    Great video, it’s a shame I discovered it so late! Only thing I have to say is that I don’t agree with a couple of the comments made throughout about the various monologues Steve-O gives, where y’all say it just “doesn’t make any sense” and write it off. Especially in the mall scene, where I think it is apparent what he’s trying to say. He isn’t saying UK punk isn’t “real punk”, he’s saying that the two are separate, and it doesn’t make any sense for American punks to celebrate British punk, because it’s about different rules and a different system in a different country. Just thought I’d point that out, besides that terrific vid

    • @colehammill9117
      @colehammill9117 4 дня назад

      Another thing too is that Mike is really The Most Punk. It’s obvious that he isn’t in it for the fashion, or the music, but he’s a crazy and protective dude, like you guys said. He says what he means and he means what he says. If there’s a guy that is the epitome of “put your money where your mouth is”, it’d be him. It’s most demonstrated when he leaves, citing that he needs to protect the trees and slams his fist into the table in red hot rage. I’ve MET guys like him, and they are all hardcore idealists who absolutely believe in punk with their whole heart. Super real dude, can’t get enough of those kind of guys, even if they end up in a grave before you do

    i’m wondering if we even watched the same movie. I didn’t even think it was 2 hours when i watched it and then i watched it again and i realized it’s over 90 mins. I think clearly this movie wasn’t for y’all. The original is just antisemitism propoganda, this one is spinning things for Ellen to be the protagonist. I really don’t think you understood the overlaying theme nor was it really for you, which is fine. But also the Willem defoe dick riding was a bit much 😅It’s very different from the original. There are actually very real problems with the plot/timing that y’all really don’t even mention…? I respect your opinions, but i do not agree with them.

    I think I had a similar reaction to what was described here. I enjoyed it overall, but I don't think I'll be watching it again. There is no doubt that it was well-acted, and Eggers is an incredibly talented filmmaker.

    Out of all the Hannibal films, I'd place Manhunter 2nd. I just watched it two nights ago. While I don't think it's as good as Silence of the Lambs, I liked it more than any of the films after 1991.

  • @MegaIkedog
    @MegaIkedog Месяц назад

    I liked the first act of Late Night with the Devil. I hated the last act, where, like in You'll Never Find Me, it turns into a trippy 15 minute sequence of the main character going crazy, only to find out they were the killer. I think that Ghostwatch (1992) and The WNUF Halloween Special both did a much better job of passing off a fictional story as authentic. The fact that Late Night used AI for the cutaway graphics is extremely disappointing and lazy, when so many other aspects of production design like costumes and lighting take so much work and were done so well.

  • @MegaIkedog
    @MegaIkedog Месяц назад

    Dark Night of the Scarecrow and Night of the Demons are great! They're filled with Halloween decorations, tropes, and are genuinely scary. I love that Night of the Demons uses the same "evil force" camera work from Evil Dead. And when Angela is gliding down the hallways, it reminded me of the hag gliding in House on Haunted Hill. Satan's Little Helper was astoundingly bad, but I couldn't turn it off. I like that they never reveal if Satan was real or just some guy in a costume. The film has the most annoying kid ever!

  • @idontevenknow9758
    @idontevenknow9758 Месяц назад

    I think why I liked this movie so much was because found footage films are so easy to mess up. There was a great deal they got right and wrong but for me the camera angles and tension are spot on. The best part for me was usurping expectations. Most found footage films are only with a few people and they are isolated. The big moment happened when the entire town was there. The place was packed, loud, and the exact opposite setting of how these movies usually go. I was greatly impressed by that risk and while not perfect I loved how they ironed that out and made that moment so confusing that of course people would be confused because its a haunted house. So anything the folks saw they would assume are weird props nothing sinister. Its genius.

It was fun though. The Substance was... everything bad people had to say about Death Becomes Her. Im no wordsmith but it felt like they had a cool idea and went nowhere with it. This is interesting because I (Reid) just watched Death Becomes Her after I saw The Substance, and I really disliked it. I found it incredibly grating and that everyone involved somehow turned in a bad performance (which is crazy given the cast). However, it’s a completely different vibe despite having similar themes, so I’m not shocked those two films would be divisive when compared to one another.

    I think my biggest frustration with this movie is that it feels like they would start to go down a path and then not walk all the way down it. And I don’t know if that’s intentional, if they didn’t know what to do with some of these ideas, or if they were afraid of pushing them too far. But this feels very much like just the middle of a story with no beginning and no end (at least in terms of “Aaron’s” story) and I’ve always hated movies like that. I really wanted more from his psychology here. Movie one was about how he did his thing. Movie two should have been about why he does his thing. It’s clear he’s not satisfied by killing any more, and Sarah doesn’t really seem like she’ll scratch the itch either, but we don’t get an exploration of why and what would satisfy him so it all feels a bit pointless to me.

    Loved the reaction guys!! Loved your humor+commentary!! Loved the fashions i.e 🐉 robe+💛coat. Glad the algorithm did its thing to stumble across your channel. Deliciously disgusting this film is! It has style+substance🧪💉A social commentary on aging with body horror elements using practical effects, impeccable sound+editing. No amount of change will ever be enough to appease everyone much less undeserving, misogynistic men who do not actually appreciate women for who they are, but only how fckable they deem women to be. Sue represents the younger version of Elisabeth, still impressionable, full of faux confidence bc the patriarchy has beholden a woman’s value to beauty and youth, still fertile. Elisabeth chases her youth in the form of Sue much like someone that keeps running back to the plastic surgeon’s office. And there are consequences bc one begins to stray so far from their original appearance, dare I say monstrous. The greatest tenderness the character gives herself is when ElisaSue emerges and the greatest vacation she gives herself is the absence of a body for judgment. Just a mere amoeba with Elisabeth as the nucleus of the cell. The violence we put ourselves through comparing ourselves to our own younger version of ourselves when we look at pics of us a decade ago. We must be kinder to ourselves. I like that her yellow coat symbolized the egg in the beginning and then we see Sue wearing the coat to emphasize they are one post injection. *Outward beauty, but inner ugliness to thyself. The enemy is the inner me🩷🩷

    What about the male nurse that passed along the substance flash drive…him birthing a younger version of himself too…Would you say there’s a father/son dynamic in the same way?? Genuine curiosity as an out gay man

    • @greencornerfilm
      @greencornerfilm 2 месяца назад

      Another commenter pointed this out as well and it’s interesting to think about. Clearly, in-universe, men can have the same experience with the substance as woman. I’m sure you could come up with a story between men and the substance that mirrors the father / son dynamic. However, I still believe the film is painting a uniquely female perspective, playing on the male gaze and female desirability in holllywood. It was very intentionally centred around women, and I think a story focused around men + the substance would be a very different movie.

    I love this movie. It's something that Tarantino wish could make but because of the sensitivity of the topic it had to be made by a woman. This is an important piece of work, not only for entertainment but also movie making, story telling, social dysfunction, gender politics, body shaming, elder abuse, self gratification, misogyny, vanity, human behaviour etc etc. I think this movie has so many layers and tackles so much taboo topics in your face confronting. That's why we enjoy it. This is normally censored, cancelled real world problems we are told not to speak openly about in western society but this movie dares and challenges our thoughts.

It’s giving me distinct ‘Death Becomes Her’ vibes to me, although obviously that one was in the comedic presentation and this one seems more straight!! It's intentionally muddled to emphasize the increasing personality split but they DO share memories. At least until the attempted termination there is only one center of consciousness that switches between bodies. That's very clear from the script but there are also subtle confirmations of this in the film that I talk about in my own Sunstance analysis.

      It was great how the substance seemed like a real product you’d see advertised online, right down to the slick packaging.
