Jaguar F type rear brake replacement... kinda

I attempted to replace the rear brake pads however the pads are deceptive and didn't need doing yet. The procedure to put the rear brakes into maintenance mode is: Ignition on Handbrake down then accelerator down Before releasing those 2 turn the ignition off and on again You should then hear the caliper retracting and see a message to confirm

Well what can i say watched video. Ordered the part 13.11p fitted exactly as shown reset instructions perfect. What a star perfect money saving tip. Thankyou

Hi. What kind of battery was it?
@roxannechante2023 not sure check the part number for details
My 2018 jaguar xe r sport has the same issue thanks to your video I can now get it fix on my own
Great stuff!
Hi ,did you have any problem with ur car alarm when this battery it was low ?
@alikootahi5450 no, not at all
Id be seriously talking to the neighbours about the loudness of music mine eventually stopped after i smashed his hifi was worth the 150 fine
Music not usually an issue, whenever there's nice day round here someone has a power tool out
@louismochine4756 power tools easy to deal with but bass music at 1.30 am and police don't come out has to be sorted
I cringed when I saw you close the bonnet from one side. closing the bonnet from center will always be best to keep from misalignment of the panel gaps.
My experience is, that is only true of bonnets that are already misaligned, hence why mine closes so easily without the need to use 2 hands.
@@louismochine4756 Incorrect... the one-handed closure is the main culprit of misaligned bonnets. The repetitiveness is the cause.

Thanks for the video, really helpful. For my 2016 model the battery was different so I suggest to check it before buying the battery. I replaced it but still get SOS message, maybe I have to drive some miles to kind of "charge it" but the problem could be potentially somewhere else....
Might be a different reset procedure for the earlier models
I get this message on my 2017 and always forget about it until the next time I start the car. Great to know I can fix this myself. Excellent video and instructions! Thank you for taking the time to document the process.
Glad I could help 👍
Your time must have been worth more than the £165 refurb cost, surely?
Loved this popping up in my feed 😊
Use the alum.tape, because of the heat, just in case.
Design a car and drive it for five years so you can make fixes for all the stupid engineering you built in. Either that or buy your engines from Toyota or Honda. They seem to have things figured out.
Cheers Louis, I had the same on my V8 2015, but the battery unit on my telematics unit had 3 wires on the plug supplying 3.9V to differing parts of it I'm guessing. I did exactly the same as you pressing the SOS to test and a call came in LOL. I was shocked initially and there was a little speaker tucked away in the centre somewhere and whilst I embarrassingly apologised. I could hardly understand the caller, the speaker was squawking terribly! For some reason once I had removed the battery and replaced it back in, it worked fine and it has not come back. I didn't know about holding the spanner button so thanks for that! Good lad. I've got Michelins going onto my Jag too, soon.
yeah good to know there's someone out there to help if things go wrong
OCD has entered the chat.
It is a Jaguar. So just wait, new day, new problem.
Part of that is how you take care of it (or don't).
It'd be boring if nothing ever went wrong!
I haven't had a problem yet with my F-Type
You done a excellent job there. I replaced my Jaguar XF dashboard not so long ago, the leather came apart. My next mission is to find someone to replace the front windscreen, water has started to come inside. Is there anyone good, you can recommend to replace windscreen?
Thanks, I've not had the best experience with windscreen replacements.
It's actually shocking how easy it comes apart and what few tools will do it.
Well done. And I agree.. better to spend your energy driving the F-Type, then worrying about your video quality.
I'll get there one day
Nice Louis! Would have annoyed myself too with the leather being scratched. I saw two divots on the glove box leather, were you able to get them out? Great job though!
Might make a separate video fixing those
Get a car cover or garage .
Ins cos are writing cars off like there's mo tomorrow. most of them are flood damaged 😊
Changed oil on my 18R coupe both ways. Out the bottom and suction. Kind of a pain to get shield off. But I’m lucky to have a 4 post hoist. Not concerned about service records. I take pics of each service event. Also never intend to sell the car, as it is a perfect 50 year younger sibling to the 68 E type. Keep up the good info on videos!!
Brilliant RUclips thanks
When removing the injector bolts warm up the engine properly. Like how you want motor hot to change oil filter, spark plugs, you want the engine heat to help remove the injector bolts. Instead of bad looking duct tape to help direct water away from the injectors, order the factory rubber pieces used on later model F types from the factory. Look and work much better. Plus OEM fit and function.
Love the OEM upgrades !
When removing your battery Positive connection, your Socket/Ratchet is flailing around….and if it is was to touch anything metal….😮 You should disconnect the negative terminal IMO. Good video, gave enough info for someone to have a good.
Hi Louis. Found your vid by accident….very interesting as this was the same reason I sold my Ftype. Discovering the amount of corrosion lower down scared the hell out of me as a long term car. Gutted as it was a dream car. I’ll put a vid with pics out when I get a mo. Mine had pooling on top of where gearbox meets block. Wiring harnesses was underwater. The design was clearly flawed and unacceptable in this day and age. DIY hell when out of warranty. Mine went back to dealer 😢
So, the guy driving round in his F type all macho n stuff,......... needs a heated steering wheel? 😂
Is an F-type macho? Only people who have owned a heated steering wheel "need" a heated steering wheel.
well at least his aint tucked up in the garage over winter. Besides, on a winters morning i would imagine they are ace.
Is that the first shunt it’s had? Those mesh bonnet vents are off an earlier car.
It only has 1 accident recorded, I think the 380 bhp versions had the mesh vents
@@louismochine4756 very early 380s have the mesh vents. But they leaked water into the engine bay causing a common failure (can’t remember what it was) so they switched to a more covered version in the same recess on RWD cars.
@@neilscott7683 Not true there's plenty of MY18 car's with mesh vents looks like just the 2ltr doesn't have them
@@louismochine4756 I’ve just checked. The ‘mesh’ vent on the V6 was replaced by the ‘louvred’ vent from the V8 for MY17, due to the mesh vents leaking water onto injectors. No idea about the 2.0. Those are the wrong vents for that car.
@@neilscott7683 your wrong look on Autotrader
You did all that work, and didn't replace the rotos and pads? You were right there, with the car jacked up, all the necessary parts and tools ready to go, and you DIDN'T do the job? The pads had (according to you) maybe 6 months to go, and you just stopped when you were an hour or so away from actually doing the job? You must be retired. Or stupid.
Good video. I just did my V6 FType brake pads at 30kmiles. Two thoughts. My front brake pads wore quicker than my rears. I also opted to have my rotors “recut” or “turned” which was about 50 USD per rotor. Jag allows for 2mm of wear before the rotors are inadequate for use.
Mines at 30k the fronts look fine, difficult to measure the wear on the disc with the lip in the way
Are you not aware that front brakes do 90% of the work stopping the car? That's why your front pads wore faster, it's perfectly normal.
Hi Louis, not pointless at all. Always great to see people tackle jobs such as brakes on their own F-Types. You also jogged my memory for the maintenance mode for replacement etc. At my last service I was told that the brake pads were at 50% with a looming MOT, I just said, ok it should pass then!! No advisory either! except tyres, as usual!.
Yeah easy job really no caliper rewind needed, I'm thinking of upgrading the pads surely those groves means there's less contact area
Mine has rubber flaps over that gap. I think my hood is different as well. I have a '16 R. Did they change it between '15 and '16?
Sounds like you have the AWD version
Nicely done Louis & thank you for sharing, this one option I don't have but must admit I've not missed it since I don't drive early mornings anymore ;)
Thanks part of the video didn't record where I explained having the worst circulation and always freezing hands
@@louismochine4756 The things we have to go through & do for YT eh!
È una noia mortale: troppe chiacchiere !
Adding the deflectors will help, though corrosion between the head squeezing around the injectors is probably why these fail like other similar ones exposed to atmosphere. I definitely recommend spraying the shit out of it with ACF50 with a HVLP paint gun.
You can use any o-20 oil it’s all synthetic. I would probably use mobile one. It’s the highest rated if not that I’d use a generic store brand
I lost number 4 injector on my v6s and it cost me thousands to get it sorted due to it being corroded in place and a bugger to remove. Once I had it back I took to taking my cheap rubber boot mat out and putting it over the engine whenever it wasn't in use.
What age / mileage did that happen?

Nice looking car and great design. But as all british cars rubbish! For that money you pay, you buying a lot of PAIN.

Great to see you take your F-Type on a vacation/holiday trip. Good for you. And I did notice your exuberance in the tunnel.
To be fair, we drive it daily
Louis, I also don’t like the water ingress, but I have the luxury of garage parking. I have removed the engine cover many 1000’s of miles ago… no regrets, and I also pop the hood open when returning from a drive and parking in the garage. This helps remove engine heat. I am hoping to avoid bad injectors with high quality fuel and occasional 2 hour drives. Good Luck in 2024
Does the engine cover removed make more engine noise in the cabin? I suppose changing the fuel filter early would be a good preventative measure.
@@louismochine4756 The lack of engine cover had no impact on engine noise, but a positive effect on under hood heat rejection and weight reduction. A win-win-win
My F-Type didn't come with an engine cover. But, thank for pointing this out. I do plan on buying an engine to use a template for making a carbon fibre cover. Knowing this, I can address it in my design
Sounds like a good product the Jag version is extortionate
@@louismochine4756 How has development of the engine cover been going? Would be interested to see it and how much it costs.
