Videos primarily on TF2, but some on others (Smash, Halo, Deep Rock Galactic, Zombies etc.).
I prefer to take a more scripted approach to my videos so expect that from me. If I want to make something unscripted/scraps, that goes to the second channel.
If you're interested to see more from me, you can check out the RGL RUclips channel.

[TF2] Kickstart My Bap - 6s Engineer Frag Montage
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.2 года назад
This is from season 9 of RGL 6s where I run full-time engineer and replace the flank scout. At the time of writing my team is heading into playoffs and it's been a great season (I still have like another 10 minutes of clips). I'm planning on making 1-2 videos about the season, one to encourage people to try their mains in 6s if they don't main a 6s class, and another about specifically how to p...

My Highlander team wanted me to make a frag movie for the team after the season ended, this is my portion. Nobody has really covered this topic in quite a while, at least here in North America so the information that's out there in video form is pretty outdated so I figured I'd remedy that. 1 Year of Competitive TF2: What I learned
Просмотров 24 тыс.3 года назад
I probably should have clipped more as the seasons went on, but oh well. This video was written up and recorded as soon as my team made playoffs for IM (we've been eliminated since then, but still going to Main) as a gut-feeling reaction, but slightly cleaned up to reflect my thoughts better. Since then I haven't really changed how I feel about what I've learned from the seasons of 6s, Highland...

its really nice to see someone else go against the normal set up i am an ex 6s player and i was a full time heavy which was some of the best 6s i played (before i did heavy i was a demo player) replacing a soldier or even the demo with a heavy actually shuts down roamer and flank and ruins enemy demo plays if they dont plan around you if you ever plan on redoing this idea i recommend heavy and if you do it always run banana or chocolate it might seem like an odd choice but the banana has such a fast recharge that in 6s it will keep your medic and yourself alive more then sandwich and the chocolate gives just enough extra health that uber pushes get delayed enough to stop the push in most cases :3
This is fucking awesome! And I say that as someone who primarily favors soldier/demo/sniper
wow this is such a well made video
just so y'all know, this video has custom subtitles. enjoy!
I kinda wish Valve/the community would try a 7 or 8v8 format instead TF2's clearly balanced around a 12v12 format, so naturally in a 6v6 setting, half of the cast would be niche or useless. Honestly the reason why I prefer Highlander _way_ more than 6v6 (aside from the fact that the format includes every single class).
The 7v7 is called prolander and there is a bit of following with that but as the balance stands it’s kind of a weird standing to be liked by a lot of players but still fun 8v8 would probably just be Highlander without one class which I don’t think Highlander players would like that idea if they want all classes to participate Honestly to each their own, I like 6s more than Highlander cause how dynamic and how unexplored it is, proven through odins demoknight and antoni beggars bazooga being a very viable weapon (of course people know that but didn’t unlock it to its full potential unlike antoni), along with Kawa or another player I forgot their names pyro, kawa beating froyotech and the other player just kicking ass on lan downunder 2022. I’m not really gonna count quequeeys engineer cause he was in second to bottom division called amateur in this video but still waiting on the engineer in 6s video.
Sorry for a long text just like to talk about comp tf2 haha 😅
no offense man but in this video in particular, you sound like squidward
16:10 Dane wilding, Uncletopia still tryhard fest simply because tons of Engy mains are there, and Engineer is anti casual class, he and his sentry FORCE you to try hard or else you are hard countered by his sentry preventing you from doing funny fish scout kill on that hard scoped sniper 😢 Also O agree with previous take about player destruction being modernised TDM, although I still wish we had regulatlr TDM cuz PD promotes pub stomping with medic gf 😢
19:43 i like the joke
You, just like many other newer competitive players, have a bit of a rose-tinted view of the competitive scene and Valve. Yes I know you are aware Valve doesn't actually update the game and all that, but you're missing key events. Back before the Meet your Match update, we actually got the 'holy grail' moment in competitive TF2. This was when Overwatch was announced and many of the top competitive players at the time were urging Valve to respond because otherwise they were practically forced to stop playing TF2 competitively if they wanted to make a living. On top of that, the scene felt that this was the one and only opportunity to make Valve do anything that could change the landscape we'd been stuck in for 10+ years at that point. Valve, to everyone's surprise, ended up actually responding after a bunch of top players internationally came together and sent them a letter. It was a last-ditch effort and it seemed to work. What followed was hundreds of top players, and thousands of the community coming together to playtest, review and give feedback to Valve on how to grow the scene. I've never seen a community be this focused and passionate about wanting the game to succeed competitively. Ultimately (long story short) Valve proceeded to betray the community's trust and not listen to the feedback and playtesters and instead 'ruin' the game with the atrocity that was the Meet your Match update. Releasing a broken matchmaking system, balance changes nobody asked for, on top of pitting the already adverse casual fanbase more against the competitive one than ever before. An effect that is lasting to this day. Many of the people who poured their hearts and souls into all of this nowadays either don't play the game anymore, or just play for fun. This is especially true in regions other than North America, where people no longer look to push for the 'good of the game' but would rather play and have fun challenging themselves and improving. Many of the top players of the time left the game to make a living doing other things. Quitting gaming, doing overwatch, going into streaming, casting (production) etc. The funny thing is that a lot of top players and community members who had forsaken Valve after their betrayal actually ended up going somewhere in gaming, while the people who stuck with the game and kept believing in Valve have to this day, gone nowhere. Colour me unsurprised then that I keep seeing videos with similar opinions to these in your video by newer players, either ignorant or unwilling to give up. Although I do respect the grind, as it were, I honestly don't think it will go anywhere. We will not see the competitive TF2 scene flourish unless Valve actually supports us. And the chance that this happens is so infitesimally small I don't even consider it. Alongside the other comments criticizing your view here, with some pointing out the flaws in your Smash timeline, I have to say I'm still not convinced. I'll keep playing competitively and helping out newer players and promoting inclusivity instead of toxicity. But I'm not going to delude myself into pushing for the most 'vanilla' TF2 experience in 6s. That time has long passed.
25:30 you dont need a dispenser to make that jump
It too scary for me even with 1200 hours I still don’t think I’m good enough for that
I would play 6s if it wasnt dominated by 5cp, genuinely do not understand what people like about the gamemode so much.
So you had a lot of issues with 5cp in casual and I feel you missed the mark entirely. The thing is, casuals... are often... not playing to win. So they don't want the match to end as soon as possible.
Running a pseudo-scout full time is fine. Now pyro on the other hand...
3k subs what the heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllll
i saw this in my feed again since 11 months hope ur well
Dont like Granary? Opinion ignored.
$10 says you touch kids
Im surprised ANYONE would scrim you if they knew your gimmick.
not that it'll ever happen but tf2 balance changes should never be based on comp
Honestly this goes to show is comp is a meta joke and Like mvm Any competent players know how to play and can win no matter the team composition. 6's is probably the worst and valve was mega dumb to try to balance it around comp scene. Also OP -stereotype that comp players dont play another classes -thats not true -plays engy once -unfortunately there arent any guides on engy for 6's 😂
@@newturtle3 play a season then competent player who knows how to play and can win no matter the team composition. surely you can roll those dirty meta slave newcomer teams with your beast gunspy.
A couple notes from moments in this. "Enemy team ragequits when losing" - I personally think if this happens during a match, not a scrim, the enemy team should be struck with a penalty for the behavior. Going totally stale is what kills comp in games, and that's basically them saying "well we didn't lose to the meta, so we didn't lose" by leaving. "Enemy team denies a time slot then scrims during it" - Another thing I truly think should be struck with some kind of penalty, this kind of thing, as it seems like a team HOPING they can cause issues, and force a lose, which they did... But since you still won 2 matches during that I'd say they still didn't do 100% well against this. "We did have multiple teams in play-offs reach out to scrim us" - Now THIS is a good thing to hear, the fact that they wanted to have an unusual team to play against, because it meant more fun matches then the stock standard meta team comps. "Crushing the other team on both of the maps in play-offs, them refusing to adapt" - Can see why they'd be considered toxic, they likely considered your team not even worth the effort, but HAD to fight you now, and would likely have quit if it was just scrims. Crushing them proves their failures and is absolutely fantastic. Overall it seems like good players wanna play with different classes. Bad players, or rather players who are more toxic want the meta to remain because they can't adapt as well. I've seen multiple videos on this kind of idea and it always has multiple issues with players not wanting to scrim teams with different designs.
Wait, the other team can just say "No, you can't have *that guy* on your team this time"? Doesn't that seem odd?
I'd love to find a team to do comp heavy full time with
based
I agree really hard with the "no team will scrim you if you play nonmeta" comments. It hurts the scene big time, and I've seen teams go around it by doing normal scrims then doing a ton of training behind the scenes with off-class battle plans. A good example was a couple of lower leagues that had people using a pyro instead of 2 scouts or 2 soldiers, airblast totally ruining the roamer on the other team trying to kill their med and allowing the pyro to fight off their scouts because of afterburn forcing a fallback. The teams in a couple of cases like this, however, complained that the other team, who was outright destroying anyone that refused to adapt, was "throwing" all of their matches. They all wanted to be in the higher leagues so badly that they outright complained that the other team must be doing this to troll, instead of it being a tactic that was completely WORKING until they were told to avoid doing off-classing outside of the usual cases. Some teams will even refuse matches, official matches, if they don't get their way. Higher leagues have rules to stop this, lower leagues do as well, but lower leagues buckle to the "best" players, who gripe the most.
dudeeee this was such an enjoyable video. thank you for taking us with you on the season long journey. it really makes me want to get into comp in TF2, I've only done like 3 placements in the last 5 years lmao.
Hello, is there a public VOD of Froyotech’s Engi on Clearcut? I’m referring to 22:02 - I tried searching for it, but couldn’t find it
Unfortunately no. B4nny streamed it not RGL so there's no vod to watch. They also didn't upload the demo of the match (before uploading demos was required for every match), so the only thing that exists of it is the log, which is a shame.
Solid editing, but I feel like the script kinda wandered at times and it didn't feel like there was enough set up or focus on the matches and what occured in them. It's nice to have the clips playing while talking but I would like some real time from the game so it clarifies big events. Overall interesting video tho +1.
dude we spoke yesterday a bit about tf2 comp and you recommended me some stuff! what i considence to get recommended your video
I thought the title was “I played engineer in 6s (as in seconds)”
The issue with 5cp is that its way too long for casual Plays I say that as someone who mainly plays 2fort
I wish competitive Tf2 players would realize that they have not solved their game. The belief that these off classes cant be ran full time is a belief that is unverified. There has been too little work to attempt to run these classes full time in 6s to make any definitive claims on their viability. I used to play competitive 6s, and moved on to different games, mainly melee and chess. For tf2 players to claim that after only 15 years a game as complicated as Tf2 has been fully fleshed out (not counting the fact that the 6s format isnt that old and the game has been updated numerous times) is just complete bs. If we look at other games like before mentioned melee and chess, these games have been out for far longer than Tf2, have a vastly larger player base than Tf2, and are comparatively far simpler than tf2. Chess, by far the most simplest of the 3 games has been around for 100s of years and the "meta" evolved countless times throughout those centuries. Same situation for melee a game that has been out for 23 years yet still finding new innovations with characters like DK or Yoshi. For these games, which are far more simple than Tf2, to have gotten what is "optimal play" wrong time and time again, how can we trust that Tf2 Professionals actually know what optimal play looks like? And again when i say "optimal play" i mean optimal play for a human, so not including like aimbot sniper. After becoming a part of these other competitive communities and seeing the sheer herculean task it takes to find truly optimal play for these games it makes you realize that there has been comparatively very little work done in comparison on Tf2 With the amount of variables and different situations you can find in an average 6s match 15 years is nowhere near enough time to determine the viability of these off classes being ran full time. The only thing keeping these classes (except maybe spy) from being played full time is peoples unwillingness to try them and play against them.
i 100% agree with u and im glad u mentioned melee, its the perfect example of metas evolving despite the common perception with aklo, amsa and junebug finding success with mid tiers decades after theyre written off. i think personally alot of high level tf2 players know that the meta is more diverse but refuse to change anyway, b4nny has said multiple times that everyone is a generalist class and could be theoretically viable but the meta wont change despite this. i think tf2 needs an amsa, or a junebug to show the community that the meta is more diverse then they think
33:32 "heals, [over]heals, ubers and heals"
Im curious about why the Widowmaker never made an appearance I understand tge consistency of the stock but you had good aim to make the Widowmaker work im sure you thought about it but im curious why it was not used
Good question! The widowmaker WAS a consideration for the team, I think you can actually see me using it in a previous video on logjam (I think that was the map?). But for this, it just generally wasn't worth using the widowmaker outside of last. On last your 2 main choices are the Widowmaker and Frontier Justice, with the Frontier Justice generally being the better choice. When you're running around the map as engie you're constantly resetting your minis, so making sure you always have a round 100 or 200 metal was super important and the Widowmaker would put a wrench into that. Then there was long range chip damage that you probably saw once or twice in this video where you saw me shoot a shell and get like 20 damage, so with the Shotgun it was just more consistent on that aspect. If we run Engie-ubers like we did in Prolander then I'd be using shotgun, but for this setup in 6s I'm ok with keeping my trusty Shotgun or Panic Attack for most of the game.
great storytelling!
Really looking forward for your guide since I blacklisted Dane everywhere I could.
did dane do something?
I dont care what anyone says, if I ever play comp tf2 I'm maining heavy.
For a second i thought this was a funny compilation comically labeled as "i played engineer for 6 seconds" and your experienced every negative engineer feeling within that time.
I love this trend of using SiIvaGunner long-form rips as background music for TF2 videos.
Dude is shaking his mouse when not shooting, ur on pure adrenaline mate.
21:50 hey I’m dumb can someone tell me what a “reverse victory” is?
I was just saying that they were shutting us out in the first half, and then we shut them out in the second half and won the game (reversing the score).
I'm the one here who read a title as "I played Engineer in 6 seconds"?
As an europian, I can't belive you said ONLY 8 hour drive, I could be in France in that time
It's pretty common in the U.S., it makes sense after you realize the U.S. is the size of Europe (ex. Texas is about twice the size of Germany). We don't have good rail infrastructure outside of the East Coast so we have to drive unfortunately.
i like how many comp tf2 videos use melee music
"only an 8 hour drive" tell me youre from the mid-west without telling me lmao
My dumb ass thought from the title you meant you played Engineer in 6 seconds
