Thank you for sharing your videos I have an 8 1/2 month working cocker spaniel who is a pet, but he loves the rustling through the fields looking for rabbits or listening to the pheasants and sniffing them out. He wears an harness at the moment and from getting out of the front door a 15 minute walk to the fields he pulls like a steam train. We have tried the head collars and other halti to help control his pulling, I understand he is a working cocker and prey driven but I would love just to take that short walk to the fields for him not to pull before he is let off to go and explore.

Yes, they are pretty strong and try it on but you got to keep on keeping on. You think you've sussed it but they can frustrate you at times, all part of it. Engagement and patience.

Just found your youtube channel and website after having 8 Border collies over 40 years I am considering a Labrador Gun dog to train. My collie is 12 years old and I need the exercise walking and can think of no greater pleasure than walking and training a dog. So pleased I have found your channel in my research before getting a puppy.

Folk want a trained dog from day one, when you put the work in early on there’s nothing better than a Springer…and yes they also have their Tasmanian Devil (brilliant description) moments to get you to love them more😊

I have a Sp[roker he is awesome. People say Ohhhh John!! them dogs have ADHD!! what a load of crap. Obedient, trusting, playful. Ive played games with him from the off and he's very easy to train. Know the breed do ya homework. TOP DOGS...

The problem is, that people never research the breed of dog, before they buy it. I bought a cocker spaniel, fully aware of what they were bred for. I have 5 acres, have done basic obedience training, and she is a top little dog. Of course she's naughty, she's a dog. I have expected anything else from her. Unrealistic expectations is the main problem with people.

Ahh yes..choke the dog by pulling upwards. I can see the spaniel is having such a pleasurable walk this way.

My working cocker has perfect recall and I barely taught her anything. Making that separation anxiety work for us lol. She's 7 months now so we'll see if it trumps the teenage phase.

Just bought the 6mm one from you, now seeing this video and you say the 8mm one for a lab. Does it matter or am I ok using the 6mm with my lab?

I've always do something similar, but with a ball of grass, they see it being thrown, but they can't find it as it just blends into the grass it helps keep their nose down

This is extreme level of focus. Fantastic.

Including the two Springers I have at the moment, I have been lucky enough to own four. All have been lovely dogs. All have had their own characters and quirks. The one thing they have all shared, is that given a chance they are all crackers. Nice clip.

Where is the teaching bit?

Hi, love the video. I have a 1,5 year old lab and she’s naughty. Her recall is bad and I think it’s because we gave her too much freedom as a puppy. She got a bit too confident and isn’t focused on us. Would you recommend perfecting her heel and lead work before we take her to a long line or is this something I should be doing at the same time? Would love to hear some advice. Thanks!

Wow, you have articulated what I have seen and thought with my first ever Wocker. I cannot thank you enf for your experience and knowldeged. I made a mistake with my 9 month old and let her run amuck. Not really understanding what I created. I am working the last 6 months to help change the damage I did. I will continue to follow you and learn.

You have hit the nail on the head the bobby basic training is the most important part of the journey for any dog ! Personally I am a Lab man as not brave enough for Spaniels ??? If you encounter any problems further down the line on the shooting field it can usually be rectified by going back to the essential BASIC training ????

We need to get back to this method. We have a 4 year-old Mini Schnauzer with poor recall AND a bit of resource guarding! So, guess what he does? Runs off with a squeeky ball, (usually someone else's!) and plays silly beggars staying just out of our reach! 😏

What about a 2 1/2 year old cockapoo, when she gets a sent she is off.

Never used tennis balls myself, always hunted on gamey ground from the outset. Saves so many problems of dogs pulling on and not listening later on in their training.
