    The car scammer is Ross Andrews of Kings Automotive. I can say this as I don't live in Costa Rica - no defamation here.

    If someone is willing to pay 6 mo. in advance. Why not run it through an escrow company?

    I like the language of the horn and headlights in Costa Rica as well hazard lights. It's very courteous and helpful. I have adapted the use of the hazard lights driving on the freeway here (LA/So Cal) when the freeway goes from 70 to 0 in seconds. The only issue is if you use your horn or lights someone may get offended and pull out a gun.

    Hola Sarah. As you know 2 1/2 years ago I knew you, from Zoom meetings. I met you briefly the day I arrived, from there I met Agustina and that’s it. I had both of you in my WhatsApp contacts and the Southern Zone Group. Now (after cleaning out the ones I don’t need or use anymore) I have literally 50-60 contacts plus more people I engage with regularly, both expats and Nicaraguans, South Americans I know and meet at various some others I know at community events. I think it’s 50-50 on the Ticos and foreigners I know personally. You need to put yourself out there as you said and there’s so much to do if you just leave your house and comfort zone just a little. It’s not that hard here in CR if you just try. Most of us foreigner are here for the same reason and we’re easy to engage with. Be open minded is good advice, and yes try to learn a little Spanish. I’m pretty busy most of the time and at times I have to decline an invitation if I’m not up to it.

    Who are the travel insurance companies?

    • @surflifeimages
      @surflifeimages 4 месяца назад

      You can go online to Trawick International or Alliance. FYI, book your travelers insurance as soon as you book your flight, it will save you a bunch of money. Like Sarah mentioned. Credit card insurance is not medical insurance. Credit card insurance is good for flight issues and car rentals. Also, check your own medical insurance to see if they cover abroad. At a bare minimum, get some sort of emergency medical insurance. Sarah and Jairo are definitely on topic with this.

    Again, another podcast that hits so many relevant subjects. Being from California (Orange County) the cost of living is eye watering!!!. Not too mention the mass crowds, stressed out people, road rage, lack of community, self absorption in the "me, me, mine" materialist rat race etc. It's absolutely bat crazy! A person commented on having to leave the US because they couldn't afford where they are living.... (8:30). Let me tell you.... that's not far from the truth but many people don't want to realize that. Awesome podcast....

    Oh ya..... What Jairo is talking about with the bike lanes is what was called "road diets" in Los Angeles. Some "geniuses" thought by taking away lanes and putting in bike lanes (in the most congested city around), people would bike more. Wrong! No one uses them and it added massive amounts aggravation and pressure to peoples lives. Great podcast!!!!

    I love rainy season too! Even as a tourist. Beaches aren’t as crowded, lodging is cheaper, wildlife is more active, everything is lush and green, fruits and flowers are in bloom, and like you, I LOVE the rain! 🌧️☔️ Great podcast topic 🥰🫶🏽

    Congratulations on your up coming nuptials!🎉 The rainy season is the only time I might put on my one pair of black jeans I own, some thin socks and light running shoes if I’m going out. At 18-20’C at night, my feet feel cold because of the 6 months of 24-27’C normal temps. Where I moved from 18-20’C at night would be July temperatures and outdoor party weather. With umbrellas, don’t by the ones that give you minimal coverage, get something that’s a little larger and get a few of them. Leave a light rain jacket and a hat or 2 in your trunk in one of those wet bags. Love the rainy season, mostly.

    I was in San José one time for the entire month of September and another time for about 10 days in October and never had a problem with the rain. And these are the rainiest months of the year. If you are driving, you may want to pull off the road until the rain passes. And definitely at night in a rainstorm driving is not recommended How concerned should you be about landslides if you are renting a place on the side of a mountain? My wife and I will be doing that for the next couple weeks.
