A Pipe Dream Comes True - The Story of the Capri Theatre Organ
Просмотров 14 тыс.3 года назад
The Capri Theatre in Goodwood, South Australia has the second largest Theatre Pipe Organ in the Southern hemisphere. This is the story of how the organ was put together in the 60s, how it ended up in Darwin and eventually was bought by the Theatre Organ Society of Australia (TOSA) South Australian Division, and saved just before Darwin was destroyed by a cyclone on Christmas day 1974! Made in 1...
Amazing instrument and documentary. Thanks from UK.
a great video-and great music provided by master Chris McPhee. With heartfelt and warm greetings from Stuttgart/Germany.
Wonderful presentation. Thank you.
Special sounding TPO you have there down under. I feel it on my feet!
Excellent story! I recently photographed the Piccadilly Cinema at night. Now I have a new subject on the list. 🙂
Loved this story, i lived diagonally opposite the Capri from 98 to 01 and went many many times for a movie and recital. Such fascinating history so very well presented. Thank you for all the hard work done on and given to the restoration.
Thank you, TOSA, for publishing this video to RUclips, electronically. From 25 years ago, I have this on VHS. I especially always liked Chris McPhee's opening piece. The song is a Hawaiian novelty titled: "Kalua" or "KA LU A". Nice to hear that track again.
Oh! I had forgotten at the end of the film "At the Codfish Ball". Chris plays superbly such novelty tunes.
My late Dad was one of the TOSA SA members who helped modify the theatre, and install and maintain the Wurlitzer 4/29 from the 1970s onwards. He was a passionate theatre organ hobbyist and home movie cameraman, so contributed a little of the footage. He does briefly appear in this film at certain points, working and enjoying the adventure. He never missed an opportunity to update his family or friends about the Capri Theatre. It is wonderful to have this high quality visual record of the project that occupied so much of his time and affection for half of his lifetime.
Thanks a lot for making this freely available, pretty cool story 👌
LOVED the cod fish ball!
Really well put together video! Hello from Mount Gambier SA
Hello from South Africa. Wonderful documentary, filming and artists. The restoration crew are outstanding. I will search for other recordings. Regrettably I cannot come to hear the culmination of your labours "performing live".
Thank you all for this. I lived across the road from the Capri Theatre in the late 1980's and went to hear (and see) some free organ concerts there. The theatre organ was a new and magical thing for me then, and to hear the music start and see the console rise up, and the mechanical accompaniment behind the windows ........ just marvellous. So wonderful to find the full story of this instrument in 2022. All hail the King of Instruments, especially the ancient ones - ruclips.net/video/f_g44OM1GZs/видео.html.
Is there a download url for the Five Alive Organ Concert?
Not really. Contact the Capri theatre via their web site and ask the manager to pass on your email to me. Wayne
Brilliantly produced documentary. What a huge editing effort. Well done!!! (Not a bad organ either)
Thank you. Wayne
How nice to see the presentation of this theatre. My wife and i have been there and seen it all in action and it is superb. The people down there are doing a valiant job really well worth a visit. Yes its a long way from England to Goodwood but if you can go and have A look at this fantastic organ insulation .It will blow your socks off.
Very interesting
Delightful
Beautiful !!! From Meadville Pa. USA 👍
Wow! What an astonishing accomplishment. Would that I were closer and able to visit, see and hear this beauty. But alas, Huntsville Alabama is a *very* long way off.
Thanks for the history lesson
What a gem to see..found this by accident on RUclips. Wonderful sound quality. Reminds me of the sound of the theater organ in the great casino theater on Catalina Island, CA USA/ Greeting from Indiana USA.
Fantastic and great job on the remastering of this production. Anybody knows if the recordings mentioned are still available for purchase anywhere?
Thank you for your comments on the video. Much appreciated. Please contact the Capri General Manager via the Capri.org.au web site and ask him to pass on your email details to me. Wayne
@@waynebertram3083 Cheers Wayne, will do, thanks for the follow up!
Great production and loved hearing the history of the organ and cinema that I love. My piano teacher, Mr Geoff Smith, was first TOSA president.
Amazing, I had a friend who has been on the maintenace team who took me to the Capri theatre where I had a chance to attempt to play the Capri organ. The sound was faboulous. I am missionary in Hong Kong with with a Hauptwerk Paramont theatre organ, but this experience at the Capri was the most outstanding theatre organ experience.
Well done too all 1st class thanks .
Both the organ restoration, and the documentary restoration...truly works of love, and both outstanding results !!
You have my unstinted admiration for every aspect of your achievements. Long may you all continue in good heath.
Well done. good story and wonderful organ and theatre and artists Cheers from New Zealand
Absolutely wonderful! A great story and a tribute to all those who have worked so hard over the years!
