    Im just making my very first hat and had to start over because I had no idea that I needed to line up my cast on. Your tip will be on my mind for future projects. Another problem I encountered is that somehow I ended up reversing my knit, the inside became the outside. Do you have videos on that as well?

    Why do you always feel a need to bash continental knitters? It boils down to which hand a knitter feels comfortable tensioning. Your tips are helpful but there's no need to trash continental knitting IMHO

      I agree it's about personal preference and Continental knitting works wonderfully for many. I'm not trying to bash continental knitters. Rather I'm trying to counter the misconception that the only way to be a faster knitter is to learn continental. In this video I'm telling English knitters that we don't have to give up on how we're comfortable knitting.

    I knit very weirdly. I use a hybrid purling style using my thumb to purl, that is somewhere between continental and portuguese knitting, and it works really well for me. I cannot for the life of me get my hands to be proficient at English style. I had a knitting teacher make gentle fun of my knitting, because he told me I was twisting my stitches. I’m currently doing a shawl with miles of stockinette. I’m looking forward to doing this!!! ❤😂. It should go much faster.

      Probably the easiest thing to do is pull out the slack from the middle of the cast on like your doing a half magic loop. The you you can have the first stitch on your left needle and last stitch on the right needle when you join. Once you join in the round you can pull the slack out from beginning of the round.

When we can make it so we have very few movements, it really helps. Mostly I'm fine with knitting except right now I'm doing a cabled cardigan and now I get to evaluate how to eliminate the twisting.

    I know this video is a bit older. I haven't watched your lever video yet, but I am curious. I did increase my speed by utilizing ideas from lever, especially utilizing my left needle. I still knife grip, and I have no desire to flick. My right hand mostly moves forward and back, pick up the work. The twisting the finger of flicking doesn't work for me. Trying to hold the project in the pencil grip was hard for me which is why I didn't switch my grip.

    I was an English knitter for about 50 years, having learnt from my mother, aged eight. Although continental knitting is faster and has tightened up my tension, I believe English knitting to be more relaxing and a more graceful way to knit. I will add that I am English, so maybe a little biased, but I agree with another comment made here, that there is a lot of snobbery concerning English style knitting 🙁. By the way, the style that you are demonstrating is how I was taught. Unfortunately I always had difficulty with tension, so I am going to have a go at tensioning it the way you have and see if it helps 😊.

    When you have self striping yarn the pattern will be disturbed, because you knit the first part of the heel in the round. You get more and more stitches so the striping becomes different. I ,m still searching how to knit this heel with a different color so the striping yarn will not be used for the heel.

    • @CarrieCraftGeek
      @CarrieCraftGeek 2 месяца назад

      You could change colors when starting the heel and then switch back to the self striping after the heel turn is complete. But, the new color is going to interrupt the stripes on the instep.

    • @sietievdw5404
      @sietievdw5404 2 месяца назад

      @@CarrieCraftGeek yes it does and I don’t,t like that.

    • @CarrieCraftGeek
      @CarrieCraftGeek 2 месяца назад

      @@sietievdw5404 Truthfully this heal construction is designed to work the instep and heel all at once, so it's not great for what you want to accomplish. You'd have more luck with other heels. An afterthought heel or short row heel can give a more uninterrupted look to the self striping. Afterthought heel can be cool with self striping yarn because you can create a bullseye effect with the heel portion.
