015 IRC doesn’t specify how to do two jacks, it makes sense to make them both continuous. I could be incorrect here, but I believe the requirement for two jacks was introduced in the 2015 IRC, prior to that there was no requirement for two jack studs in standard sized windows and doors. Millions of homes in this area have been built with just one jack on either side and are still standing so I’m not overly concerned about it.

    I hope you'll be able to get a roof over your heads before snowfall. Insulated walls and a heating source (fireplace, masonry heater, etc) would be golden too. One step at a time, I suppose.

  • @buffdaddymike8534
    @buffdaddymike8534 2 месяца назад

    Check with your building inspector you may not be able to build the headers with an open cavity. If they want 2 jacks, they might want that header the full thickness.

    • @OffGridOnTheLand
      @OffGridOnTheLand 2 месяца назад

      We don’t have a building inspector for our area. I went by the 2015 IRC header span chart which calls for 2 2x’s based on the header span and lists the number of jacks needed. These types of headers are typically for this region so they can be insulated on the inside with foam board.

    I've had a bit of building experience, so i believe I'll throw in 2 cents worth of advice. No one wants to listen to it, and it is an expense, but my advice is to get a small generator (quiet Honda maybe?), a framing nail gun, and a circular saw. Unless you really want to do everything by hand. There - two cents is cheap - and YT advice is too. Good luck on your build. I subscribed so I can follow along. Actually doing it instead of just talking it is a lot tougher. You're doing a good job. 🙉🙈🙊

  • @dallasarnold8615

    OMG, 5 days and no walls vertical. You guys really need to invest in heavier hammers or jump up to framing nail gun. The double top plate should go on later, as the double plate is supposed to overlap onto adjoining walls. So, now you are going to have to cut gaps in the double plate as you place interior walls so that those double plates overlap the exterior wall, tying them to each other. My father and I alone built my 3500 sq. ft. house. We did all the work except the poured concrete walls for the full basement, and the HVAC. It took us 10 1/2 months from the day I cut the first tree to the day my wife, son and I moved in. That was with us working in the afternoons after I got off from my full time job, plus all weekends as weather permitted. We did all the clearing, grading, poured the footings and driveway, installed all the plumbing, electrical, cabinets, even built a curved wrought iron stair, roofing, septic tank and drain field, drywall, flooring, and 43 windows and 9 exterior doors. So, you guys really need to step up your game.

    • @OffGridOnTheLand
      @OffGridOnTheLand 2 месяца назад

      That’s a quick turnaround to build an entire house! Did you have building experience? We are still very green and want to ensure we are doing things correctly. Learning while doing takes a lot more time.

    • @dallasarnold8615
      @dallasarnold8615 2 месяца назад

      @@OffGridOnTheLand Indeed, yes. Both my father and I had experience in construction. I was 30 at the time and my father was 60. But there was a good bit of it we had to work on the learning curve as well. Neither of us had ever done stucco ( old fashion type, not EFIS ). Neither of us had ever built curved stairs or built a fireplace/chimney. I am not saying this to brag. I am just saying you guys need to do some strong thinking on your methods. It is hard to keep your spirit up when the work takes a long time to achieve even the smaller goals. I strongly commend you for jumping in on this project and wish you best of luck. I am serious about a bigger hammer. The one in the video looks like a 16 oz. You should be using at least a 20 oz or a 24 oz for rough framing. Less strokes required and therefore less fatigue. Note buffdaddymike comment about your headers. I have never seen anybody do headers like yours. Not to say it is wrong, it just seems to me that it is not as strong that way.

They have these doorway screens that have a magnetic "zipper" you just push it open and it reattaches itself.
