DIY Bookends from Tilting Motor Works (TMW) parts

Saved a few of these parts from the recycle bin and turned it into bookends. The Lightning & TMW project was really a fun proof of concept. So lucky to be part of it. Sailing The Open Sea: Astoria, Oregon to Port Angeles, Washington Part 1
Просмотров 433Год назад
First time sailing in the open sea. Got an opportunity of a life time to be part of a crew on a Hunter Legend 40. A chance I could not pass up. I like to thank the captain/owner of the boat & the rest of the crew, especially Jen for helping me trying to cope with my sea sickness and making this trip as comfortable as possible. Went sailing on a Hunter 40. Got rid of my anxiety when steering & gained a bit more experience handling the genoa. Unfortunately I keep having technical problems when trying to film and editing. So the video is quite terrible, but this is all the footage I got. Hopefully I will get to do it again soon

Went to slaughter a sheep & decided to tan the sheepskin. Else the farmer just throw away the skin. I can't bear to see these beautiful skins rot. By day 2, if the fat & the flesh are still on the skin, it starts to smell to high heavens 3. This project requires a lot of pers...

Had to make a video featuring one of Abiet's song ("Mimpi di Parangtritis") We kayak from the Benham Falls trailhead upstream toward Sisters, then slowly floats back with the current. Quiet, peaceful and serene. A great section for kayaking.

SeaEagle SE370 Kayak Review, Roll Test: Kayaking Central Oregon & Checking Out Sailboats On The Lake
How does one manage clearing customs with live plants aboard? I'd love to try this, but not with the extra inspections and quarrantine.
Poor audio
Your vid popped up with autoplay while I'm working around the house. I gotta say, it got my attention and I enjoyed it, including you talking about what you saw as you paddled along. I think I'll have to get me a boat. Thanks for the inspiration and all the best to you buddy!
This is a Hunter 27 Cherubini. It is identical to my 1984. Which is actually the last year of production.
I’m about to buy a Catalina 25 enjoyed watching the restoration
thank you. Enjoy your sailboat.
Child labor on the shoes
Those are some neglected boats aha. The marina I have my sailboat is unfortunately the same (actually worse). That being said your boat looks nice! I have a 1983 Pacific 27 which I've taken through rivers and offshore. What motor does the Catalina have? I cant imagine it has an inboard with those crates in the middle so I'm guessing its an outboard?
Yes. Only an outboard motor.
I have a 6 HP outboard on mine. I had a 9.9 which died. But unless going against a strong current the 6 HP -- with a special high thrust prop---works just fine.
Why the Mountain Dew?
Mountain Dew has that citrusy taste that I like.
Just subscribed. Read some comments. Some people want to be negative towards your boat. Don’t pay no attention to them. I like your boat . and the final outcome is Amazing. Beautiful woodwork you done and very nicely decorated. I lived on a 32’ westerly. Loved every second. but the boat wasn’t in good condition so I let it go. And I’m a minimalist it was a little too big. But I like the fact that I could stand up. It was about 6’ inside. I’m 5’9”. A 27’or a 25’ would be ideal for me. Hopefully if everything goes well I’ll be back in Nc this coming summer. around Southport to Calabash area. But I can’t find a live aboard marine in that area and none in North Myrtle Beach. So I’ll probably buy a camper and hopefully park it at Holden campground. 👍
Coffe and snow!!! Can’t go wrong 😊with
Perfect weather for a cup of latte. Next time I want camp out here in the snow.
👍
I noticed the fins were on the wrong side when you did your roll test. You were sitting backwards. If you row the other way, it might be more stable for you.
yes you are right, it was back ward during the roll test only but we were the right way during kayaking it around. If you kayaking it backwards, which I did once, it becomes very unstable & you are not going anywhere
Keep sailing Si, keep sailing. Great video and I love the song!
9 inch wire brush on a variable speed angle grinder will clean that up in 10 minutes !!
Thanks for the tip!
Nice collection of neglect in that marina.
True. I even made a video looking at some of those abandoned boats closely.
G'day Si. Having done this trip, has the trip inspired you to buy another boat to live on and go sailing again ?. Gerard.
I want to go sailing again for sure. I did look for boats to live on, in fact I did find a few good candidate but.... The marina's docking fee here in Portland area are just ridiculously expensive. There is not much difference between renting an apartment vs. living aboard.
@@sipitak8702 You can allways rent an swing mooring witch means that you will need an dinghy to go ashore. that would be cheaper than an wet berth. Or look into installing you owen swing mooring then only pay for yearly registration and inspection. Allso consider going smaller at lest 24 ft is still an comfortable size. Gerard.
Enjoyed the tour. I may have missed it but what year is it?
2020
Oh you meant what year is the boat. I is 1981 C25
Where can you find a marina that cheap?
Very nice views....❤😊
You can buy the rope and braid the ropes yourself. It's not hard here are the tools, you'll need to find instruction. GT KNOTS Plastic Splicing Fids Splice Braided, Hollow and Twisted Rope (3 Pack - 1/4", 3/8”, 1/2", Gray)

EVERY boat is a liveaboard. Some of us prefer less as to more. I lived on 22' Pearson for 3 years and loved every second. It all comes down to what you think you need in life. If you think you need tons of stuff, being a liveaboard is not the life for you... unless you have crap tons of money to buy a 42' or larger boat. Great Vid my man! keep em coming! Don't listen to these dickheads and their condescending comments. Just keep living your best life! "Live if what you make it" :D
I'm with you brother. I'm planning on a liveaboard lifestyle within the next year. I'm in the process of minimizing all my belongings..Not much more to go for. I live in a small studio in NY. I need a different pace of life. This is actually a dream come true!
@@waltervega8730 Congrats brother! Initially, it will be fun. You'll realize how 'Freeing' it is with out all the "Stuff". Its a life like no other! However, its when the realities of liveaboard life start to anoy you is when you'll find out if this life is for you. A few issues we've all had is ; boat repairs, Water procurement, waste disposal, transfering food/goods to the boat (if you are on 'the hook'), and simply adjusting to a much smaller living environment. I've lived alone and with a woman aboard. I can say it's much easyier when you are alone seeing that neither of you kinda have your own 'space'. This can be a bit challenging at times but if the two of you can adjust, you'll do just fine. By yourself is easier, but does get a tad lonely. I solved this by having beer or wine at a bar close by.
@@TombiggbeeLife hahaha Great, thank you for the advice! Will be me and 2 dogs..I'm sure we'll make it work! Like you said I'm freeing myself of all the stuff I don't need! I want a life of experiences and not stuff!
I am glad y still like sailing and going out on sailing boats. I do hope that one day you will have another boat again. Its good to take action to keep your dreams alive. Gerard.
Bagus!!
maybe next time I got to sail in Langkawi?
@@sipitak8702 inshallah 😊
He’s back! And in a sailboat! Good to see.

Does the marina offer showers and WiFi ?
No. The marina was closed for renovations. Maybe the amenities are better now
Hey my friend! How are you?
Doing good. No longer works for TMW/Arcimoto.Most likely will relocate to portland.

God gives light to heaven and earth. the similitude of God's light, Is like an impenetrable hole, In which there is a large lamp. BRILLIANT, many thanks for a concise video. There are lots of videos on RUclips, none are as straightforward and easy to follow as this, so well done. Also for your informative comments. I am mixing my egg yokes right now! 2 thoughts - soaking in alum (aluminium sulphate) might help the skin to tighten on the wool fleece, which could be useful in younger sheep. Also fleshing with a jet wash/pressure hose, with the skin pinned onto a flat board seemed to work for me. I am only on my first 2 sheepskins, so still experimenting. Loved your video. PS, also loved the bookshop. Have you tried ‘The Jungle is Neutral’, F Spencer Chapman. A great read.
Thank you for your kind words. In aTikTok world today, I tried my best to make my videos as short as possible. I was not able to get my hands on Alum in time last time, next time (if ever) I will definitely use Alum. PS: The vintage book section in the store was a treasure trove. All for USD $3.50 each! What a bargain.
I live in Ireland and have found it hard to get Alum powder so I used a salt and white vinegar bath. It’s worked really well. I too used a power washer which made life soo much easier. 👍
The boat is exactly like my 1981 Hunter. Its length is 27 feet. Its a fantastic cruiser excellent for up to 4 adults. I added propane cooking and hot water, a new epoxy bottom, spray painted the hull dark green, repainted the topsides white with new new Skid. I really miss her. I traded up to a 35 foot Pearson (1975) which had a full keel with center board. Excellent shape as well. Both were kept in Annapolis MD and I sailed both for many years. Now I’m boat less and living in cape May.
I think we will always miss our first boat.

How often do you paint the hull and how much did it cost?
Cost $1200 at the marina where we took it to. In my "3 projects I did not get to do" video I covered this topic from min 1 to min 4. ruclips.net/video/60hLfNDCjL0/видео.html. As far as how often, I am afraid I am not the expert on that.
This is a gel coat hull, you don’t paint it, you wax it with car wax.

Hi Si, you just described why I don't like sailboat racing, it adds so much stress to what should be a beautiful relaxing day on the water! If you ever find yourself in the Northeast let me know, I'll take you out for a sail on my Catalina 25.
thank you. I will remember the offer.
My dad bought a brand new Pearson 26 in 1971. Many happy childhood memories of that boat. So sad to see one left in that condition.
Which one is the Pearson26?
@@sipitak8702 3:06
Great video however that marina should have never let anyone go under the boat ! The straps can give way from the weight of the boat! I own a Catalina 25 and they are a heavy boat.
25 is too small for a liveaboard
The only problem I have is cooking and doing dishes. Not to mention lack of proper head for shower. Luckily, I can do all my cooking and take a shower at my workplace. Because of that, it works out great for me.
thats what i was thinking... 30 comes with the toilet and shower.
@@sipitak8702 You can "shower" in the 5gallon bucket with a wash rag. This looks much more comfortable than living in a volkswagon bus and plenty of people have lived in a van by the river. If you look some french man sailed around the world in a home made boat that makes this thing look much more livable. I'll give you $100 and a mexican coke for the boat right now. Cash offer.

Good video. How fast can the 9 hp push the boat? How many miles per hour or knots?
Knot very fast. 3 knots maybe. Never paid attention. Plus, never really push it every time we go out boating around.
