The route's north-south portion largely passes through a retail core, including Eastland Mall and The Shoppes at College Hills. 2802 Hubbard Dr, Bloomington Video Walkthrough with Tracy Lockenour from the HomeSmart Pros Team
Man, the town/city have changed SO MUCH! Every time I come to my old stomping grounds theres a new building or sign.
200k for a house is not crazy cheap, lady. Lmfao.
Coming from Chicago, Bloomington is a picnic. I enjoy the friendly ppl here 😊
Must be on Section8
Rich people get away with murder all the time
I grew up in that area. Great place to raise kids. And yes, I'm thinking of returning, even though I'm retired.
Ancho is shit . Don’t forget the la hacienda, or herrdura
It has low crime rates relative to other Illinois metro areas our size. If a person has lived in high crime areas they will appreciate this.
I'm an introvert and I still like living in Bloomington Normal
Blo-No has a low crime rate as well. Especially for Illinois. And some people don't like the weather, but I love the fact that we have four very distinct seasons including a beautiful autumn.
Well this didn’t age well… considering on campus 1000 people from Chicago just took over Main Street and campus with 1 person being shot to death lol
The increase in population is mostly due to the increase in undocumented migration.
Property taxes are out the roof here!
My property taxes have increased by over 600% since I first bought my home, my income on the other hand has only increased by about 100% since then, and when you adjust it for inflation I pretty much have less spending power now than I did 35 years ago.
Born & raised here in Blono and I love it! 😊 (For reference I’m 42)
Our family moved from Normal when I was 14 years old. I'm retired and I find I still miss it. Blo-No (as I hear some call the area) was a great, great place to grow up.
And thank you for not pronouncing the S at the end of Illinois. I haven't lived there (and in Bloomington-Normal in particular) in almost 60 years but it still grates when people do that.
It bugs me too! I was on the west coast last year and everyone kept pronouncing the S. It’s a small thing but it drove me crazy 😂
I would like to move here but I live on the other side of the ocean
Where's that? South America?
Born in Bloomington. Left at 18. Back at 22 to 23. Left again and would never go back. Remember, Bloomington is in Illinois. Enough said.
That's the down fall of Bloomington, is the state it's in lol
I was born in Bloomington and grew up in Pontiac. Try living in Pontiac...
Cute
No cuban, no Waffle House no 7-11 , no Jamba. No NYC style pizza no Turkish.. The parks are awful for the most part specially in normal for a city debt issues over 250,000 tickets with their piece of crap cops who have $70,000 modified vehicles which you can’t even see their name on the side of the vehicle for the amount of tickets and the amount of money it cost but they hit everybody for especially going just one over on a downhill on Linden, they can’t even cut the fields of the park until they’re cutting over dead grass that they had already cut from six weeks prior. The roads are crappy. The schools are old. The parks aren’t maintain and this is just normal yet. They’re just putting a sign that says normal route 66 also some idiot wanted to spend millions of dollars redoing the constitution trail and you also called a part of town uptown normal when it’s literally south normal which should be considered as downtown😂😂😂😂😂 oh and Bloomington has the other Chick-fil-A so there’s only one that’s actually really supporting the entire county not just the two towns so basically over 300,000 people😂😂😂 Oh, let me add just one more thing that lack of intelligence from the city of normal they want you to park in the parking garage on the third floor when you go to take the Amtrak and that’s also the pick up and drop off somebody you know because this is back to the future three were train can fly in the sky 😂😂😂
Sounds like this isn't the place for you then :) (The city calls downtown Normal -- Uptown normal, geographically you are right though!) No waffle house -> isn't Denny's basically a waffle house? No Jamba -> That would be awesome! No 7-11 -> Idk what's so special about 7-11? We have the amazing Casey's!! I've been ticketed by Normal cops, it's no fun, but hey I was going 14 over lol Thanks for your message!
I live in bloomington these facts are goofy 😂
I know. We gotta remake this video and make a legit reason why you should avoid BloNo! I'll make that in the next month or two - Brady
helpful
Glad you liked it :)
Bull crap, I live here and will produce a factual, real life expose (actually making current situation videos which can be verified) especially all along Main street, of what life here is REALLY like. Sorry to ruin you trying to make money, it's a pipe dream.
Thanks for your opinion!
I hope to soon post the reality of Bloomington soon as of 2-22-24. You have rose colored glasses on, you do NOT see what I see and, can prove with REAL LIFE walk through through town to expose the true, provable, factual reality. . .
Thank you for your opion. At the end of the day, it's about the outlook you have on life. If you think Bloomington/Normal is terrible, you're probably not going to like living anywhere else either! Good luck!
@LivinginBloomingtonNormalIL Normal is o.k., not most of Bloomington. I just did a photo tour up & down Main Street to show the conditions of a lot of the decrepit homes. Also, the homeless tent city at Home Sweet Home and, under the Main Street Bridge, over the railroad tracks, where the homeless hang out, drink and, leave there empty Milwaulkee's Best cans all over. You are right: You "see" what you want to "see". Yet, pictures can't lie.
I'm thinking about moving to Illinois, trying to decide between Bloomington, Peoria or Springfield. It will have to wait a few years, since I decided to go back to school which I graduated from very recently. Let's say if I move to Illinois from another state, and have a few years of experience working at the previous state do I qualify to buy a home, or do I need to gain experience for a year or more in Illinois to qualify to buy a home?
Hey! Great question. To qualify for a loan you'll need 2 years of income (preferably a W2). And you'll need to provide the most recent two pay stubs, as long as your in the same field/industry when you move and can show proof that you found a new job in that same field/industry (such as a job offer letter), you'll still be able to get pre-approved (assuming you have a good debt to income ratio and a decent credit score). The state you live in doesn't matter. We have great lender referrals in the area and would be more than happy to assist you when your ready to buy. I've lived in Peoria and Bloomington. I actually prefer Bloomington a bit more, but Peoria has it's charm too. Sometime this year I'll make a video comparing the two. Smash that follow lol. Have a great day! -Brady If anyone cares to chime in on which town is better, please do!
@@LivinginBloomingtonNormalIL alrighty, thank you for getting back to me. I’ll keep that I mind. Rn I’m just studying for the national exam for medical billing and coding. I chose that career due to its stability and decent pay.
Yeah, it’s so great! You get taxed to death on everything. All the Chicago liberal douches have moved in and brought their pathetic tax increases. No thanks, I’ll take my other home town, Savannah, Ga.
I live in Blom normal and fly FPV let me know if you want to go out and fly
That's awesome, I've been thinking about getting into drone fpv, I'm always so amazed at how well pilots are able to fly around obstacles, I've always gotta play it safe with my DJI Air 2 lol. --Brady
I'm an introvert and I loved it there when I visited 2 years ago. And yes, the people were friendly. Definitely compared to Chicago people! And even polite in traffic. I hope to move there later this year.
It's a great city :) Give us a call, text or email, we'll help you move when you are ready. We are always here available to assist!
Yes, they let you in when you turn on your signal. If you do that in Chicago people think you are stupid😆
Plan to move in next year..Thanks
Awesome. Glad we could help! Reach out if you need help finding a home :) Have a great day
Just a comment there are no public swimming areas at Lake Bloomington
I appreciate that Joe! I actually didn't know this 😬 I've only ever fished out there
What about tax exemption for veterans?
Yep! Just subtract out whatever your exemption is from the assessed value before multiplying by the tax rate. In Mclean county, veterans have a $2500 or $5000 exemption.
I already do all those things in Belvidere, Illinois.
Love that!
I can only think of one reason not to move to Bloomington/Normal, IL, if you're a damn DemocRAT! 👍
Bloomington is very purple when it comes to politics (lots of democrats and republicans).
@@LivinginBloomingtonNormalIL I know, but red is better, keep the blue and purple crap up north in Shitgaco!
The mayor is democrat and he's pretty cool. Not all democratics are bad. Not all republicans are good. There's good and bad and suckage everywhere.😂
@@kimberlyjordine8115 Now, now be nice. Both Democrats and Republicans contribute to the local economy
@@LivinginBloomingtonNormalIL I like the fact that it's purple. I think it makes more eclectic
4th con, it's in a blue state, thanks to Shitcago! 😁
I guess this depends on who you ask! Illinois is a blue state. But I'd say BloNo is more of a purple city.
Please tell me about house prices under 100,000$. What about $ for an average two bedroom apartment ? I’m somewhat familiar with Bloomington/Normal. The prices for everything near Chicago and Rockford area has gone through the roof. I’m trying to deal with a fixed income, well almost a fixed income. The raise in even just the cost of food these days is having a profound effect on any ability to save for emergencies.
Rent for a 2 bed apartment is about $1200. To buy a 2 bed apartment, closer to $120-140k. There's honestly not much under $100k anymore that doesn't need a ton of work unfortunately. A few years back there were more. You can still buy apartments for less than $100k though.
@@LivinginBloomingtonNormalIL I thank you for responding, telling us about Bloomington. Can you tell me about very small towns? I by nature like living in a rural area. I like the smell of fresh cut alfalfa and straw. I’m not doing good where I live in Belvidere, Illinois. I’m close to Rockford, Illinois. Do you or does anyone know about finding an old semi-.poor condition. I’m actually pretty good carpenter. I was a union carpenter near Chicago for years. If the house is like the old Hainy place I am interested. My children are grown and gone on to live their life independently and freely. I’m a good enough carpenter to take on a run down home. 🙋♀️
I lived in this town and left 3 years ago. I worked for State Farm Corporate at the bank until they closed it. I since moved to California. Bloomington has some nice things about it, but glad I left for warmer. They have festivals, but nothing culturally like Hispanic or Asian festivals.
Good points! Yeah Cali is super nice! I go out there every year to visit Yosemite, it's amazing. Cost of living is insaneeee tho
This was wholesome. I grew up in Bloomington and currently live in Denver. I like it here but I always brag about how nice my hometown is.
After leaving for 30 years, I went back for a family event, and still couldn't stand it. The people were friendly, but it seemed out of boredom. There was a land locked feeling I don't know how to describe. A lot of the architecture looks stuck in the 70's, but not in a good way.
@@qua7771 it’s the community for me. I had a great time in Illinois.
@@DionteHelm I think there is a certain type that likes it there.
Appreciate the comment :) Bloomington is nice! A whole lot cheaper than Denver too lol. But we don't have mountains
@@qua7771 People are pretty laid back here. I'm getting old so I really appreciate the lack of intensity
Perhaps you could make a video on immigrants moving to bloomington?
I know there are tons of people migrating to Bloomington/Normal, but I'm not sure I have enough information to make such a video. I appreciate your recommendation though!
I swear I just saw you at Walmart today august 30th. I got home and searched popular nature sanctuary’s in my area and your face popped up and I recognized you 😂
I was there tonight August 30th. That's the funniest thing 😂 say hi next time. - Brady
Bloomington is my hometown. I lived there up until I was 11 years old. Went to Emerson Elementary school which is now torn down. I miss Bloomington and I’m currently living in Tucson Arizona. A god awful place of crime low wages and homeless people. Bloomington has a lot of culture and history and I went back about 10 years ago when I was visiting my sister in Decatur. The old courthouse is still standing in the center of downtown. Awesome place! Any place is better than Tucson.
Thanks for the comment! We agree with you, it is an Awesome place to live :)
I respectfully disagree (although we all remember that picture of the street in Tucson that the mayor called the ugliest street in America). For a really awful experience, you have to go to Odessa, Texas. The armpit of Hell.
I moved from Bloomington to Phoenix and I’m likely moving back next year. Cheap housing, no traffic problems, good food, better cost of living. Out west is best for vacations.
Click bait title smh
😂 I'll give you some reasons not to move here lol. 1. The weather changes a lot, 2. There's not an ocean here, 3. We don't have mountains, 4. Our roads in Illinois need some work, 5. No scenery but corn fields 😂 Hope this helps, - Brady
@@LivinginBloomingtonNormalIL The cornfields are pretty IMHO
I am considering Bloomington next year...this was a helpful video, thank you!
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it
Im moving to blono this week, thanks for making this video!
That's awesome! Welcome to Bloomington!!
*Real top 5 reasons are* 1: No fish in the lakes 2: They dont sell fun fireworks 3: The winters are too cold and the summers are too hot 4: The roads are never fixed and instead they decide to fix the sidewalks that people use every other month 5: Its nearly impossible to have a decent looking lawn without spending 400 dollars on fertilizer
Thanks for the input! 1. To catch the big fish you just need to know where the honey holes are :) 2. Illinois has a law banning real fire works unfortunately. Just drive to Indiana lol 3. Some people like the crazy weather differences. 4. I see road construction all of the time. Unfortunately, we salt the roads so often from the snow, potholes form easily. 5. Agreed with the lawn, theres always a 2 week period during the summer that the grass is absolutely dead!
1. There are fish in the grocery store 2. Fun fireworks are dangerous 3. The 4 distinct seasons are great 4. OK you may have a point 5. I waste money on a lawn service, because I am 50 and lazy
Are there any places to fly rc planes? I'm a big rc enthusiast and love flying my planes and quadcopters are there any spots for this hobby? Thanks
I wasn't sure on this, but after looking into it -- it appears there actually is! I actually fly drones a lot for our listings, but never thought to look for a dedicated flight location! We have a spot in the town of Mclean (not the county) where you can fly. It's called the Sentral Illinois Radio Society Flying Field. There is a $100 membership fee. (You can check out their website here: sirs-model-airplane-club.com). We also have a pretty cool hobby store for buying RC cars and similar things. Check out: Mid-America Raceway and Hobbies. I'm not sure about the rules and regulations of flying model planes and quadcopters at parks, but we also have a ton of big parks that might work as an option! Good luck! - Brady
YOU ARE SUCH A HATER
How about the 2nd highest property taxes in the country ?!
That's just Illinois in general. Yeah, property taxes stink!
No where near as high as Taylor, Texas or anywhere in central Texas. Especially Austin.
Wow how nice. And we have people homeless living in tents
Interesting, that's probably true in many towns. But, I've never seen any tents around, where have you seen them? We have lots of homeless shelters, if you need any help PM me and I'll be happy to offer assistance!
Yeah great place to live if you have money. No one else can afford rent. Theres also nothing to do besides go to crappy bars
Really appreciate the comments! But, that's not been our experience here. As in any town, it's all about getting out and about
There is so much traffic. If yiu drive on oakland or veterans lol.
I consider traffic where you sit and can't move your car for 20 mins. We don't really have that here right? Lol
@@LivinginBloomingtonNormalIL not a lot. Its only when theres an accident on the road or something like that. Or a really really long red light
What a great video!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for watching!
