On the Fuji you can press “pressure” to have the machine hold the 120 film in place. Surprising how this essential button has been missed by many through the sands of time 😊 I work at Brighton Film Lab aka Colourstream and we still use an Agfa dlab for our main bulk work. It’s still one of the fastest machines around just limited by file size on the scans hence why we have the Fuji too. I’m usually putting in 3-5 density in on Fuji 35mm scans as it results in far cleaner shadows if anyone wants to brighten the image. The Agfa has rich and more balanced exposures just odd colour casts on some films.
I was wondering, what type of computer monitor do you use at the lab ? Is it 4k monitors ? And with what do you print 4x6 print ? I think i saw a fuji dx100 printer ?
I think you are just the idiots...
a great video, such a pity you scanned it, as you where in a darkroom, you could have just done a "contact print" and got an image then and there.
hahahah love watching u guys. top tier
Hello everyone. Since this video was made a lot has changed. The i-2 is metering perfectly now since the firmware update. I used to always under expose by 2/3 stop to get a correct exposure. Not anymore. Also the black and white film is amazing. I used to get a lot of cobwebs for want of a better description on the pics after development. Not any more.polaroid should have really ironed out the problems with this camera before release.
Only honest review on the RUclips:I has slr 680 and impulse and black white are very problematic whit fogged pictures and overexposure;this camera is shit;my photos are very better of this;i2 overexpose more of old cameras and has wrong long exposure time At 700 € and whit no replaceable battery is very not good to Buy
Video nicely done! I'll be in Berlin in October. Went straight to your website to look under "Workshops." Any workshops planned? I would really like to go out with someone for a day, with their 8x10 camera, take 4 shots (or so), and develop the negatives. This would be to see if I really want to go into 8x10. I have shot up to 5x7 on a monorail and a field camera. I develop in a Stearman SP810. Rented time in a darkroom to enlarge 5x7 to 11x14. If I shot 8x10 I could do contact prints at home.
Hello Austin what paper are you using? keep up the great work
your confidence and verbal fluidity for the camera disappear in the presence of your girlfriend lmao. can tell you're focusing very hard on your words. it's cute. great video though
Full lab tour next please
Love this! I buyed the same camera two days ago and a Kodak vision3 500t roll. So happy to find this video to see the future results
Great video! I worked with a bunch of different Frontiers over the years and it's really cool to see the difference between them and the Notitsus. When you're working through dozens and dozens of films you get really fast at using the density and colour keyboard and in switching the hard/soft highlight and shadow settings etc. I feel like the quality of film photography I see shard nowadays isn't as good as what we saw in the past and I think a large part of this is there aren't enough skilled lab operators like you guys who know how to drive these machines properly.
This camera should have been the Pentax 17. 😅
oo ibm model m keyboard
Amazing show guys! I have a lab to lab question here. How did you manage to get 5 minutes for XL scans on noritsu? We also have the HS1800 but it takes twice as long. The “scan” maybe is 7 min, but the writing of the files themselves take maybe 3 more minutes. What are your controller PC specs?
Very useful and interesting video. Have been considering switching to Noritsu from Frontier in recent years, but still can't tell if Noritsu gives a bit more shadow detail on a cheaper film, like Kodak Gold. Also, that magenta factor is not really for me, since the colors that Frontier gives have become an inseparable part of my work in the last 15 years.
Amzing video!
I will stick with my Mint SX 70.
Great to finally see someone showing the difference in changing the density. I see so many comments from people disappointed with their scans and blaming the camera where it is really just the laziness of the lab not to quickly bump the density by a couple of taps especially with flash or underexposed shots. The Frontier will default to a middle ground of trying to balance the whole scene which works for some shots in broad daylight but not for others.
That felt mat needs a clean. Really triggers me lol
❤️
And what’s crazy is that my DSLR beats them both.
If you got plenty of time to tweak one roll maybe but not in a commercial enviroment :)
but it costs you time to set up, remove dust, not to mention the editing time, so pros and cons!
Any recommendation on which machine is better when scanning Aerocolor IV/Santacolor? I’ve got about three rolls scanned at various places, the first time the colors were gorgeous and natural. The other couple of times the colors came out terribly red and I couldn’t get nice balanced colors no matter how hard I tried in Photoshop. Thanks.
Not doing color corrections during scanning is completely missing the point of color negative film and the Frontier system. Color neg is meant to be color corrected and interpreted. And because the Frontiers actually change how the RGB light exposes the sensor through the film, they need to be corrected to give the best bases for editing afterwards. Yes it does a basic balance and sometimes that’s enough, although that highly depends on the film. For most shots it won’t get the most out of the negs let alone be appropriate for the scene that was captured. Saying: “We let the film speak for itself” basically means, we’re trying to keep cost to such a minimum we’re willing to deliver subpar results. With today’s film prices, saving a few bucks to get uncorrected scans just isn’t worth it. You might as well be scanning on a bunch of Pakons instead of letting the potential of these Fronteirs go to waste. With a good, corrected lab scan you don’t need to do any editing because the image is great as it is. It also means that when you want to edit them, the file will be more flexible and has the right information for more intense editing.
So good! Thanks for the share and good to see you guys doing more content on RUclips, keep it up :)
lol “where are my film scans”, the most common question at labs across the world 😂
These guys have seen everything 😂
you have no idea...
I prefer the frontier output in color
Dude. This is a great idea.
literally just buy a pentax 645 no autofocus but it has all the other features of the contax (excluding removable backs and super high shutter speed).
Contax is just boring with it's correctness. Russian lens has beautiful bokeh, it's own character. Just buy a body in good condition (no leaks, and serviced) and a lens that suits you. And remaining money spend on cofee and films :)
Great content. I wish it was already available when I started taking analog photos. Nevertheless, in my case, I simply went to the shop and the guys there helped me out with everything I needed to know :)
This video is just a vlog of cool photographers hanging out, and I love this.
Digital Bros messing up as usual :P
You forgot to mention when loading 35mm film(mostly in an SLR) don't touch the shutter...please
Nice one Guys! Good one putting this together! Hope all is well :)
Amazing production guys! So happy to be your regular client ❤
Great video! Will you have döner kebab tee's online soon? Maybe make a curry wurst tee in middle grey bitte? Love from Florida
bester laden und gutes video!
Skip the rangeginders 😂❤
My Fuji GW 690 said passe auf to rangegrinder or really 気をつけて😂
Much, much, much respect!!!
rate at 500 is the best outcome imo
such a waste
Too short. You hardly showed the images to compare ,even at 1/2 speed. A side-by side would have been nice. Best wishes. . .
How is this mamiya vs contax when there is no mamiya glass? This isn;t clickbait, this is straight up fraud 😂😂
Wow! What that was a lot of learning from our side on the other hand that was a lot of work for one shot, but its an artist tool. Pretty intensive, Thank you for sharing and you are master of an 8x10 format. you explained very well. Awesome Thank you once again.
One has af the other not.. big differemce!!
Today we will be comparing a BMW covered in, and also partly crafted with, poop, and a factory model Porsche.
you can't be serious !!! start with a real Mamiya lens and a Mamiay 645 Pro TL and a pro photog the sharpest point of most lens two stops down . and this new era of photo bugs are more interested in a word that never existe BOKEH !! who cares about out of focus backgrounds (focus on the subjest!)
How do you wash the prints in the field?
