I’ve had multiple pairs. Love them. They are less fatiguing for me, but hard enough to slide my 180s well. They’re perfect for the flat skating and flip tricks. I would size up on them for park and transition though, get the bigger sized dragon formulas. But, as you know, C5 has its limitations when going fakie or nollie, or doing any rotations that put you fakie.

The modern liberal wants to pretend that those of European descent are the only ones capable of such cruelty. Yet look at the Native-Americans or the Africans, their ancestors were neck deep into conquering and slavery. It doesn’t matter how much pigment you have under your skin, human nature is human nature.

      Where’s that? Yeah you definitely gotta time it right this time a year. The sun turns it to slush, it hardens over night, the groomers stay hard until 9:45am, but early is when no one is on the mountain and no lines for lifts. On the hard pack you definitely gotta mind your edges and watch the changes in the snow for ice patches that didn’t get groomed. It’s not a time to take a fall. Today it was better but fully blown up by 1pm. I only had one fall going fully speed in the bumpiest slush ever. So bumpy. So heavy. I just sorta got bucked off my board and washed out at like 35mph or more heading to the base on the last lower stretch that had the most sun and warmest temps. Luckily I kept everything tucked in so I was good. But that was time to quit. Plus at the summit I almost fist fought two guys. One with rental skis kept smashing my board from behind on line and I mentioned it to him and he then started making fun of me running his mouth. At the top I called him out and he and his buddy tried to threaten me. I told them one at a time, skinny mouth first, fat back up second, but security came, and an older lady who saw it all told him that I was right, he was banging my equipment and had no respect. Talk about not optimal. Never a dull day on the mountain.

      @@mikeuptegrove haha I saw bro. Mountain sass is so weak man. Everybody should be good vibes only I’ve never surfed but snowboarding may be my favorite thing to do on earth. The mountains are gorgeous and the flow of the sport is amazing idk how anybody brings that vibe up there. Angel fire is in New Mexico. Us living in DFW Tx and for basically all of Tx is the closest and cheapest place to drive too. It’s in Taos county. The 3 major resort runs are Taos, Red River, and Angel. The only problem is NM climate is decent but they suffer from droughts so most of it is man made and it’s incredibly rare more than 50% of the mountain to be open. I mean you basically have to pick one to three runs and hit repeat. A skier was going faster than he could handle and busted in front of my wife caused her to wobble and she ate it really really hard l straight on her knee. She had surgery and has been in physical therapy for going on a year. She recently “graduated” from it but really we couldn’t justify the cost of it anymore. She’s doing a lot better now. I feel guilty everyday because my adventuress attitude is what brought us there and I had the idea of a nice cheap mountain trip. Totally inverted our life and she basically never wants to do it again. One thing that gets me is when the lift chair hit us the first time she was so amazed it was like we were flying and was having so much fun. It was her first time back since she was a kid. I fell way more than her (snowboarding) but i was trying to nail down things on my switch side and doing more difficult stuff so idk you just fall a lot when you do that. Her spill was maybe one of four. Blows my mind man. Anyway. I’m so glad to see a dude like you gettn it and don’t let those guys get to your head

      @@yoced1468 bummers. Yeah, I saw black when my tail bone hit the ice. I was barely going, I did the standard butt fall, but didn’t realize it was pure ice. I didn’t want to catch myself with my arms. I was saying hello to a friend and barely moving. All my high speed blowouts were way less painful. Sadly I have been beating myself up here just getting used to new equipment. I normally don’t fall. It’s been all dumb stuff truly. And partly the poor conditions. But at my age it feels like a high price to pay. I rather surf and save my body the abuse because though surfing is harder to master or get good at, your dumb mistakes generally cost less. Hopefully all my dumb little falls are over. I think I finally got my equipment more or less the way I like it. The board felt good today, not it’s a v rocker and truthfully I feel safer on a regular full camber. And the little board is a pow board and I’m trying to ride it on ice and in slush. So it’s my fault. I probably wouldn’t have had the tail bone al on my narrower board, cause the edge would’ve caught before I lost it. Wide boards are just less responsive. You pay a price for less responsiveness. I paid. Feeling okay, but it’s scary cause you take a fall like that, and think wtf am o doing and why? Like I do not want to miss any surf from other non surfing accidents! It’s why I slowed up on skating. But, there’s got to be a way for me to ride that I can accept as progressive enough but where I clean up dumb slip ups and not pay the price for dumb falls. I’m sorry about your wife. After years away from snowboarding, I have a different view today. I don’t recommend it to older people if they don’t do it all the time. I’m pretty solid. Not many my age would ride away the way I did, still the fastest guy on the mountain. I think honestly, I’ll maybe do the occasional snowboard trip for powder, maybe Japan. Where it’s SOFT! But I rather just surf till I’m 80 and not derail that with dumb slams on ice. But! The Sunny days here are gorgeous and sun in the mountains is beautiful.

    • @yoced1468
      @yoced1468 23 дня назад

      @@mikeuptegrove yeah man those are the trade offs I toss around too. Save for a big trip or just go to the closest icey mountain because it’s pretty and easier to get too. I want the powder as well. Big accidents don’t happen the same way, though still risky usually you aren’t falling on borderline concrete at 20+. I think most would choose that. Haha bro. What you described just now as why am I even doing this. When my wife fell I asked her “did you feel the mountain turn on you?” She was like “what do you mean?” I said “it’s when you take a big spill and it totally kills the buzz. You look at every hill as an obstacle. You look at the people around you having fun with a sense of spite and envy. You feel the pain in your legs. Your smile fades.” She said “totally” and I know the mountain turned on her. I saw it in her form after. She refused to get patrol to sled her down so she slowly went down and every person that passed she stared at the snow. It’s heart breaking man but that’s all part of it. The mountain has never really turned on me directly but it turns in a different way sometimes. Mostly when people are having a bad time. Dudes are pissed. Girls are crying. Ect. I’ve never broke a bone though. I’ve belly flopped at 30mps at least, bounced off of rocks, face planted so hard my goggles left a cut in the shape of goggles on my face but I always get up and keep going. I wager if you had a buddy to brush the snow off and maybe laugh with you it wouldn’t be so existential. And totally not saying you didn’t keep going but sometimes having a spectator laugh non offensively takes you out of that head space. Parody fixes a lot. That’s what I try and do. Doesn’t always work though. I had some tailbruises too mate. I had to actually break down and buy knee pads from the shop because I have a bad habit of eating it on my knees trying to switch sides and my front end catches. I can nail it most the time but fuk only 3 falls on hard snow you start to feel it. Good thing I did put them under my pants they worked so good. Definitely had some hard spills on them too. Still felt the shock but takes away the throb. Soft gell type things. Also. You could look at padded compression shorts. I don’t take you for a pads type of guy but for a sport that isn’t your life or passion I never saw the point in throwing your body on the line for those 5 days of snow (but ya know, ice) I hope you’re catching waves tell your 90 bro. Also you’re an awesome dude.

    • @mikeuptegrove
      @mikeuptegrove 23 дня назад

      @@yoced1468 yeah, you summed up a lot of it. I had that fight incident the other day with the disrespectful assholes banging my board with rental skis. It probably carried over with me some into yesterday despite trying to forget about it. Stuff like that ruins the vibe of your spirit. You go on analyzing it till it makes sense and it doesn’t. Most of my serious slams are behind me in snowboarding. I’ve had some heavy injuries in my youth from riding. ACL, MCL, didn’t a scorpion learning that was pretty bad, had some good hard slams. Now however, I’m not stunting much so I normally don’t fall just riding. The conditions aren’t great so that’s a part of it. I’m on brand new equipment and playing with stances and binding angles again. The first few days was all back foot heel washouts at very high speed, probably like 35 to 40mph. Half was the condition, sloppy heavy wet snow and bombed out runs. Half was my high back and angle on binding not lining up. I fixed that. Had one day of No falls. Yesterday, the tail bone on ice was just dumb. I say a friend, said hello looking back slowing to a stop via a traverse in the middle of a run, barely rolling I saw a giant ice chunk when I turned around, swerved but had no speed, the wider board doesn’t grab an edge as fast when you want it too. I knew I was gonna fall so I tucked my arm in and tried to use my back and ass, thinking it was soft enough, because down lower it was, except I was high up yet, and it was still complete ice. So when I hit it was solid ice, everything went black on me it was that painful. I laid there a solid minute and then rode away fine. It was throbbing off and on on the lift. I rode out another run fine. At the top getting off the lift the guy I shared with fell, distracted me and I went down on the ice again on my shoulder. The mountain turned on me. It was painful too, solid Fucking ice again!! I just said f it. I did a straight line from the top to bottom, probably going 40, full focus, and just laid in the locker room on my back, moving around trying to decide if I’m hurt hurt or not. I wanted to go back out, but with spine stuff you need time to be sure. I’m going today, except I’m waiting till I know it’s had plenty of sun to be soft. I think I’ll be okay as long as I don’t land on it again. I definitely looked up padded shorts. Lol. No I’m not a pads guy, but same thoughts crossed my mind. I’m just gonna not fall anymore I’ve decided.

I’m glad the one lady came to my defense having seen it all and sick of people who don’t own their equipment banging into others with their rental shit. It’s like a thing here, to fucking bang people’s equipment. It’s the third time I’ve said something. First time it almost turned into a real thing. Mostly people gave you two inches and just pay attention after you tell them. I had a dumbass yesterday throw his skis down, one hitting my board then stomp into his ski with his ski on top of my board. I ask him Wtf he was doing and with all the room and no one behind him, why he thought it was okay stomp his ski on my board. Nothing to say. Slack jaw and dumb stare he gave me. There’s just no etiquette here really. It’s lots and lots of dumb beginners. None of these people could survive a surf trip to Hawaii. They’d get beat up too fast for being disrespectful pretending they don’t know and that it’s, “culture”. The next time they tell me it’s culture, I’m gonna tell them kindly, that no, it’s actually the absence of culture. Cause that’s what it is. Argentines are a mixed bunch. Some are the best people you’d ever meet, and you’ll be friends for life, and many more are just unconscious, fully entitled, jerks, of another kind. It’s sorta sad really. Cause the place is beautiful otherwise. It’s just the result of zero middle class and the absurdly rich people pretending to coexist while treating everyone else like shite. That’s the closest to the truth probably. There’s been one guy here who has been treating me like a brother and when I leave I’m gonna invite him to stay at my house if he ever has the desire to come to Hawaii. He’s been that kind and gone out of his way that I have to extend the gratitude somehow. But that’s the story of Argentina. I always knew that, but wasn’t sure how it translated into snowboarding. It’s me me me, cut cut cut, bang other’s expensive equipment without a care, me first me first, what line, “other culture”,

I’m at 7.500 feet and there’s electrostatic sparks coming off my clothes at night. No joke.

      Thanks brother! Aren’t we all? I am sorta living most aspects of the shit I always dreamed about as a kid. Didn’t realize it would turn out like this, and o guess I didn’t realize how much of my soul went into those dreams over others I thought were all consuming. I say that now because I tend to believe we plant seeds with our dreams and the more energy we put into the dreams the more they come true in some regard that represents the initial energies we put into them.

      First time since 2017 or 2018…can’t recall. It’s fun. I like the mountains, it’s a good change of pace. I think I like surfing better though however. Snowboarding is the kinda thing you sorta need your boys for, or a chick that rips, with you. And that’s hard to organize. Surfing you just show up and the crew is the crew.

      @@dawidjuros474 nice. Sounds like the way things go in life. When we were young and had interest we sorta assumed all we put into would be for something, some future iteration of self that was better yet. You take for granted that not everyone keeps in love with things they once did, so you constantly go on forming new crews to do sport with in life. And as the years pass you find yourself, if you’re lucky, the old guy among kids, still attached to the things that too gave us joy in our youth.
