    Hi I am interested to know how much running is done in the 3 weeks basic training? I've never been a runner so it does concern me.

    • @outperformfitness
      @outperformfitness 11 дней назад

      there's not a lot of PT during the 3 week course but in saying that there will be running. The entry test to get in involves a beep test then when you are serving you must pass a Basic Fitness Assessment (BFA) every 12 months for reservists which involves a 2.4k run. Outside of that, running is a very basic skill for a tactical professional so it'd benefit you a lot by starting to work on it

    Whem I went in back in 1999, them three jobs listings, what a crock I had 1: Infantry 2: Armour 3: Gun Number, then they told me we have Medic, pay clerk and other ones. So I was pissed but it is what it is the during trade training I was able to Corps Transfer to Armour and happy days. So whatever jobs the are in critical in they will tell you that BS that it isn't available so they will do that to you, and with the psych testing they pulled me up on a question about have you ever thought of jumping off a building etc something like that so I said no, and they expanded on that a bit more. Dam looking at the comments here so many chocos not regulars. Haha I bet you are making you bed at home like you did a Kappoka??? Haha we've all done it mate. Far out - Hallway 12 was mine, Death by Powerpoint omg how can you not sleep through it all. Well that sucks not having your march out at Kapooka bro coz its a way better feeling of achievement so that really suck for you chocos. Another tip if your going in as a full timer make sure your fit for deployment, I say that because there's some cats that end up slacking off and and don't pass their AIRN testing.

    Im thinking of being a choc in a non combat role in the airforce. I lift weights every second night and for the past 5 months have worked my cardio so I can comfortably run for 10 minutes at 10kph, I reckon I’ll be fine for the airforces 6.1 shuttle run 👌But naturally I’m still stressed.

    • @outperformfitness
      @outperformfitness 22 дня назад

      Easy way to reduce the stress is to actually do a beep test and see where you are at. This way you will know if you can pass or not rather than guessing

I just did a test run tonight (for the first time in 10 years), and my first run was 5.8 (to be fair) then I rested for 5 minutes and had another crack at it and got 6.1, only making a mistake at 6.2. So If I actually pushed myself and got my turns down pat I reckon I could get to the 7 onwards.

    Hi Guys, Great Insite to going through basic training and leadup preparation. It takes me back to when I joined in 1984. I’m not sure how long basic is now but for us it was 82 days of culture shock from the moment you are screamed at to get off the bus and stand on a white dot and from there they just broke you all down as a group and then built you up a lean mean fighting machine TEAM. It sounds like basic training is still the same and I know there are diehard’s that will say it was a lot tougher when they went through but its only as tough as the society you lived in at that time. It is still physically and mentally challenging, and as a group your all still punished for some unwritten law you didn’t know about etc. The first time you hear the band strike up and you start to march to the tune is an amazing feeling, you stand that little bit taller and realise you are part of something bigger. I recommend if you have the slightest inclination to join, then just do it or it will eat you up for years. I went on to enjoy 32 years of service full of many highs and a few very lows, but your mates are there to ride it out with you. I am still in touch with some of my fellow Kapooka recruits (mates for life).

      The career choices are unlimited really so even if you get sick of a certain job you can transfer to another or if you are a digger you can eventually transfer to commissioned officer. Whats your reasoning behind 45 being too old if they are still suitable for the job?

    • @johnmcdonald-6196
      @johnmcdonald-6196 Месяц назад

      @@outperformfitness standards are too low generally. The state of the military is the weakest it’s been maybe since the inter war period. Fitness standards have steadily declined over the last 20 years. Who’s defining ‘suitable for the job’? During the GWOT we had the luxury of hiding many personnel in fairly comfortable conditions while a very small group of people did the fighting. You don’t need a doctorate in strategic studies to see there’s some very concerning flash points around the world. If we as a nation are honest with ourselves, I propose a small fraction of the ADF could go and not only survive, but dominate in a near peer conflict like Eastern Europe right now, or potentially in the South China Sea.

    • @outperformfitness

      @@outperformfitness if you can’t extrapolate the answer from the above, I can’t make it any clearer. And to be more accurate, I didn’t say 45 was too old, I said the standards were too low.

    • @outperformfitness
      @outperformfitness Месяц назад

      @johnmcdonald-6196 what was "it should be" referring to? I just had a candidate do a 10.11 on the beep test at age 58 which is better than most would do even through my time from 2005-2022. So with this, age and the fitness standards are not related.

    I’m old and arm low at level 6.1 (combat support). Two weeks ago I tested myself and struggled to reach only level 3. Thus, I went to a gym and worked hard on running 5 days/week. Today I could do the first two phases: 1) run continuously for 40 minutes at a speed of 7.5 kmh; 2) run continuously for 4 minutes at 11.5kmh (pace 5.22). Is my speed for phase 1 acceptable? Should I arm longer and/or faster for both phases? Any suggestion, or correction for me?

    • @outperformfitness
      @outperformfitness Месяц назад

      Phase 1 the pace isn;t a massive concern but if you can do it with a pace of 7min/km or under then it would benefit you. Phase 2 is 1km in less than 5:27, it be more beneficial to aim for the 5min or under. 4min while running at the pace you did is still well under a km so you haven't completed phase 2 yet

      Today I have tested myself in a park. I have been still very struggling with Beep Test but I reached the level of 6.1 - my target. I will continue working hard to make sure that level as well as pushing a bit higher, say, level 7.x. Here are just some points to share: - I’m very old and an office man and I have had almost no running or gym for almost all of my life. I was overweight seriously. Recently I improved my health and reduced a lot of weight but still a bit overweight (1-2 kg over to have a good BMI). You may see I could reach my target level in a short period thus I believe you all could do much better than me! - This video is so good, it helped me to divide work into some simple steps to follow and achieve in a reasonable time. Thank @Brodie a lot for your training videos and your encouragement via many posts! Just follow the phases of the video and do some homework I believe you can reach your level in quick ways (my homework is to read/watch videos about running techniques to run longer, easier without getting hurt)

    Hot tip for new players, get your run time down to a sub 10. Seeing the new march ins from the 3 week course is interesting. They are quite deficient in quals but most concern is fitness. Kapooka is not going to make you fit and the basic pt program by army is very deficient. My unit we have stupid level of fitness. About 20% are sfet level fit, with wide variation from there. Your goal should be the following when you hit kapooka. Min 11 minute run for 2.4, 60 pushups and 100 situps. You hit these before you go you will find kapooka a joke.

    Is the aptitude test still at the YOU session? I'm still in the application process and got emailed an aptitude test to complete online.
