Thanks this was helpful. What percentage of your time would you say is "screen work" e.g. report writing versus other tasks e.g lab work. THank you
I would say it is probably about 40% lab work and a 60% time on the screen. You do have to look at your lab values and then enter them into the medical record. I think it is a pretty good balance. Hopefully this was helpful!
Is there any things on RUclips to practice the epic system. If you know Epic is the system used by some hospitals to keep patients records. I don't know if you use the same in your job.
This was a great question. I did see there are a few videos regarding epic, but I’m not sure how in-depth they go into learning the system. You are correct of the majority of hospitals are starting to use epic and it’s becoming more widespread throughout hospital systems. I have used epic in the past. I believe it is pretty user-friendly and very easy to navigate. I didn’t get too much training on it, but I feel like it was pretty self-explanatory, will you be using it for job?
Yeah,I just started a new job recently.
@@teweldenegusse1345 what are you going to be doing in your job?
Generalist
Congratulations on getting the position! I wouldn’t worry too much about studying on your own. That’s what you’re getting paid to do and most labs don’t have a set training time. They want you to learn at your own pace.
I’m going to MLS school right now but have definitely considered continuing onto PA school! I just think it might get lonely in the lab and I love working with people. We’ll have to see where the future takes me! Best wishes in PA School ❤
That’s very exciting! I hope you enjoy your time in the MLS program. I went by super fast for me and I definitely did enjoy my time! I think the lab is very good if you’re more of an introverted person and don’t like interacting with people. I’m definitely a mix of introverted and extroverted so for me I liked the lab initially but then it did get very lonely and boring. I definitely enjoy more patient interaction. Which is why I decided to apply to PA school. I definitely want to talk about the journey that took me to get there as well as more MLS stuff a lot of it does relate to each other. I would definitely consider working as an MLS first for at least a year to see how you like it and then if you feel like you missed that interaction with people, then definitely take the time to apply to PA school! I wish you the best and thank you so so much ❤️
Also two if you’re even just slightly considering PA school I would definitely try to make sure you get in all the prerequisites now while you are an undergrad. If you’re not working a part-time job, I would definitely try to recommend getting a medical assistant job or a CNA job while you are in college. I had to take some time after undergrad to work a job with more patient care experience since a lot of schools don’t fully count MLS as one of those unless you are actually interacting with patients. do some research. I’m not sure what year you are in school honestly don’t waste that time that you have right now and try to make the most of it so you can apply to pa school if that’s what you desire! ❤️😊
Did you ever retake the MLT exam
I’m planning to take a video talking about this!
Keep an eye out for:)
Hey guide me what book i used for ASCPi MLS exam ?
That is a good question! I’ll do some research:)
Great video ❤

What country are you from?I am from South Africa and im doing research on the opportunities i can get when i pursue this career
Hello! I am in the United States. Are you interested in pursuing this career in South Africa?
@@RosaPerez no I don't plan on staying in South Africa. I plan to move to Europe.
@@saliediditagain that is exciting! I am not too sure how this career path works in Europe but Google will be a great resource! I would also look at jobs that are in Europe. A lot of times the job descriptions will let you know what you need in order to get a job in that field. I hope this is helpful!
Hi Rosa. I will be entering USA through a spousal visa. I am a CLS too but I have no experience....will it be hard for me to find a job in Nevada?
Hello! Are you saying that you do not have experience in the United States working as a CLS? I am honestly not too sure you may have to start a different type of position before work as a CLS again. I’m not sure what country are from but that is something you would have to do more research on the jobs in Nevada.
@@RosaPerez thanks for the response Rosa. I am saying, I dont have any work experience as a CLS in the Philippines. Since the pay was a bit better as an ESL teacher, I became an ESL teacher after graduation.
@@janadumandan248 OK I understand now thank you for clarifying that. You may have to start off as a laboratory assistant and you might be able to work your way up that way since you haven’t had any experience working as a CLS previously. It would be a good idea to look at jobs that are posted online kind of see what they require as well and maybe talking to someone in the laboratoryas the laboratory manager. I hope this is helpful to you.
@@RosaPerez Thanks again for the response Rosa...your vlogs are very helpful.I'm the type who easily gets worried..so its nice to know what I might be getting myself into...
Dream job❤
Very exciting you can do it! 😇
I want to volunteer at the hospital but i also want to see if i can get a research position or an internship at the hospital because i am a high school student interested in pre-med. Do you have any advice?
I would try to do both. You are in an amazing spot since you are starting very early. Hospital you can work 4 hours a week during the school week or weekend. Whichever is easier for you. Both will make you very well rounded. Sure it is a lot to handle but honestly high school is way easier than college so I would take the opportunities that you can get now. Your college coursework might not allow you to have as much time to volunteer do research. Depending on how heavy your courses are. Premed is hard, but you’re starting early and you can definitely do it.
Hi Which book is very helpful for ASCP exam preparation??
Many people recommended Patsy’s book! I have it myself I might be considering doing a video and doing a giveaway for that book. Last time I got it on it was about $90.
How to get jon in mlt after passing ASCP exam ?
So for route 2 , if you have a bachelors in biology and done labs like organic chemistry, molecular cellular biology, microbiology and general chemistry and biology, there’s no need to go through with the ASCP courses? I can go ahead a take the board test. ? I’ve been so confused.
ahhh thank you so much for this!! I quite literally just applied for a pharm tech job at walgreens yesterday and I already have an interview scheduled for tomorrow morning. crossing my fingers!! 💕🤞🏾
That is so great to hear! How did your interview go?! 🤗
I hope you were able to get the job as a pharmacy technician! 😇💕
❤❤❤❤
😇
Can a certified lab assistant get this kind of job?
I think it would be possible!
Gosh your hot
Well could you assist me for how to apply for technician certificate
There’s several ways to go about it. What state do you live in? That would determine how you should proceed.
I applied to volunteer at a local hospital and I don’t know what to do after. Do I wait for an email back or should I email them for a response?
@@priscilla___7203 Hi there! How long ago did you apply?
@@RosaPerez Hii! I applied like 1 or 2 days ago and I don’t know how long I’m supposed to wait. Btw I’m 16 and I applied for floor care and I’m not sure if it’s appropriate for my age because it involves being around the staff How long did you have to wait?
I would give it a full week just because maybe they are reviewing your application. I do recommend calling it shows that you’re interested but I would wait that long to give them a call. It really just depends on the hospital and how much they are for volunteers. At the hospital, I volunteered that I think it took a few weeks to hear back. Another one I applied at, but didn’t end up volunteering. I think took about a month. If you’re looking for something sometimes there are free clinics that can help volunteer as well. Give pretty good volunteer experience as well. I never got the opportunity to volunteer at a free clinic, but I know they are always in the need of volunteers as well.
I did an interview at a hospital where they were looking for a generalist, but when I visited it, they only had chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and coag. No BB, micro, and immuno.
Every lab is different and they may not have every department. They may send their samples to specialty labs.
How did your interview go?
Yes,but if they don't have every department, after sometime I'm gonna forget about the departments that are missing.
Yeah, that’s possible. You can always find a job that has everything. It’s really what you are looking for in a job.
I failed in my first interview, but I didn't like the hospital either, I just went to get some experience.
How do you know you failed your first interview?
Well, they didn't hire me and they sent me a message saying that "we apologize blah blah but we are not going any further about your application". My response" ok thank you for your time".
Do you have any idea why you might’ve not gotten hired?
Experience really matters for employers to hire employees. The hospital where I did my rotation gave me a job offer, but I wasn't ready to start working straight after graduation and I denied it. I think most people do their internships in the hospital where they want to work and they get hired easily. Now I find a job in another state and I have to move next week.
I think it really depends on the employer. I also had a job offer from my clinical site and I denied it as well.
What do they teach in the trainig ?? Is it hard or simple stuff
They teach you how to accession the samples into the laboratory information system. It tells the doctors and nurses about patient lab results.
At first it can be a little challenging if you have no prior exposure to the lab but like with any job it does get easier!
@@RosaPerez any tips for job interview? It's my first time and I'm nervous
@@badbella1785 make sure to research details of the job you will be doing. It will show you are interested and are excited about the position. Be yourself and try to ask questions after they complete your interview.
Best of luck please let us know how things go!
Hi, is lab specimen processor something like a lab prn?
It could be a PRN position but it is not specifically that. You put the specimens that come in into the computer system and may have to do other things such as aliquot the samples.
Anyone from Walgreens can you tell me what the starting pay is for first hired with no experience?, then does that increase after you are certified?
I am not certain what the starting pay is now as every state is different. You can look at job listings to see how much they are offering at this time. The pay does co-op depending on good reviews as well as if you got your pharmacy technician certification. Hopefully this helps! it’s just going to vary on a lot of different factors.
Are you still a pharmacy tech? How is it going?
Hello! I actually stopped working as a pharmacy technician in 2020.
I do have more questions for you, what do they ask in the job interview and how to answer the questions
Hello, I believe I have an interview on the job interview for this and what kind of questions I asked. If I don’t let me know, but I’m pretty certain I do.
I have completed my BS in microbiology I have 5 years of experience Can I apply for Ascpi MLS? From Pakistan

I have an interview tomorrow, I hope I get hired since I’ve been eyeing this position for a hot minute lol also I know this is an older videos but can you tell me where you got your lashes from? They’re so pretty! 💕
Thanks for checking on my channel! How did your interview go? I believe I got my eyelashes from Walgreens. They always have a lot and they’re usually on sale. :)
@@RosaPerez Hi hi! It went super well, I got hired on the spot lol Tysm for responding back! I’ll check them out 🥰
That is so great. I am so glad you got hired on on the spot! That usually is very rare so you must’ve done really good! Know that in the beginning, everything is going to be overwhelming, but just ask as many questions you can you’re not going to seem like you’re annoying they know that you’re just trying to learn. Try to be civil or become friends with coworkers and learn as much as you can ☺️ now that you work, the pharmacy you’ll get a discount on lashes so I would definitely wait until you get your employee discount!! best of luck and please keep me updated how things are going 😊😇
You’re welcome. I’m so glad my video was able to help you out.! ♥️
What do you like better? Lab tech or pharmacy?
I honestly think I like the lab a little bit better just because it was a little bit more calmer, and it was better pay.
@@RosaPerez Do you have videos about it?

Good luck!! How did your interview go?!
@@RosaPerez good! i got the job and im really nervous working in the pharmacy setting lol!
That’s exciting! Are you still working at the pharmacy and if you are, how is it going?
@@RosaPerez Yes I am!:) I just finished my training modules, although training wasn’t exactly fun, I was only psychically trained twice, once by my actual training coordinator and once by a girl who’s been working there for 2 weeks so the training was awful, especially since I’ve never worked in a pharmacy setting before. I am still learning how to work the RXconnect system on the computers and all the keyboard combinations are so confusing to me but I had work today and I did RTS and production and it was really fun to me, I can do those easily with no issues and I enjoy them:) I was also not ready for the specific customers i encounter, but so far I enjoy it :)
I just passed the PTCE a few days ago. I only studied for around 2 weeks. I don't have any experience working as a pharmacy technician. I studied an online course. Good luck to everyone who's about to take the exam!

There’s nothing wrong with changing careers. I have a bachelors in Nursing and bedside is something I didn’t want to do for years . I’m thinking about doing case management but right now I’m taking my time to really think about what I would like to transition to . I can’t wait to watch your journey. And plus we’re young so there’s nothing wrong with what you’re doing.

How were you able to get that job without the MLS certification?
They did not require it. Some labs that are not hospital labs do not.
This is so much less worse than my experience at H&M lord . But I also think that leaving late thing I do that at H&M & it’s because the managers do it on purpose . Some don’t so it depends .
How was your experience at H&M? I never liked leaving late. One of them would always do it on purpose.
It's actually 1700 x 52 weeks = 88,440 per year. 7,366.66 per month.
Thank you!
