I play bass as eMeLectric and other projects. I also make weird videos, and've also put some old rare recordings on RUclips.

Weather Report '73: Boogie Woogie Waltz Part 2
Просмотров 18 тыс.15 лет назад
This recording is (apparently) from August 24th, 1973, Chateauvallon. The main point of interest here is the band's drummer on this gig - Greg Errico of Sly & The Family Stone fame. According to Zawinul (as quoted in Brian Glasser's book), Errico "was the finest 3/4 drummer the band ever had". Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Miroslav Vitous and Don Um Romao complete the lineup.

Weather Report 1974: Miroslav's Tune
Amazing tune, I always used to play Miroslav's tune "Will" from Sweetnighter. It's a classic.
Since I was the first one to listen to it, I’ll leave a review. I liked it a lot, good base.

🤩
We miss you Jaco, but we got the music!
WHAT!! Very cool. This one did not make to the MT album, huh?
very In a Silent Way period-ish! love it!
I'm assuming this piece was assigned a 'generic' title due to it never being 'officially' named? It's like Weather Report with a string-section!!!
Wild!!! Far out!!! Groove!!! Out of this World.
weather report for me, filled the gap between tv and everthing else...get off facebook!
Hot biscuits
Miroslav is so far ahead of his time
Agree this is fucking great
🎉 beautiful🎉
ya'll wanna know where smooth jazz come from listen up
How did this not get released? It would’ve tied well in with those who wanted to categorize Weather Report as a “progressive jazz” outfit.
2:22 they land on the same thing
Infinite search and this album are better than any Weather report output IMO
Unbelievable couldn't be any better sounds as good as 35 yrs ago.
I can't believe I'm hearing this for the first time today. Seems a good tune to represent the bridge from Vitous-era Weather Report to the funkier sounding Weather Report that would be coming soon via Alphonso Johnson. I may be in the minority, but I love the low electric bass notes Vitous implements on tunes like this. And some killer drums licks here as well. Wow. This did not deserve to be relegated to a Japanese-only release obscurity. Columbia has been pretty good releasing live concert material but I imagine there are many more studio tracks and alternate studio tracks that have not seen the light of day. Would like to hear more of them.
when he goes into the high and the mighty its so euphoric
1. The Sound of Music 2. Stella by Starlight 3. The High and the Mighty 4. If You Could See Me Now
Weather Report's ideal bassists met on the rear sleeve of this album. Miroslav's elusive basslines owing more to free improvisation than the Jazz Fusion strand of Jazz the band was heading in. No note he played ever simply part of bridging riffs, he brought more space to the band's compositions enabling a kind of floating quality others could expand into. Second Sunday in August and American Tango among his most brilliant contributions. I like this piece too.
What a spectacular discovery!!! Millions of thanks.

Having enjoyed this album for 47 years and being my first WR experience, (finding an album in the jazz section with that cover!), and one of my favourites, what a joy despite the ins and outs of its story, to discover this track, which in my humble opinion, deserves its place next to the others.
so fucking smooth i love it so much
Where can I get this? It's not on Mysterious Traveller.
The Japanese Mastersound edition, if you want hi def. And it's here, too, so I guess you could "vid to mp3" it.
🌱🌸😃💛
Thanx so much for posting this! 🙏🏻🌟🙏🏾

Masterful
weather report forever
LOVE WEATHER REPORT
Joe Zawinul (p+synth), Wayne Shorter (s sax), Miroslav Vitous (ac b), Alphonso Johnson (el b), Ishmael Wilburn (d) and Dom Um Romao (perc). www.discogs.com/fr/Weather-Report-Mysterious-Traveller/release/1910232
This track sounds more like it's from Sweetnighter sessions than MT.
You're right, it has the 'spirit' of Boogie Woogie Walz and 125th Street Congress, but 'Cucumber Slumber' hit the same note. Just one thing; there were not sessions, but Joe Zawinul's compositions. It's not like they taped hours of jamming and then made the 'perfect cut" xD
Also reminds me of "I sing the body electric" LP from 1972.
nah. 74.
@@przemek4424 Cucumber Slumber is a flat out jam. Mysterious Traveller is a Wayne Shorter composition. Blackthorn Rose is a Shorter composition. American Tango was co-written by Miroslav. Scarlet Women was co-written by Shorter and Johnson
The live stuff on "I Sing the Body Electric" was always my favorite WR so it's nice to see that stuff being played on Film.Awesome. Thanks for Posting.
get "Live In tokyo"
Magnificent, a modern hymn to the double-bass in Jazz !
Jaco was the most innovative, creative bassist of his time. Many Jaco clones but they can never capture the true essence of Jaco, though some come pretty damn close. RIP bro. Jaco

Not bad. Sorry it wasn't included the first time around 😎
Another Jaco recording I was unaware of. The beauty of RUclips and the Internet!
Awesome video! WR's best lineup, imho........
Thanks for posting this. This music was my rescue from the arena rock of the time.
I was there, and never laughed so hard in my life.
First time I heard this was here about 5 years ago. I was on someone else's computer who didn't have a RUclips channel. Being a huge Cobham, Mahavishnu, Weather Report and RTF (Fusion) Lover. This was and is one of the coolest fusion tunes. I had never heard before 5 years ago. It was like hearing the Lost Trident Sessions for the first time. Billy is in full Mahavishnu mode, tearing it up with the single stroke roll up and down the toms and snare drum . The whole album is good. This tune 'Purple' is my favorite on the record. 'It Came from Nowhere' and 'Deloris'(wich is only Miroslav and Billy) are my other fav's from 'Purple'. 'Water Lilly' has McLaughlin on guitar. Ron Carter's 'Mood' though a trio,it has the sound of a Quartet with the Arco bass over dubs. The music on this Recording has funk, rock and Jazz; Avant gard free bop Jazz-Fusion... Don't you just hate labels!!! For fans of this era of Jazz and these musicians, this is a must hear(have,if it was available)! For the historical aspect alone is incredibly interesting... Before you even hear a note. Now it is true that a lot of 'Mahavishnu' McLaughlin fans think and feel John's not on enough of it and the tune he is on, he's tame. What makes this tune Mahavishnuish is Cobhams drumming. Anyways,I see where those fans are coming from. Me,I was excited to hear Joe Zawinal play with Billy Cobham. The Only other time that I know of is a few tunes on the complete Bitches Brew Sessions and Dejohnette was also on drums
Cosmic hears voices and talks to himself
The best tune on this record, did not make it. Strange.
Holy shit this swings and Dom freaks outy !
