Good reviews, citizen. I am a Rye man out of personal taste (as opposed to saying it is objectively superior) and I most like them for Manhattans or Old Fashioneds; I pay taxes, I vote and I have rights. You are spot on with the Ezra - for the money it is excellent but it is ultimately limited by the objective for which it was made and a high proportion of non-rye in the mash. I go with the WT 101 Rye, as well as Michters, Sazerac and a few others. I enjoy JD's Bourbons for what they are, so I will look out for the rye.
The 8 is trash. Easily my least favorite bourbon....except maybe leipers fork. I'll need to try the 12.
Talisker 10 was the reason I started single malt whiskies journey a long time ago. In the meantime,I tried many much more expensive whiskies, but Talisker 10 will always be one of my favourites.
I've come here because I'm doing a side by side tasting right now. In sgort, the Ardbeg is a little bit better but both are fine choices for entry level quality whisky.
Talisker for me because it has a bit more complexity.
Coopers mark is a cooking burbon , chefs use it in burbon chicken and bbq sauce. If your enjoying a burbon neat my suggestion is wellers now that is burbon , cooper aslo makes maple flavor if you prefer a maple style sauce
Fabulous videos with terrific info and reviews! I wish you were still doing reviews! Cheers!
Restarted yesterday. Thanks for the encouragement.
Tend to agree. Both are surprisingly good. I can see either winning by me depending on the day.
Both very good considering the cost. I lean a bit towards beam as little more complex from the extra aging. Turkey does cost a bit less and it does use non gmo corn. I would say it's a toss up due to those factors. Really can't go wrong with either. Both top of their class. I've had 101 that seemed little smoother than other bottles of 101. Kinda strange
Sounds as if you are a bit Butt-Hurt that Beam won that award...
It's strange, where I live (Hungary) the Ardbeg 10 is ~$70 and the Talisker 10 is ~$45. OK, different market and 2 years passed by since the video made, but still... Is it the same at the US nowadays?
I used to drink Beams choice with the green label in the nineties. A step up from white label back then . Turkey always had a bit of a bite and was never my first choice .
Turkey has a high rye (more rye) mashbill, just for yr information. This may account for your preference.
Jim Beam Black 🥃
This never should have happened. I mean, you wouldn't compare a Picasso with a finger painting by a kindergartner. WT 101 is so far above Jim Beam.
I bought the Buchanan's tonight. The owner told me that he could barely keep the on the shelves. I bought the one bottle, then went to go get some food. After thinking about it further, I went back and bought the second bottle for my uncle who is very into scotch. I tasted the Buchanan's as I watched this, and I've got to say; this just might be the smoothest scotch that I've ever had. I'm enjoying it. Will update when I deliver the bottle to my uncle.
Why leave out JWB?
Talisker 10 for me. Much more robust, lingering sweet smoke and peat. Ardbeg is a good thing but not even nearly in the race.
Not a fan of Cooper's Mark at all. Luckily, it's part of ABCFWS Sourced & Certified collection, so I can take it back for an exchange or balance toward a different bottle. At this general price point, I'd go for Buffalo Trace (still $25 here), Turkey 101 or Old Forester 100 every time. Though I'm almost prepared to just fill my shelf with Russell's Reserve SiB. Price to enjoyment is just top notch for me. I enjoy a sip of ginger ale after letting the bourbon finish on my palette about 30s. I feel it opens up a whole second batch of flavors.
I like Irish uisce beatha but so far the Albanach ones I find them better. But why? I wonder why Scottish fuisce taste better.
In California I paid.... Ezra brooks ($11.99) Jack Daniels ($16.99) Wild turkey ($14.99) All of these are pretty smooth and will do the job lol I mix them all with Coke and it’s super smooth. Good review/video dude.
This man is wise.
Excellent choice. Now, I have been on to Jim Beam products for the last 6 months or so. Bought a handle of the Black for the holidays and took me close to a month to finish it. I relished every bit of it! Wild Turkey? Well I hadn't touched it not once since I was in the Marine Corps way back in '88 when I had a rough night with it. Needless to say, I was not a Bourbon fan back then. Just drinking it to drink. Anyways, I picked up a fifth of it today ... why? because my local store only had Jim Beam Black in pint size. Go figure. Anyways, I figured it would be a good time to give it a shot since I've only gotten back into Bourbon enjoyment really in the last year. My discovery? Well, I have to go with the Wild Turkey 101. I normally have a swig when I pour for a glass of a Diet Pepsi and my Bourbon of choice -- yes an odd mixer but I prefer no sugar and a good Diet Pepsi is sweeter tasting than any other drink including those with actual ... sugar. It was magnificent! And with adding my mixer, I found it was nicer than with Jim Beam Black (God forgive me). Very strong as you say. That part is true. It does clear the sinuses a bit but has a nice caramel taste up front and a little bit of pepper on the end. Not unlike JBB but a little sweeter and a little smoother (not by much, I can assure you!). So, tonight, I find Wild Turkey 101 a nice place on my mantle. At least right now. Anyways, this weekend I may find something truer.
best one ive seen glad i saw this
You know it is a Kentucky bourbon. Must be an expert.
I don’t understand why you didn’t select a 100 proof Old Forester to up against the 100 proof Old Tub to make it more equal…you know it is available, then tast it blind so that you aren’t swayed one way or the other because of the label.
Nice comparison. I really wanna try the Jack Daniel's Rye ! The no 4 ''alligator char'' (same used with the 101) is a char level that leaves the interior of the barrel looking like alligator skin and the small layer or charcoal inside presumedly naturally filters the whiskey as it ages.. that's what I know about it ;)
I have a bottle of Old Forester 86 and I agree with you, it’s good for the price, has enough kick to it to make good cocktails. Haven’t had the Old Tub yet but looks like a decent bourbon also.
Good reviewer. Not a lot of fun but good.
Chivas is my favourite but happy you guys ousted it. I’d love to try these two. White label is decent for sure.
I guess "Bilack Label" is your favorite ❣
Coopers you can’t beat for what you pay for it! A really smooth aftertaste for sure. It’s no Knob Creek but a very tasty whiskey
Wow...I am gonna have to try the Black Beam again...it has been awhile. Great show!
Comparing Talisker to Johnny Black? Jesus wept.
Bro, please get some nice glasses for that whisky, also when you compare whisky, please use the same type of glass as it does affect the taste and smell. Anyway, I like both, but my vote is for Talisker. It's one of my absolute favourites. In Poland, Talisker is about 25% cheaper.
I am not an expert in evaluating bourbons but my Father was an he was the distiller of Four Roses in that era. Remember as a child going with him to the Four Roses Distillery to check on things.
Ardbeg 10yo by far is the best & my favourite. Unchillfiltered & natural colour.
I'm a fan of Jack and not sure if your review is biased because your wearing a Jack Daniels shirt. Not a choice shirt for a review.
Yeah, someone had given me the shirt. I can see how it could seem biased but I’m not usually a Jack Drinker. But the Rye was definitely a good surprise.
@@worldwarwhiskey6491 I will be trying Jack Rye as I’m starting to open to Rye. I did try Clyde May Rye and that was good. Rye is an acquired taste that has started to grow on me.
Good thumbnail.
I think the Ezra is just MGP distillery. it should be under 20 but like everything else keeps going up.
Talisker for me as you can get it cheaper than Arberg but both great
Jim Beam white label a splash of coke and get this party started.
What is a $3,000 Bourbon?
Blantons but it ain't that expensive
Another note to add is that Wild Turkey uses non-GMO corn only, and Jim Beam now uses GMO corn. This may sound like an unimportant note but for those who care just wanted to mention it. Also I'd like to add that most GMO corn is engineered to have more sugar than regular natural varieties, and this may mean the company uses less corn to achieve the same alcohol content, thus leading to a less "corny" flavour. Many GMO bourbons are still sweet, but it's more of a clean sugary taste rather than a sweet corn bread taste, just something I personally noticed.
I'm not all GMO vs Non-GMO but I think it's a valid consideration. Thanks for bringing it up, Josh!
Talisker for my.... and in Puerto Rico 50$ dólares 👍👍👍👍👍🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃
All bourbons are whiskeys not all whiskeys are bourbons
Ho about some Early Times
not sure but JD uses the charcoal filtering on their rye or not?
Yeah, they do the sugar maple charcoal filtering.
you drink WT101 and then the other JB taste like watered down bourbon.
haha those claims of world best anything is typically found on some low end distillery
Guinness Extra Stout is the best beer in the world.
When it comes to "balance" you might actually be right, maybe you meant it as a joke but I find Guinness beers are astonishingly well balanced between sweet, malty, and bitter. But in terms of actual "best" obviously that is in the eye of the beholder/taster haha.
I like Newcastle. But the old recipe not the new stuff
