Peely was a hero to many generations & championed many diverse underground genres,but I can't believe anyone loved him like the Punks of '77/'78,to us he was a teacher & a friend,a middle class guy that working class kids could relate to.People always talk about his passion for The Undertones but we remember he was forever pushing great bands like Stiff Little Fingers,Wire,The Yachts,The Motors (before they went pop),The Carpettes,The Flys,Buzzcocks,Outcasts,Swell Maps & The Slits.He changed the lives & attitudes of thousands,maybe hundreds of thousands,in his all too short life,we were priviliged to have him on our side,eternal respect to the coolest man in the history of alternative music

Genuinely superb. They really were a great band. That includes Come On Eileen, even though that's kinda pigeon-holed them as the band your creepy uncle would dance to at weddings. Really, they were amazing I think. Most bands I have met recognise this, to be fair.

Haven't spotted anyone mentioning his R4 program "Home Truths", which I used to thoroughly enjoy. I listened to his R1 show late 70's/early 80's, mainly because they flicked it over to FM, from Radio 1's awful AM signal. He played a lot of ghastly crap, but I gritted my teeth as he would intersperse some of the worst stuff with an old Fifties disc he liked (Don French, Ron Holden etc), or the revival albums at the time from The Beach Boys, like "Surf's Up".

One of my favorites 1971 when I was 20 .. enjoying now at 72 in 2024.. great band.
