I miss that sharp scary turn. Now it has been reconstructed.
not reconstructed. what planet are you from?
@@robroy6374 Not sure but back in the 80's that curve into Rockaway was different. The curve used to be sharper and happen still where the water is. It was scary. The subway car was tilting to the side as if it was gonna fall into the water. They reconstructed the curve and now its not as sharp and the curve starts once its already on land. Not sure when they did it, probably after the huge hurricane.
@@Bassotronics that curve wasn't modified at all.
@@robroy6374 Interestingly enough, the 1980's subway map also confirms what I said. The curve is over the water.
Was this a R32?
Can't wait for the Railroad Museum in Oyster Bay to be completed in the future.
8:52 how did they MU the two MP15's?
It is amazing to me that the trains are still permitted to pass each other on these old bridges. the folks who built this are long gone but their work lives on.
We need DIFFERENT DESIGNATIONS for DIFFERENT DESTINATIONS. One of the longest delays is at Rockaway Blvd. station. Because the A goes 3 ways, the conductor has to say which A train it is and which way it is going. I remember the HH that took us to PLAYLAND. The Rockaway Park train should be labeled H and the Far Rockaway train should be Labeled K, as in JFK Airport.
My dad took me and my sister on this train ride we we’re kids my dad is gone now still looks the same we had fun
clean & painted engines would have been nice, shame on you MTA
This rail truck needs more care for safety
Where are they right now?
RiP 11.1.12
I live in NJ now and watching this brought back so many memories. In the winter time, I always knew I was "home" when that door opened once the train got to the Rockaways and that cold azz air would snap you out of whatever slumber you might have been in! It was ALWAYS about twenty degrees colder in the "Rock" than anywhere else in the city. "NEXT STOP BEACH 60th STRAITON AVENUE. STAND CLEAR OF THE CLOSING DOORS PLEASE" LOL! I see u Edgemere, OV, Nordeck, Arverne!!!
Yeah, the LIRR used to go there. And idk why MTA still uses those, but as corcom2007 said it was actually going fast, but the camera was zoomed in lol
this has to be the most isolated area of the city
you got that right
It IS the longest stretch between stops--almost 4 miles! That INCLUDES the run under 8th Avenue/CPW.
pbatommy p lesha
Those clowns can't run a train on schedule.
MS 137 :)
DERAILMENT at 5:02
why didn't they at least borrow a couple of the MTA GP40 ballast engines or a couple BL20's a switcher pulling this is like a lightweight fighting a heavyweight
That would suck if the train was speeding down the hill XD
@PuddingBeatStudios LOL What?
@islandguy924 I think you're confusing Penn Central with the Pennsylvania Railroad. bobwiland is right about the Far Rockaway Branch, but it was actullay the LIRR that belonged to the Pennsylvania Railroad during the first decades of the 20th Century.
I actually thought this was going to be old footage of the LIRR Rockaway Beach Branch until I clicked on it.
I did too, but it's the A starting in Far Rockaway, across Jamaica Bay past Broad Channel, then on to the Queens mainland into Brooklyn then downtown Manhattan. The line my father hated every day when he had to get to the to work.
DONT FALL ASLEEP ON THAT TRAIN HOMIE!!! NIGGAZ A ROB U BLIND U!!! FAR ROCK AINT A GAME!! ALL THEM OUT OF TOWN NIGGAZ WHO AINT FROM NY YALL SHOULDNT GO TO FAR ROCK U HERD!!!! AND IMA BX NIGGA
@DTD110865 I believe the crossings at Clinton Rd. and Washington Ave. in Garden City are exempt from needing gates (and from busses and hazmat trucks having to come to a full stop) since the tracks are only used a couple of times each year - and they use flagmen at those times.
LIRR claims that they're the only railroad with crossing gates at every single grade crossing, but I can think of two where they don't have them; A private road in Eastport, and 6:30 in this video.
back in the day, on the old r-1/r-9 cars, you could open the windows and piss on the flora and fauna (if the car was empty).......ahhhh, for the good old days!!!!!! and, yes, it was never part of penn central.....god forbid.
Hes on a phase ll R32! I know my train!
@MNRRConductor2006 far rockaway
great catch! got it also in NJ with HHP-8's
can't believe those engines could pull such a long train
For me this is how i get to far rockaway. Catch NJT 508 to atlantic city Catch NJT 319 to New York (Port Ath) Catch A train to Broad Station Catch Shuttle to Far rockaway :)
I have a special interest in this place. My father ran the Coney Island Yard back in the 1970s and into the early 1980s. He was what's known as the "Barn Chief." It's an enormous operation that goes 24/7 365 days a year. When he was there he had a staff of approximately 800 employees, including 28 foremen, 2 assistant supervisors and 5 secretaries. A very stressful job. He had a heart attack at age 57 and was transferred to lighter duty. It's an amazing place known as "The Coney" at MTA.
Haa Haaa check out the hub cap/rim @ 9:22
were you on an r40 slant?
@ianjohn05 huh? whatcha mean grab the 3rd rail from the top and bottom?
@billbarman I keep telling Gary F that I'll get there one of these Saturdays to help out, but so far I haven't found the time.
Wow! As an ex-New Yorker I really enjoyed that. I spent the majority of my subway rides on the IRT, but I remember the BMT having some really cool runs, like this one. As an adult seeing this, it amazes me how complex the MTA's track layout on this line is. Thank you for posting :-)
This El was part of the Fulton Street El until Apr 26,1956 when the IND connection at 88st took over. . The Rockway conection opened in Jun '56. The last LIRR train to the Racetrack ran in oct 55. the last train to Ozone Park was in June 1962 when the line was abandoned from the LIRR mainline in Rego Park all the way to Liberty ave where the A connects roday.
i never rode these old trains when i was a kid because dad would always take us to ronkonkoma instead because it was more convenient than patchogue. so i wish i could actually step foot on these old trains somehow. as for the old m1 cars they should have saved a few more than what they have saved. theres at least less than 10 m1 cars that were saved and all the others were scrapped already. at least metro north still runs their m1 trains on a daily bases!
its not goin slow he just zoomed in the camera
it was approachin rockaway blvd slow for a reason look at the right of screen from 0:04 to 0:17
Wrong railing means running against the normal flow of traffic. It's not even possible on every track. Normally trains run into Queensboro Plaza on this track from Manhattan.
why is it goin so fuckin slow?
The N,W lines to astoria-ditmars blvd
The A train to uptown Far Rockaway is so scary. Especially the sharp curve when entering Rockaway. The train takes the curve very slowly and tilts to the side like if it were going to plunge into the water from that high bridge! Creepy!
LOL!
I remember riding those coaches. On summer Friday mornings, they would take a few of the parlor car coaches into Hunterspoint Ave from the Pt. Jeff yard to make up the Hampton express trains later on that afternoon. We regular commuters would get to ride in the parlor car seats - very comfortable! Those days are gone with the double deckers.
I hATED R38s glad they retired em
grafiti gives them character... all they do is sit now isntead of being used to save taxpayers money...they were great coaches and they did there jobs nonstop....lirr kicks em to the curb so somones gotta pain em up to make em happy. im an ex-lirr engineer and i left when they got rid of the old fleet.
