    Zajímavostí je, že tahle stanice je nad zemí, nikoliv pod zemí jako většina stanic v centru. Ono těch nadzemních stanic je víc, na trase B ještě Hůrka, jsou to zejména ty okrajové části trasy.

    Byť tak v Prahe a poznať vodiča metra v DPMP, ktorý by si riskol vziať ma do kabíny. Ešteže máme v Bratislave na novej trati z centra do Petržalky úvraťové obratisko, aspoň niečo podobné s obratiskami metra v Prahe. A pri rekonštrukcii tratí DPB zájde na čerstvý vzduch na pár mesiacov aj "kaliforňan".

      Niet za čo, aj ja som rád, že som to videl. Vždy ma to zaujímalo. Úvraťové obratisko. V Budapešti sú všetky električkové obratiská úvraťové a všetky električky obojsmerné (s dvermi na oboch stranách).

    Just realized that there are two things that make these trams different from those in Prague. 1: They are, of course, bi-directional (driving positions at both ends, and doors on both sides); and 2: The track gauge is narrower here. I've always thought of the term "Californian crossover" as applying to a purely temporary arrangement -- but it looks as if the set-up here is permanent (?) PS -- edited to add: Thanks for your reply, Michal; it crossed with my this (my second) comment!

      Yes it is a purely temporary arrangent surface "put on/put of" surface switch/crossover. In Bratislava are used narrow-gauge tracks (1000 mm) in Košice (2nd largest city in Slovakia) and in Czechia (Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Plzeň, Litvínov-Most) standard 1435 mm and in Liberec bi-gauge tracks (narrow 1000 and standard 1435 [mm], 3 tracks). In Bratislava we have this bi-gauge tracks too (1000 and 1435 [mm], but 4 tracks). But probably this standard one will never be used. You can see it and ride on this tracks on trip to Petržalka (over the bridge over Danube river). This line uses only bi-direction trams. The terminus is the same as terminus in subways/undergrounds/metros. The other terminuni are "round". In Bratislava and in all Czech, but also other cities in Central-East, East, South East Europe (former communist) countries trams of type T 3 (constructed in former ČKD factory in Prague), the most of trams of the same type has been constructed there, over 14,000 cars. This is the world record. But T 3 and most older European trams have the same concept/ prototype PCC (President Commitee Car) trams from USA. Maybe you are from USA too, sir.

      @@DICU41 -- I am in fact from Wales (where, alas, we no longer have any real urban trams -- only the "touristy", cable-hauled Great Orme Tramway: ruclips.net/video/aGkpXMJyq50/видео.html ). The Tatra T3 trams, by the way, are -- in my view -- a technological marvel: probably the world's most robustly reliable passenger-carrying vehicle. Those running in Prague were found by one report to have an operational reliability of no less than 98.9%!

    Very interesting. This is the first film I have seen showing one of these "Californian crossovers" in use. (I wonder why they are called that: my guess is that it might have something to do with the trackwork used in mining operations?) Is this Bratislava, by the way? I am familiar with, and very fond of, the Prague system -- of which this reminded me so much. Looks like I should book a visit to Slovakia!

      Is that tracksystem used for transportation of freigh in mines I have no idea. This "Californian switch/crossover" is a terminus technicus for switch/crossover which is "trasporttable" occationally placed where it is necessary and that be brought back to depot. I will try to find out, why is it called "Californian switch/crossover". I'been twice to San Francisco, CA and "ancient" trams even cable-cars there were very nice and interesting. What a pity a didn't take a ride in them. I hope you will have opportunity to visit Bratislava. Nowadays there isn't any switch. Near is a river port and you can take a ship trip to Devín castle (10 km against the river stream) or to Vienna (60 km in the same direction). 🙂

      @@DICU41 Yes, the normal English plural of "terminus" is "termini" -- pronounced, in "anglo-barbaric" fashion, as termin-eye (eye = oko). No idea what the plural of "terminus technicus" is, though...😊 Termini technici?
