Evgeny Svetlanov conducts,The State Symphony Orchestra of the USSA,1985 エフゲーニ・スヴェトラーノフ指揮 ソビエト国立交響楽団 収録:1985年
how is this possible
Forget flight of the bumblebee, this is what I call speed
The orchestra did this so well and the conductor literally did nothing 😭 if he was my conductor for anything I would cry there nothing to follow
Some people said Wiener Philharmoniker is only best in Strauss Walter which is easy in New Year concert, but please watch this performance, speed is super fast and difficult notes but all musicians are so relaxed, cleared and enjoyable!
I understand that it’s Wiener Philharmoniker, the greatest in the world, but still the crisp of that run at 0:49 at THAT speed is just ridiculous
Omg, those flutists! They are incredible! Holy crap. This has to be one of the absolute hardest excerpts for flute that there is. Insane fingerings, rapid fire articulation, and oh! Remember those dynamics ;)
Absolutely superb!
Someone in our orchestra changed the flute part to be played on piccolo and it was worst prank. Everyone just went deaf after the concert 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The tempo is too fast. Did you speed it up for copyright reasons?
*cries in flutist
"All ships fire everything you have! Let the enemy commander taste hellfire!" Quote from Admiral Suzumiya H, on the battle of the Day of Sagittarius
Ideal tempo for me! This symphony is so young-spirit, rollicking, even a bit cheeky, exactly how composer was in real life, so this tempo express this mood in my opinion! 🌺🌺🌺🌺🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Svetlanov is the only one that comes close to matching Koussevitzky.
Absolutely BRILLIANT!!! I worked on the flute excerpts my first year in college. Daaaamn!!! Prokofiev either really loved us flutists or really hated us. Lol.
final theme to words " that big god damn bird is gone we're not going to die, yay! "
To the flutists in this video....DAMN! Hats off to you!
I just became exhausted after listening to this

4:32 Gergiev is the only one who does the tempo equivalence written in the 1911 (the rising chromatism leading to the barbaric chords of the full orchestra). Stravinsky probably noticed that this equivalence would have made the passage unplayable so that he "corrected" in the late versions of 1919 and 1945.
Flutes AND Oboes!!!
Honor to the Computer Society!
terrible tempo, poor flutes my fingers suffer and get knotted just by hearing
Lol gotta love gergiev
Utterly bonkers fast - love it!
very, very fast. hahahae.
Fast, but good conductor.
Playing this for marching band
We're playing this for our marching show
Man, this movement is RELENTLESS.
速っ。(; ̄Д ̄)
It's funny to be fast especially last part, but I like this symphony especially thismovement. I have played this. I feel passion.
Such a shame that they rushed this.
No more espresso for you, conductor.
But for me this tempo is IDEAL!))) I know how hard this movement to play, so big appreciation to orchestra! 😍😍😍😍
He doesn’t need any other stimulant than the love of the music. I love the expressions on his face, the way he jumps up and down and his hilarious hand movements. 😂😂.
He must have had a few lines imo.. double speed, and the orchestra nailed it
I agree 😂
So vivid and sensuous. Awesome Valery Gergiev!
Very impassionate. Great!
As a flute player just listening to the first flute part causes me physical pain...
chessicles99 ikr? they are using harmonic fingering for some of the runs though. Cant blame them with this tempo haha
chessicles99 2nd flute part is Literally just as difficult as the first
Titanandenceladus Yeah, its a play on each others parts to complete the sound/effect. What one doesn't do, the other is doing. Almost echos dancing around each other, at least during the stocatto part. I will say the first high D didn't ring like I would've liked :( Still a great performance that gives me anxiety haha
I would think the alternating thing is mostly just so that the flutes don't die? Otherwise they would just have 14 measures of that. I'm not really sure. It sounds like one flute in the recording, and it would be nasty if either part were expected to play that nonstop.
Yeah I actually noticed when I looked up the sheet music for both parts. I had to play an excerpt with the horrible D some time ago and didn't know the seconds were also expected to play it.
The guy looks rough and sweaty ! and an urgent need to discharge judging by his hand and face gestures !! Fabulous composition by Prokofiev but far too fast -this guy is late for his flight to wherever !
Typical over-rated Gergiev. He takes it so fast that even an orchestra like the VPO can't keep it together. Listen carefully and you will hear the lapses in ensembles. In places the intonation goes as well and this is principally due to the speed not allowing even brilliant players a smidge of time to correct it. These are not criticisms of the VPO but of Gergiev. When is the musical world going to realise Gergiev doesn't really have that much to offer except for an inflated ego?
+David Ashbridge Correct me if I'm wrong but are you hearing the lapses during the flute articulations at 00:17?
you must be fun at parties
David Ashbridge Sounds great to me, and exciting as was written. Where are the lapses?
"Come on lads the bus'll be here in 2 minutes" Fastest version I've heard so far.
Great concert '
Ça, c'est la musique que j'aine !
What wonderful music and technique..
I wonder-when composing this piece- if 26 years old Prokofiev was influenced by the events in Russia of 1917.
the conductor looks like he went out and got drunk and danced and got sweaty and then didn't shower for a week and came to the concert.
It is simple and pleasant. What it is? It is to be crazy, to give up using our reason.
I don't like it
