TRR 181 Energy transfers in Atmosphere and Ocean
Добавлен 17 окт 2016
Investigating the Atmosphere and Ocean is a complex task that needs a combined effort of different scientific fields. Our project brings together oceanographers, meteorologists and mathematicians to tackle the task of improving climate models. For more information visit our website: www.trr-energytransfers.de!

TRR 181 Art&Science: Film project "Offshore"© 2024 by designer Radoš Vujaklija
This video was presented in an exhibition at Zollo offspace, in Hammerbrook, Hamburg. The technique the designer Radoš Vujaklija used to organize the content of the video is called “carding” and it is typically used by scriptwriters. To put it simply, pieces of a story and ideas are layed out in cards, to be then reordered in different sequences until an outline of a story emerges that is in the spirit of what the artist wants to express.
The video shown here here presents the outlines of the story concept, and tries to convey a taste of the atmosphere of the imaginative world in which the artist's future films will be set. The exhibition was accompanied by a music playlist that served as ...

TRR181 Seminar: "Effects of improved tidal mixing in NEMO ocean model", by Casimir de Lavergne
Просмотров 1173 месяца назад
"Effects of improved tidal mixing in NEMO one-degree global ocean model", by Casimir de Lavergne (LOCEAN, Paris, France) Abstract Internal tides power much of the observed small-scale turbulence in the ocean interior. However, few models include a comprehensive and energy-constrained parameterization of mixing by internal tides. Here we present the impacts of three different tidal mixing scheme...

A summary of the main results of M7 phase 2" by Dr. Roland Welter (Universität Hamburg) Abstract: During phase 2, the M7 group has been investigating aspects of turbulence in geophysical flows. A major focus has been on the heat transport induced by turbulent convection, often modeled via paramete...

This video shows the recording of the theatre play "Die weiße Wand" (engl.: "The white Wall"), which was developed by director Woody Mues together with author Peter Thiers and TRR member Luby Bing aka Bing-ying Lu from the University of Bremen. The performance took place on April 23, 2022, in the 'Nachtasyl' theatre bar at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. It was an evening of storytelling. About ...
TRR181 Seminar Series: "The effect of wind on overturning wave...", by Prof. Dr. Falk Feddersen

October 19, 2023 "The effect of wind on overturning wave shape - Field scale observations and modeling" by Prof. Dr. Falk Feddersen (Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego) Abstract: The shape of depth-limited breaking-wave overturns is important for turbulence injection, bubble entrainment and sediment suspension. Wave overturns can be large or small relative to wave height and have...

September 7, 2023 "Inertia-gravity-wave diffusion by geostrophic turbulence: the role of time dependence and stratification change" by Michael Cox (University of Edinburgh) Abstract: Inertia-gravity waves play a crucial role in ocean mixing. It has become increasingly clear that the distribution of IGW energy in spectral space is controlled by their interactions with the turbulent balanced flow...
TRR181 Seminar Series: "Topographically generated internal waves as a response...", by Ashley Barnes

July 27, 2023 "Topographically generated internal waves as a response to surface wind forcing" by Ashley Barnes (Australian National University) Abstract: Two of the most significant sources of internal waves in the ocean are surface winds, and oscillatory flow across topography due to the tides. Bridging these two mechanisms, we propose that wind induced oscillations to sea surface and isopycn...

July 6, 2023 "A deep learning approach to extract internal tides scattered by geostrophic turbulence" by Han Wang (University of Edinburgh) Abstract: Internal tides (ITs) are inertia-gravity waves generated by large-scale oceanic tidal currents flowing over topography, important to oceanographers due to their roles in problems such as deep/upper ocean mixing. Conventionally, for altimetric obse...

June 8, 2023 "Derivation and application of a local diahaline Water Mass Transformation framework to the Baltic Sea" by Erika Henell (Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde) Abstract: In this talk I present new insights into the Baltic Sea overturning circulation. An isohaline water mass transformation framework is applied that quantifies and decomposes the diahaline exchange flow...
"Climate science born in HH" Seminar Series, Season 2, Seminar 3 by Robert Sausen

Seminar "Anomaly coupling in climate modelling" by Robert Sausen on April 18, 2023 Abstract: When you couple atmosphere and ocean models, both tuned to the observed quasi-equilibrium, the coupled model usually exhibits a drift towards a new quasi-equilibrium. This might impact the climate response of the climate systems to external perturbations such as anthropogenic forcings. In order to overc...

Seminar "How can you be sure that your statistical model is correct ? Using climate simulations and pseudo-proxies as a virtual laboratory" by Eduardo Zorita on April 25, 2023 Abstract: Statistical models are ubiquitous in climate research, for instance, to interpret large data sets or to set up data-driven prediction schemes. One prominent area in which statistical models are necessary is the ...

Seminar "Incorporating Carbon into Climate Models" by Martin Heimann on April 11, 2023 Abstract: The global carbon cycle represents an interesting component in the Earth System. In the atmosphere it is reflected in carbon dioxide and methane, both important greenhouse gases and thus affecting the terrestrial climate. On the other hand, the sources and sinks of these gases are controlled to some...

super Video, danke!
Impressive! I understand all the words but ….. good to hear your voice!
amazing!
What is the brand of dispensors used for the DO reagents? Regards retired hydrochemist CSIRO.
Thank you
The only good video about internal waves.
Give me a computer and I'll give you the wrong answer faster, and to more decimal places. Heat does not travel through the gas phase as radiation (see Siddles, Wilson & Simpson, Chemical Physics, 1994) and heat does not move from the condensed matter phase to the gas phase as radiation, see the Pirani gauge. Don't make models, go and learn some physics.
👏👏👏
thank you so much
I love this youitube please upload atmospheric wave
I appreciate your help please upload Equatorial wave
please upload Equatorial wave
Didn't explain how Eddies form at all.
The one piece is real.
Amazing Thank you 🙂❤💚👏👍👍👍👍👍
تصدق أن هذا مذكور قبل ١٤٠٠ عام
Thanks for your videos!!!
So nice!

Wonderfully done ✅ 🙌🏼 thank you!
sound while the moment of page is very disturbing, by the way, well explained!
This is weird as hell to hear when your name is eddie but thanks for the educational video.
Danke für das Video :)
Interesting!
❤❤❤
I'm still confused.
hahahh, that is what I wana to say
Inappropriate title.
Danke 🙏🏻
Gern geschehen. :)
Klasse. Schön einfach erklärt und nachvollziehbar. Endlich gibt's das mal auf deutsch. Hättet ihr Lust, ein Video über Western intensification zu machen?
Great :)) Love it!
Thank you!
Beautifully done. Simple, clean and to the point.
Thank you! That was only possible because of our great colleagues from Explainity!
