Little Green Patch 98

Добавлен 11 апр 2016
Welcome to my channel; designated to my journey to a more self sufficient living. My journey started in November 2015. I plan to pay off all or most of my debit by 2023. There will be many trails and struggles along the way but I am committed to this long time dream of a self sufficient lifestyle.
So my journey begins with knowing my weakness and strengths; an improving my current situation. I have never grown anything in life and the first plant I had; I killed after only a few months ("My Little EggGuy" rest in peace). Time to make a plan and get started. My videos will be me showing you my ups and downs along the way. So I hope you tune in for the journey.
When the SHTF will you be ready? I hope you will be. I know I am trying to get there. My family and I are well on our way; but we have a lot still to do. You can always improve and learn new skills. God Bless & Stay Ready....

Zappa Toscanna Soup recipe in description box with pantry style change’s.
What are the ingredients??!! Can’t make it if I don’t know what to use.
Original Recipe: 8-12 bacon pieces chopped 1 lb Italian sausage mild or spicy, according to your preference 1 large onion diced 6 cloves garlic minced 6 cups chicken broth 2 cups water 5-6 medium yukon gold potatoes diced 3 cups kale chopped 1 cup heavy cream Salt and pepper to taste 1/2 tsp Italian seasonings 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes optional 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese grated (optional, for serving) I changed a few thing’s for what I had in my pantry. I submitted kale for Swiss chard. I used dry milk powder made up and a little potato flakes to thicken it. I used ham broth instead of chicken. I showed the whole making of it in my pantry challenge week#3 video that I posted just before this one. Hope you try it. God Bless 🙏🏽
lol after watching your grilled cheese sandwich video the other night I got the sandwich maker out and made a quick one for myself too!
You know just you mentioning a sandwich maker. We have a little countertop grill I use to make all kinds of thing on. I have to pull it out to see if it still works.
My friend Daphne from @MyMountainHomeandKitchen uses instant potatoes to make soups and to thicken soups as well! Great minds think a like! Your rolls and Zuppa look amazing! Hubby was impressed with the rolls he said they look store bought! I have noticed so far on the best choice brand that we have up here they are not adding bio-engineered foods yet or so it seems! I am glad they are going to stop using red dye! My favorite tomatoes soup is the one with bell peppers in it. I need to look for a recipe so I can make my own because it is so good!
I am sitting toasty warm in the house now and I just refilled the ladies water (chickens) We got 5 eggs again today! Took the garbage to the road. Hubby fell asleep in the recliner watching the inauguration stuff so I let him sleep! It is currently -7 out! School was cancelled today and will be tomorrow. Our low tonight is -23 and our high tomorrow will be -4. Wednesday we will see an improvement with a high of 16! I am currently precooking 2 lbs of ground beef and turning it into taco meat! We are going to have taco salads for dinner tonight! I like make extra because Charley will make taco salads with it while I am working so I know he is eating some veggies 😜😜😜
Always sneak the veggies in where you can. 🤫 Your high of -4 is our low tonight. I don’t think I have ever been in double negative degrees before. Good thing you are warm and cozy. Stay Safe 🙏🏽
Good evening my sweet friend ♥ You cook like I do. I do not meal plan either! That is a lot of extra work! I make what we have on hand!
Good Afternoon My Dear Friend 🌞 You are so right about extra work meal planning. It just never really something I cared to do but the one time. It was for the very first pantry challenge I did year’s ago.
@@littlegreenpatch98 I think they serve people newer at cooking and prepping well but when you have been doing it for years you just know!
I live in a very cool environment along the coast of Oregon. But, I keep a fan running in my stockroom. It keeps moisture from settling on the metal things and causing rust. I also keep moisture absorbing containers in there and rotate when they fill up. I also tossed down bay leaves on my floor. We tent to track them into other parts of the house but, they are amazing at repelling bugs. So it’s worth it to me. I am going to make little sachets that I can put peppermint essential oil on to repel rodents too. Cool, dark, dry, and pest free!!!😊
Great idea about the sachet’s. I have material, peppermint essential oil and bay leaves. What would you use as a filler? Rice, dry corn or something else. I don’t want to attract them with the food smells.
@ Dry beans would work. Little bean bags with essential oils on them. 😊
Same here!! Unbelievable how much stuff went up
So right. Not even just food. Everything, everything in general has jumped so high in the last two year’s. Everything except paychecks. I don’t know how everyone is making it. 🙏🏽
Now I want a cheese sandwich! Thank you for sharing!
They were delicious. I just wish I had some fresh tomatoes 🍅 to put in mine. Can’t wait for the garden to come back. 🙂
Good evening sweet friend 🌻I make overnight oats with yogurt, peanut butter and frozen blueberries! I was using CapCut to edit my videos and now it can't be used due to the whole TikTok thingy so I need to find another way to edit. What do you use?
Good Evening My Dear Friend 🌞 I use iMovie. I can use it on my iPhone or laptop. Super easy to use. It’s an Apple product though. Tik Tok maybe back. So you may be able to use CapCut. That overnight oat’s sounds delicious. I may have to try it. I am playing around trying to make my own Greek yogurt. I want to try it using shelf stall milk. I found a recipe on New England Cheesemaking website. 🤞🏽 Stay warm. God Bless 🙏🏽
@@littlegreenpatch98 I checked out a few and I am really hoping tomorrow it will be back lol! Trump is suppose to take care of all that tomorrow! lol
Glad to see you stocked up. It’s definitely needed. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. I am glad we did it because we needed that major rotation of our food. I was a little uneasy about going 2 year’s but it worked in the end. 🙏🏽

My dream haul 💝
@janeprepper177 One step at a time. You will get to where you want to be. This took me year’s to get to this point. Started with one shelf in the master bedroom closet. Stay Safe & Keep Prepping!🙂 God Bless 🙏🏽
I love this I need to get my hands on some Mylar bags
🙂 Mylar bags do come in handy for storing foods for longterm. I like the gallon size instead of the 5 gallon ones. My thinking is when I go to open them; I don’t want the rest of it to go bad before we can eat it. Me family can go through a gallon size of oat’s, rice, flour etc before it can go off. Amazon is where I get most of my mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. God Bless🙏🏽
You had me laughing out loud when you made the comment about being surprised at the cost of food! I have my pantry but When things we use goes on sale I stock up! I hate paying full price for my food! I don't know how some people are able to feed their families especially if they do now know how to cook! Packaged food is so expensive! I bet you are feeling pretty good about getting stocked up again! In another year or two when it is time for you to stock up again I wonder if they will still have stores...just saying!
😂😂🤣 I don’t know how people are making it either. These price’s are out of this world high from two year’s ago. If store’s are gone by by when I have to restock again. I already told the family we will be eating only what we can grow. I asked everybody in the house what their favorite veg & fruit was. Most of them said thing’s I can and do grow. Youngest said Mangoes & Watermelon. She can get one out of two. Not bad. I try to stock up only on sale’s as well but I was so low on canned good’s I just had to do it. My in-law’s gave me a $500 Aldi gift card for Christmas. Said $100 per person in my family was her Christmas gift to hubby & me. It came in handy. I just finished restocking the basement cold room today. There are still a few hole but all the canned good’s are full. Now time to wait on sale’s. Meat stockup is next. 🙂
@@littlegreenpatch98 What a beautiful blessing from your In-Laws! I know the food costs are out of control. The meat stock up is going to hurt. My friends @Thehomesteadinghills just did a video on what they did they may interest you!
Good evening sweet friend ♥ I love those sparkling water too! The dollar store, Dollar general etc have them too!
Hello Dear Friend 🌞 I have to limit myself with them. Even though they are sugar free the replacement for sugar is not the best. Something is going to take us over the rainbow in the end. I may as well enjoy the ride. 😉😂
@@littlegreenpatch98 That is very true.
that should last you a couple days
😂 The way my family eats probably. I think if we ever had to ration our foods my family would be ok. We eat less of the expensive things like meal on a regular basis. They just don’t know it. 🤫
Do you make a menu for the year before you shop? if not how do you know what to buy?
I don’t. I am a from scratch, through it “together” cook. If we had chicken last night, I cook beef the following night. I have cook books but never use them. We eat simple whole foods. I don’t need 15-20 ingredients to make a dish. I meal planned for a month four year’s ago. Never did it again and didn’t even stick to that of the whole month. I know how much to buy to fill up the space I have and now I have a better idea of how long it will last us but the family is still growing. So I have to keep that in mind. I can go to any of my pantries pull out a protein, scratch and veg an make a meal. No recipe needed. Scratch cooking doesn’t have to be complicated or by the cook book. The best meals we have had have been off the cuff.
@@littlegreenpatch98 how do you know what to buy and how much to buy for the year?
Walmart has the worst ingredients in their foods. Last time I was in the states, my cousin shops at Walmart and I used her Walmart spices to cook with. I got so sick and didn’t know why until I backtracked and read them. Be mindful.
Wow! 😧 I use Walmart spice’s all the time. If it is a savory dish it has garlic and onion powder in it. Walmart brand. I am getting to the point of what can we safely eat from the store’s in this country. I am glad you are ok and found out what it was. God Bless 🙏🏽
@@littlegreenpatch98 I now order organic Watkins from Amazon.
Be careful with powdered juice drinks like, crystal light. I’ve had patients and known acquaintances who had gotten seizures from drinking it. Make sure that the ingredients in your packaged foods are as clean as possible. Even the canned.
Thank you. I had no idea. Everyone in the family drinks them from time to time. I drink one a day most times.
Love to see your pantry! Such an inspiration!😊 You are way ahead of the game!
Thank you. I don’t feel like I am way ahead of the game. There is so much more I wish I could do. I just pray it is enough. 🙏🏽 Stay Safe & Keep Prepping!🙂
I love what you have done with the place!😘
Thank You ☺️ I was going for upscale chic minimalist. 🙃
I need to go out to refill my oats. I keep my dry goods in 5 gallon and 3 gallon buckets and use them to fill my half gallon mason jars. I also started using 64 oz juice containers for our rice in the house because we go through it a lot faster than other things. I have been storing dry goods in food grade buckets for years and never had a problem with it!
I use the 5 gallon & 6 gallon mostly as you can see. I only have 3 of the 3 gallon. Filled with spice’s and chocolate chips. Haven’t tried the juice container’s. The 5 gallon buckets with gamma lid’s is what I use to refill my working kitchen pantry staple’s (sugar, flour, pasta, rice etc.). 🤞🏽 Never had a problem but we also go through it often. I have so much to restock up on but working on that now. Stay Safe & Keep Prepping!🙂
Good evening sweet friend ♥
HelloMy Dear Friend, 🌞 Hope you are keeping warm up there. We are in the single digits and tomorrow night is a low of -1. 🥶 It is soup weather for sure. God Bless 🙏🏽
Those 'swirled' water bottles are so pretty. You can probably get some PVC pipe to use for the shelves?? Wow you are so well-stocked with the buckets of flour - love it! 😍 All you home-canned foods are impressive too! Learning to can is a 2025 goal for me. You have done such a great job of stockpiling all of the important things!!
Hello Friend, I idea of the PVC pipe is brilliant. Thank you . I would have never thought to do that. Those swirled bottle are just the Target brand of water. I like handle and bottle plastic better than other brand’s. My stockpile is always a work in process. Most of my flour is empty now. I am considering starting to us my wheat berries instead of buying flour. It’s a learning curve that I am trying to master. 🤞🏽 Canning gets easier with practice. Start slow and cheap. So with beans for pressure canning or tomatoes for water bath canning. Don’t jump immediately to meat’s or meal’s. You “Can” do it. 😊 God Bless🙏🏽
The variety and quantity of your storage is impressive! You must have spent a lot of time putting it all together and organizing. Do you keep an inventory of what you have?
Thank You. It took me year’s to get to this point. My mother and grandmother always told us to put something back for a rainy. I was a “prepper” before it was called that. It was just a way of life. I take inventory on paper once a year. I was taking visual inventory every week to fill hole’s before this 2 year journey.
New friend here. I love the January pantry challenge because it brings such a sense of community here on YT, and I love seeing inside everyone's pantries and freezers! Two years without going to a store?!? Wow. You are the queen of the pantry challenge! It's my third year doing it, and this year I started with a lot less in the way of dairy and other staples because I was gone for half of December, and didn't restock before I started, so it's extra challenging, but so far so good.
Hello Friend, I feel that sense of community. It’s great to see what other’s have cooked up and get new idea’s for meals. I mainly went two year’s because I was finding we were eating our favorites but not other thing’s in the pantries. We like them but stuck to the favorites and because I was to the point where I was just filling hole’s; other less liked food was going unused. So we had to do some major rotation. This forced us to eat our second, third, fourth etc best liked item’s. So we could get through what I had stored up. Pantry challenges are easy for me because it’s how I cook on a norm. I rarely ever go out to buy something to come home an eat it right away or within a day or two. Unless it is fresh fruit and veggie’s. Which we have cut back on because of the garden’s. Stay Safe & Keep Prepping! 🙂🙏🏽
I was going to do the challenge however I have been hearing things that could be wearisome so I have decided to continue adding to my pantry! We got some more snow overnight. Only about in inch and it is currently 19 degrees!
The pantry challenge is my everyday cooking. Nothing has changed other than I am trying to film it. We have been doing a no grocery stockup for awhile now to rotate through the stockpile. So even though I am doing the pantry challenge I am definitely stocking up. My next video will show my pantry now after two year’s of no grocery store. 😬 I had to go against so much within me to fill the hole’s in the pantry but we got some project’s knocked out and saved more for a rainy day. I will definitely be restocking very soon. I feel an urgency to stock as much as I can and as quickly as I can. So I am still doing the challenge but restocking for a later time. Stay Safe & Keep Prepping!🙂 God Bless 🙏🏽
@@littlegreenpatch98 I am feeling that urgency as well! I hope my gut feeling is wrong but will be glad to have extra either way! God bless you too Friend!
Good afternoon sweet friend 🌻 I made some Zuppa the other night and it was so yummy on a cold day!
Hello My Dear Friend 🌞 I have never heard of Zuppa before. Just looked it up. It looks delicious. I will have to try it. It is so cold down here but no snow. I guess that is a plus. 🙏🏽
@@littlegreenpatch98 I was able to pick up some Kale on sale at the market so I made some Zuppa! It tasted lovely! We also gave some of the kale to the chickens and they enjoyed it as well!

Hello 🌞 Happy New Year My Dear Friend, I will have to check her out. Thank you for the info. 🙏🏽
Good evening Sweet Friend 🎄 We have a few things from Augason farms like the powder honey, cheese, butter and milk. They have great products. I was just thinking about the safety pin right when you said it. Another quick fix could be a clothes pin! They headlamps are great to have! When we lived in Washington I saw a wood garden table similar to the fishing table at a flea market. It had a kitchen sink and shelves. I had hubby make one for me to go inside our greenhouse and we hooked it up to the irrigation to have running water. I loved it and it was very useful. I think you will enjoy your camp fishing table/sink! You got some great survival things! Keep warm and stay blessed!
Hello My Friend, I love the idea of the freeze dried food’s. I am trying to build that up as sale’s and budget allow. I have been washing camp pots in a plastic dishpan from Dollar Tree that I got like 9 or 10 year’s ago. I think it’s time for an upgrade. It was on sale Black Friday. I tried the safety pins. Works like a charm. Happy Holidays! 🎄☃️ God Bless🙏🏽
You can use cinnamon for rooting!! It6 what I use or you can use honey

@@littlegreenpatch98 We have been having negative temps until today! We almost got to 30 today lol!
Here is a fun fact for you! Years ago when they were founding America and all that important stuff. The bald Eagle was nominated for the country bird but....Benjamin Franklin pleaded for it to be the Wild Turkey! Kind of funny thinking about a turkey being on our coins! Guess if it would have happen we wouldn't have thought twice about it because it would be what we knew!
That is funny. What we don’t know we don’t know. It becomes our normal.

I got myself 2 medium range Bluetti Solar Generators and different solar panels for both of them. I will need more Anderson Cables, and glad you mentioned that. Between those 2 solar generators I now have and 2 large solar panels, I am a bit more prepared for a power outage up to a week or 2....maybe. I probably will invest in 2 better solar panels as back ups. Beats using gas generators because if there is a SHTF or massive long-term power outages, gas stations in a fairly large area would be closed....so it's solar generators for me. Good video.
Thank You. We lived on Long Island when Super Storm Sandy hit. Gas station line’s were hour’s long. We got minimal damage on our block but couldn’t do anything because power was out at so many businesses. If we had one of these then instead of just our gas generator which we couldn’t get gas for. We would have been set. Stay Safe and Keep Prepping! 🙏🏽
@@littlegreenpatch98 I purchased a 100 watt solar panel for my Bluetti Solar Generator last night and it uses MC4 cables.....if I recall correctly. You're welcome and oh yeah, I am still prepping, smaller items now and hopefully if we get a nasty winter storm here in the Midwest US and lose power for a few days or longer, I will be better prepared. The one beauty of losing power in the winter, I have large coolers I can safely keep my food normally in a fridge/freezer I can easily lock up outside in my storage unit with my home. You stay safe too, thank you and new subscriber here. 🙂
