HOW TO MAKE A BASIC FIBREGLASS MOULD: PART 2 | EPFX
This is part 2 of making a basic fibreglass mould. In this tutorial, I am going to demonstrate how to drill in bolt holes, and opening your mould. I am moulding a sculpt which will be used for a character transformation, which is why bolt holes are necessary.
Always wear the correct PPE mentioned in the video. When cutting or sanding fibreglass, you will be releasing fibreglass dust into the air, and you do not want to breathe this in, so please wear a respirator mask and protective eye wear.

I never knew a gel coat product existed, this changes everything! I have been wanting to make a 1:3 scale silicone body for a Smartdoll for ages, but couldn't get my head around how fiberglass would work as it wouldn't capture the details. Very helpful video, thanks!

Here's an idea. Why don't you put the fiberglass on the mask and then put the resin on top? The resin is going to soak the fiberglass anyway and it keeps your area just a little cleaner

suggestion: lower music volume if you use a single song
my thinking if i sculpt with loads of clay can it be reused, or do i need to make a silicon mold of it and then could maybe plaster be used or do i need to use a casting plastic to make my fiberglass mold on?
This is an open-face mold, so yes, you would be better off using silicone. You would also need a mother mold for support. Once you have that made, you can cast different materials in it (fibreglass, polyurethane, plaster and others).

What is the difference between the gel coat and the resin??
I prefer to tear the resin because cutting it gives the pieces sharp edges

try shellac if using water-based clay hope this helps..
@@myvideos9811 no it doesn't help. It's a varnish not a release agent.
@@nicholassmith8868 I use a wax release agent. I use the one you are using for rubber moulds. I know it can be used for fibreglass. As you did. Mould design plays an important part in a mould release as well. I don't like pva it's messy blue stuff. I do have a clear one. But I like mirror glaze or honey wax. Or any other wax release agents.

It’s bad enough the music is too loud. But you have the SAME track repeating in an infinite loop! Great technique but remove the music please!
What a struggle to release your mould , should probably use a pva mould release instead and use a strand mat over the gel coat first.
