Tesla Cybertruck first impressions after driving around the Bay Area for the day!
I was fortunate enough to have a Tesla Cybertruck for the day and drove it around the Bay Area. I'll share some of my thoughts on the truck, some of the things I liked and some of the things I thought could be improved. Watch the light show at the end. Apologies for the atrocious production quality! Ask me anything about it in the comments :)

    I have an old RHC mortise box with thumb knob (for our bathroom), missing a bunch of internal parts such that the two knobs work to release the door, but the locking mechanism does not. Anyone here know of anyone in the business of re-building these? Preferably in the Oakland, CA area, but also willing to ship.

      The most helpful place I found was Ohmega Salvage in San Pablo Ave in Berkeley but I know they've since downsized. Your best bet is probably to find the missing parts or a similar lock on eBay and then take it to a locksmith if you don't want to give it a try yourself. That said I'm sure there are some places out there who you could ship it to.... If it's a smaller lock you might be able to find a replacement that would fit in its place but that wasn't really an option for me as it is a big front door.

    Betteridge says no. Hauling range is terrible, trunk access is terrible even if 2k lbs is a plus you’ll never fit it in that tiny bed which is also too small for a work truck. The bare stainless needs constant attention or it permanently stains and is high maintenance or it looks god awful which is not a customer friendly appearance. Basically it sucks as a work truck.

      It's difficult to say right now, the website says "Delivery in 2024" for some models but with a massive backlog of orders from when it was first announced it's hard to see how that could be true. There are reported to be between 1-2 million pre-orders, many of those will cancel as the price is significantly more than when it was announced. With a production capacity of around 125,000 at the Austin factory, it'll still likely take a few years to clear the backlog of existing orders to reach new orders... So if you order today, maybe in a couple of years if you're lucky?

    Thanks for the review. Light show impressive! Who do you think will be buying the Cybertruck? Seems it can do a few things well. If can add 6th seat in after market, will be popular.

    • @bayareabrit
      @bayareabrit 7 месяцев назад

      Honestly I think it'll be an eclectic group of buyers and with limited initial production there'll be a lot of Tesla fans just wanting something distinctive that makes a statement. The roomier interior is nice although like you say, a third seat upfront could really help with family appeal. It's working truck credentials seem to be as good if not a little better than any other out there but it's still not that affordable for the masses so maybe just one for the flashy contractors. I'm still down and with a 80k price tag and a federal tax credit it will be very appealing!

    Because it's an 800V battery and they have to do some things to charge on the 250KW chargers, the sweet spot is to charge up to 65-70% there from low. Ryan Shaw charged 2-50% in 19 min, 10-70% in 30min, he did a vid and posted results, but after 65-70%, the charge rate severely drops off. Unless you have home charging, I'd charge to 65% and go on road.

    Everything about that cylinder says Russwin. The adjustable cylinder length by screw on back of cylinder. The ball bearings as bottom tumbler pins, the keyway appears to be Russwin family. Much like the off-name of SAFE 194-WBL Night Latch, again, ball bearings as bottom tumblers, another subsidy of Corbin-Russwin family, sold in local hardware stores back when times were normal. Love these vintage locks. I would have done everything in my power to reuse original cylinder. I am sure you could have had a key (s) made for it. All under the Emhart family.

This seems crazy but that's how they are tested. Contact Strong Tie for any specification questions. They have an engineering department that can answer most questions and the service is free.

    Awesome video Francis, thanks for putting it together! Live in Richmond and looking to potentially do the retrofit myself. I was watching some videos and looks like Simpson's Strong Tie does these titan HD bolts that do not require epoxy - you just screw them in with a hex driver. Did you consider that at all? Would make things a lot easier and less messy if it does in fact work as a legitimate replacement.

    • @bayareabrit
      @bayareabrit 3 года назад

      Hi Shalav, awesome that you're taking on your retrofit. I had not considered titan HD hold downs and my engineered plans specifically required epoxy anchors. I'm not sure if the Plan set A allows for titan HDs but I suppose they could be a good alternative. Another consideration might be the condition of your concrete foundation, I imagine if it is more on the brittle side the non epoxy might not be as strong. The epoxy really wasn't difficult, the main issue for me was that the city required a special inspection for the epoxy anchors which cost $1000 to have someone just come out and watch! Anyway I'd check with your planning department if you're going down the permit route.

      No worries. I think if I could have found an engineer that did both the designs and special inspection that would have been preferable depending on price. The special inspection itself was very straightforward just a bit more logistics. The engineer I used didn't mention the need for special inspections, it would have been good to have known about them upfront. As for the amount saved, I imagine between 5-10k all included.
