    Mask is a mess. When recording my screen I have to edit out the browers bar at top. A little at the bottom and a little at the right side.There used to be options for Not keeping set aspect ratio. Now that doesn't seem to be a option. In your vid if you wanted to remove the arch ways on the right it used to be a lot easier. The square mask now if you move the right side in it also would move the left towards the dancing girl. The update just seemed to remove options not add new ones

      I have always hated moving one side and the other crops it's opposite. They're just trying to make the desktop version the same as the mobile version. It sucks! I am still unable to use the pan/zoom effectively. Being able to go back to a previous version in the update manager says it all really. I hope they get it together soon.

      Yeah, sorry about that. I tried every which way, even producing the effect and bringing it back in to no avail because it's an effect. There's always been something wrong with PD. It used to be small things that most users turned a blind eye on, but recently Cyberlink has been doubling down the problems their users are getting. Interestingly, I searched for 'Cyberlink' on Wikipedia, found the entry, and in the references section there's a link to an article titled 'Microsoft claims CyberLink has been breached by North Korean hackers'. Even though it allegedly happened in 2023, the whole company culture seems to be very relaxed and thus the business shouldn't be taken seriously I think. Time to move to another, more professional and client-respecting manufacturer. I won't be renewing the licence.

    yes, @dgibbsfl, like you i discovered cyberlink years ago and was thrilled that it was inexpensive and i could use it 'out of the box' without a lot of tutorial help (i do have a background in filmmaking which includes editing via computer, so that helped)... the biggest issue i have with cyberlink now is how horrible their support services is...! i had to chuckle at the reply @pmhelsinki showed - very similar to just one of many gibberish support replies i have received...😜 cyberlink started going downhill a while back but really has gone way downhill since they were hacked (2023 security breach attack by Lazarus Group) and a lot of their updates are crap like @pmhelsinki indicated... cyberlink needs to concentrate on making their core programs solid without a lot of confusion when it comes to the UI as @pmhelsinki shows... 👍 i will continue to use and subscribe to cyberlink but i will also continue to search for an alternative similar to the graphics program i use (and can afford) from affinity (a serif company located in england) - an excellent company and choice compared to the way overpriced and huge learning curve of adobe photoshop...!!

    You know....I had to make a conscious decision to go with the Cyberlink products several years ago and was happy with the decision for the most part up until they debuted the subscription platform and the knickle and dime extra charges for the AI stuff. The knickle and dime charges didn't bother me so much as I wasn't really interested in the fauxey AI stuff. But chasing all the tweaks to the UI and the mostly useless fizzles, overlays and poptarts along with a cataloging system (music, overlays, transition and on and on) that was a complete waste of time until this..... I have stayed away from the last update because I did not feel like starting over with the UI.....again. I have not watched this video in full yet but you confirmed from the outset that I made a good decision on how not to waste my time which has value and wasting it simply drives the cost of the software up. At this point I am thinking about dumping Cyberlink altogether.

      @@pmhelsinki I don't know how they can sort out at this point after going headlong off the deep end. They have an entire development platform tooled up at this point designed to knickle and dime the user base into oblivion. For me, I had to decide which platform to dedicate to, to refine my mechanics and workflow so I could pay the most attention to the creative side rather than endlessly fooling around with a changing UI and a resource cataloging system that handles something like Alfred E. Neuman designed. You can look that up.

    I agree with you so much. My biggest issue I've had for so long with Power director is the fucking lag! Rather than just optimizing the program so it runs better and smoother the assholes at cyberlink decided to change everything that was already fine. Over the years they've always removed certain tools, changed things nobody wanted changed. They keep choosing to ignore what people keep suggesting. I'm sick of it. The worst part is you can't even downgrade! If you want previous versions you better pray to god you did lifetime purchases or else better hope Amazon has it in stock. This company is garbage! The support is shit! The fucking software barely functions half the time without lagging on big projects! I have version 19 and I'm keeping and staying there. If anyone knows a magical way to make this thing not lag that would be fabulous! Cyberlink has pushed all of us to look for new software to use that's hard asf to use. God knows my brain struggles to use Davinci! I chose PD because it was easy, and I didn't need much for my editing. This is ridiculous. CL has chosen to waste people's time with these so called patches when they could have easily just deleted 2024 and just go back to 21 and fix the damn lag and crashing. This program has gone to shit. I apologize for my sailor mouth but it's annoying. What makes it worst is that PD was the best there is and now it's junk. I used to swear by this program....but now I cannot. Idk what the fuck is going on, but these companies need to stop taking advantage of people. If CL wanted money they should have just made their program more stable, make it look and feel more professional! I doubt they'll ever go back to what made PD easy to use for everyone. They've decided to go towards AI crap. Also...whatever anyone does, don't ever get version 21 from Steam! It's so buggy you can't even use it at all! It crashes so bad all the time.

    • @pmhelsinki

      If your project is made up of multiple large clips with many edits each, you may want to decrease the session size by creating a separate project for each large file, perform your edits, then merge the edited files from the separate projects into a new "master" project. This may help the lag. I chose PD after Corels VideoStudio chaos, now it seems PD is going the same way. Everytime a new update arrives it is always the UI. GDI!

    Let me start with... I have used PD for 10 years, but....... There emphasis, add-ons, subscription rate AND FAILURE TO LISTEN TO THE END USER IS PATHETIC. We don't need 10 more Japanese fonts, nor all the junk stickers, constantly messing with the interface, emphasis on social media and on and on make it a major pain.

      I hear you, those stickers are so childish. What made me laugh was that you have to buy credits to use their AI anim stuff! PMSL.

      Better yet, we don't need patches! This program never needed patches! They keep patching things that wasn't even broken in the first place! They need to go back to the old UI.

    By design, PD does not have potential to develop. They tweak the interface just give us the impression of some progress and keeping up with other manufacturers' software. One website classified PD as a program primarily suited for creating tutorials and not much else, really. Rightly so.

      I agree, it used to be good for beginners but now with the stupid updates it seems they want to go only to the mobile version. Such a shame.

      @@pmhelsinki And with the quite ridiculous number of Asia-oriented pop-ups and overlays it looks like they aim at young Asian users. Have they realised they stand no chance in competing other video editing software developers? I have a feeling they will soon advertise as a great platform for TIk-Tok shorts creators. Anyway, Harvey, I do appreciate your content. Thank you.

    Fun idea! I just finished a project where I used several freeze-frames to transition from one video scene to another. I used a simple fade so that the freeze-frame fades as the new clip begins. My only sad discovery was that PowerDirector's built-in "Freeze-Frame" function inserts the snapshot into a gap. If you have audio, this results a a silence. Pretty useless IMHO.

    Personally I find it so much better and far more flexible to create and use a fx track rather than drop an Effect directly onto a Video track

    • @pmhelsinki
      @pmhelsinki 25 дней назад

      I like the fx track also, however when I have upto 9 tracks with all kinds of things happening the fx track applies upwards so it gets in the way sometimes. This was a way for a quick play with the magnify. Although I have to say that it doesn't work very well when you get to the edge of the screen. Enjoy your day. Harvey.

    Thanks for another great tutorial. Took me about five hours to get a handle on your 30 minute episode. But I did learn a lot about the various buttons. One thing I can't get my head around is how to adjust a selection once it's been made. When I selected the windows I realised I was a bit out but couldn't move or adjust the selection. Thank goodness for Ctrl+Z. Am I missing something? Or is it something that needs to be done in the edit section of Photo Director? Also, do you have a "Join" function on your YT page? I really appreciate the depth of your tutorials and can see they take up much of your time.

    • @pmhelsinki
      @pmhelsinki Месяц назад

      Hello Tony. Thanks for the comment. OK, selections once made can be adjusted with the second tool down from the top right the move tool and then you can resize. While making selections if you go a bit wrong just go to the right under the brush area and choose the minus sign and remove the selection that is wrong reclick the plus sign and redo it. You can also do one selection at a time on its own layer and when you have everything ok, just select them all and merge them. As for a 'join' button I don't have one, I am not that popular,. I wll give it some thought. Enjoy your day.
