The Whimsical Woodworker
Добавлен 15 мар 2013
There is a vacuum of knowledge in today’s generation when it comes to working with your hands. Wether it be to work with your hands to make a living or to make your next family heirloom, these skills are necessary. The goal of this channel is to upload videos that are focused on doing things other than store bought packages. There will be more focus on woodworking but will also include homeowner/handy man guides also.

Installing my INCRA fence on Grizzly table saw.
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.2 года назад
Hopefully the fence is here to stay on this saw. I’ve had a few different saws, continuously trading up. This new saw is a 5hp saw I bought in inoperable condition. I got the issues resolved, added a mobile base, and today we add my INCRA fence system and router table.

Sanding trick for Pinewood Derby cars
Ok, but how do you configure it in mach3? Is there an option to square the gantry there?
2mm distance tolerance is huge. I think mine is set to 0.001", i e. 0.025mm. Mind you, I'm machining metal, not wood, but still.
Hello. Are you still using the same settings? I´m machining aluminium and I don´t know what values to use. Thanks.
Oh..man...I was thinking the same way...! But I was not sure about it..! You did it..! Now Im confident..! Thank you man..!
That tape isnt any good an6 more. Letting it go like that pulls it out of wack. Now he'dvhave toburn an inch to get it accurate
This is very helpful thanks! I always wondered how to make my cnc cut similar to spendy machines like thermwood. They always nearly stop at angle cuts, and seemed to not be as jerky as most cncs. Exact stop seems to be what theirs are setup with
Gracias!!!
Finally a great visual explanation! Thank you so much!
You can take the spark plug out with out taking all the stuff he took off by the side
I'm thinking of taking my 1970s camper apart and using the base for a hauling trailer to load logs. I'm glad I seen this video. Gives me some ideas. I'll probably use Hickory boards for the flooring. Abd maybe put up some sides for when I'm just hauling 16 inch long logs for splitting wood, but also have the trailer for loading logs. It's a 28 ft camper, so I'll probably have to shorten the base a little bit. I liked the lift on the back. That was a pretty good idea also. People in general certainly don't invest money wisely enough. Building things like this to help with loading logs, would definitely be the type of investing to make life a little more easy...
I only like videos that show the finished product. please show that massive cake topper on the cake
Maybe next time!
considering all the machines in your huge workshop, you need go buy a microphone so we can hear you better.
Great video and info. The oramask worked perfect. What product do you use to clean off the sticky stuff left over after peeling the oramask off?
No residue with oramask in my experience
This is jullshit
I could not tell, but that looks like a Freud 99-762 shaker R&S bit set, something I was looking at as an alternative to the Rockler set (that does not have the micro adjustment feature for thinner than standard width plywood panels). May I ask how it has held up to use? Any issues with it dulling fast? What type of wood do you generally cut it with? I usually use oak or poplar myself.
СооL Такую же хочу купить, но где я живу она не продается, надо заказывать Мне надо брус 200*200 распиливать вдоль
Have you used these bits with a painted project? I’m going to use 1/4” ply for my panels and I’ve heard that these bits a just a hair to big at its closet adjustment.
The fit was perfect. Our doors are all painted.
@@TheWhimsicalWoodworker I finally got his bit and the fit is good but I only got 2 rails in and it started chipping out my profile in random places. It’s maple and I tried shallow passes but it only helped a little. I’d hate to think I have to sharpen these after only a few passes.
Regular super glue is soooo much cheaper and works just as good.
Look at the lens of the camera instead of the display screen. That way you're looking directly at your audience.
Do you cut on the line? Or outside the line ? Thanks Chris
Outside
@TheWhimsicalWoodworker That's why. I was cutting an interlocking project on the line. Thank you. 🙂
Looks good! You're ready for our temps of 29 degrees tonight, first good frost/freeze of the year. Keep the videos coming!
Thanks for this. I'm thinking to get an incra table saw fence. Was going to ask you how you like the Incra, but evidently you like it enough to put it on your next saw! Anything you can tell me about it? Worth the price? etc.? Thanks again.
I got mine used on another table saw for about the price of the incra system. So this is the third saw I’ve put it on. I love it. It’s not as smooth and quick as a t fence but the accuracy makes up for that, in my opinion
@@TheWhimsicalWoodworker Many thanks.
Amigo buenas noches me puedes regar las medidas de esta sierra su caja
I think u did a great job to lift a log that size I’m impressed
Thanks! Still works great!
Bad camera angles at times blocked critical shots.
Thanks for your input. I’ll try better next tjme
@@TheWhimsicalWoodworker But your content was excellent otherwise! Thanks.
Did u need outriggers under the trailer
I did put jacks on the tail of the trailer. I would say it’s a must for heavy logs
clickbait. "You'll never use a router sled again! If you can afford a multi-thousand dollar CNC machine to replace it!". There you go, fixed the title.
Thanks!
Just another added expenses, much cheaper to use cam clamps.
Dude u do not have to take off plastic to change plugs check it out
Good note! Guess I should have titled the video, “how I diagnosed” I’m not a pro, I just fumble my way through it and share my experience.
Does the table saw motor door interfere with the router? Looks like once the router is in place you wouldn’t be able to open the door.
The router lift pops right out of the table. Only sits there with gravity, should I need to pull it out to get to the motor door
I love the idea you have for straightening boards! Now you’ve used that power feeder for a while, how do you like it?
It works ok. For what I use it for, it may be a touch under powered. But since I rarely use it, it’s not worth having something more significant. We ended up putting it on a mag base which really makes adjustments handy. Before best results, your wood needs to be as dust free and smooth as possible
@@TheWhimsicalWoodworker I think it’s genius. Jointing a bunch of lumber can sure get time consuming and a straight line saw is pricey for most. Thanks again for the idea.
Need more volume, can't hear your instructions???
Thanks! Working to find a mic that works well. Currently recording everything on an iPhone
Cool, new subscriber.
What the hell
Nice set up you've got. You'll enjoy using the power feeder it's a great accessory to have for your shaper. Tony
In the video there is a glimpse of a cut where the outside cut looked correct BUT the inside cut line has cut the corners off. This is the exact problem I’m looking to fix. Any ideas how??
It's funny 150 years ago they built some of the strongest buildings and now our wood is weaker. But you done great Tyler not knocking you.
Matt’s Great Knows his stuff 👍
А какой вариант был максимально похож на модель???
Exact . The first one
Great channel! Keep uploading! Oh by the way, have a look at PromoSM. It’s a handy tool to have when you’re trying to grow your social media, RUclips videos, website etc!!
Hey Tyler...Thank you for taking the time to post this video. What is the moisture content of your hardwoods air drying them outside before stacking in your attic? I have a couple stacks of red oak that have been drying outside for a little over a year that is at 19% MC. Was thinking of moving it to the attic space above my shop to speed up the drying process. I live in middle georgia and the temps in my shop attic in the summer generally hit between 110 - 120 degrees in the summer afternoons. Do you have any problems with your hardwoods drying to quickly and getting severe checking on the ends?
Yes, I would try to get them a bit dryer before putting them in the kiln. Try covering them to keep the rain off. With it being so humid down here that sometimes extends drying time. Keeping air moving over them also helps. I would not put hardwoods in the kiln/attic if they were at 19. Maybe more like 12-13
@@TheWhimsicalWoodworker The stacks are in the shade and sticked with 1x2's and covered with corrugated tin sheets. So as a newbie woodworker my question is...if the "annual average relative humidity" for my area is 71% which according to a chart of MC by relative humidity is approx. 13%, is that the lowest percentage I can expect my red oak slabs to air dry outside no matter how long I leave it outside to dry?
@@BigSidtrous it’s pretty subjective. I’m in middle ga too, during humid summers, it’s almost like the brakes get put on air drying
"Never use a miter box again!" Owns miter saw
Seems like the same difference obtained by using G64 instead of G61 instructions before your cutting instructions in the G-code. (Maybe the Mach3 interface is doing just that?)
I believe G64 Turns on CV Mode, and G61 Turns on Exact Stop Mode. so yes, the results should be similar
Finally someone that explains things that a person that's not an electrical engineer can understand.
Are you using a Mach3 controller?
Yes
Did you have to edit ref all button script
Vinal sticky roll work good to
I did it myself. I used Woodglut woodworking plans for this.
6:30.. Good Lord it's a CNC. Lol. We know this. Lol. Great if you have one.
Lmao I can't spell I have other people double checking my spelling
I've seen people use blue painters tape. Wouldn't that be cheaper than Oramask?
It can work, however I prefer oramask. It sticks a bit better and in the long run, is likely about the same price as oramask
