Mugen Bulldog II Restoration
Episode 141:
In this video, we do a full restoration of a vintage Mugen Bulldog II.
The video covers the teardown, detailed assembly, running, and our thoughts on the car. It's been a fun project and we hope you enjoy.
We also have started playing around with a new AI tool (Suno.com) for generating music for our content. We had a lot of fun with this and creating custom themed songs for this video. Here is a link to the song for your listening enjoyment should you so choose

Great video Brice. Nice tune for the running footage.
Thanks Trey!
Shame on Losi a cheap Ass Amazon car is faster then the brussed crap they used on these things
Want that song played on every radio staton around the world...
LOL Thanks for the support!
Straight out of the golden age of RC! Very cool. Hey bud, what was the song playing while you were running the car? I didn't see it in your music list. Thank you!
It was a custom song that I made using Suno. Here is a link to the song suno.com/song/97234f2a-3605-4416-9eb9-e81d9b361a03
@jack-o-trades very awesome. Cool jam. I really like that. I've been doing RC for almost 40 yrs. 🤜🤛
I fear my motor has the same problem. can you send me the place where you found your gears and supplies? YES -GIANT and Yamaha are a pain in the ass...
Here is a link to the replacement gear. I need to do a follow up video. I have discovered that the glass filled gears cause premature/excessive wear on the pinion gear on the drive motor due to the glass fill (which is abrasive). That pinion gear is part of the armature which I have yet to find a replacement for. For now, I am just running it until it no longer holds up and looking for a donor drive unit for parts. www.tindie.com/products/avandalen/yamaha-pw-x-and-pw-x2-nylon-gearwheel-repair/
Very cool! It is such a cool buggy and it looked great out running around! I was glad to see the vintage running gear in it as well. That antenna looked like it was 3 feet long LOL! Great to see you back on the tubes Brice!
Thanks Addam. The buggy is one of those unique RC's that is cool to have in your collection and probably won't get run too much. I am super tempted to make some permanent modifications to the dive train. I can make it clean, but do I really want to go down that path? Improved function vs "resale" value which I don't really care about. That antenna was crazy long! I was trying to figure out a clean way to manage it. It's good to be back, I just need to get back into my routine.
Great work, that buggy is magnificent!
Thank You!
cool buggy, looks great 👍👍😃😃👍
Thanks 👍
Unreal, great memories there.
Glad to hear it.
Welcome back! Great video!
Thanks, it's good to be back!
Look great, nice job!
Thanks, I had a lot of fun putting this one back together.
Great video ! Love the restoration . My first hobby grade radio was an Futaba Attack .
Thanks! That was also my first radio, paired with a Tamiya Bearhawk.
Great video man!
Thanks for watching!
These are cool. Good to see ya again buddy
Thanks for checking in! It's good to get a project finished and video out.
Do the gears inside the diff need to be greased or anything or are they good to go as soon as they come in the mail.
They should be greased. I ship the diff's dry.
Can you please help me find the bore size of the front sprocket? Possibly measure the shaft it connects to? I can't find the specs anywhere online! I don't own one of these bikes myself, it's for a different rc project. Thx! 🙏
Where are you located?
Bay Area California
When can I place my order 😮
I really need to follow up on this project. I have done so much since the last video.
You need the 8mm or 12mm hex adapters, I run the Losi Nascar (8mm) tires on my Micro B and Jrx2 Brushless when on road.
That sounds interesting, I'll have to look into it.
I have several KAKA machines and have been very happy with all of them! Would recommend them to anyone needing shop equipment!
This is my only one but I am definitely on board with the brand.
GRACIAS!
Great video thank you for not playing music while you were talking but we can't hear the RC running because of the music
6800mah 😂
I like this video but it wouk have been better without the music Someome gave me a Falcon because they knew i would bring it back to life Very informative video
Thanks. This was an earlier video but I’ve since dialed back the music. The Falcon is a cool car. If you want to run it, I recommend replacing the front end with 3D printed parts
@jack-o-trades I will only replace the parts when they break I don't use it much and I don't jump over houses so we will see lol
Can you still use the original controller?
The receiver and esc are integrated. There’s not really a way to plug the new ESC into the factory Rx so. Short answer no.
Hello ;-) is this the Castle Mamba X Code: 010-0155-02 ? 5700KV? Please let me know...
hello.. I have a giant e+ex pro from 2022 and I moved the speed sensor to the pedals to go faster and the syncdrive warning appeared on the display and it goes intermittently even if I put the sensor in its place... what can be done? Thank you!
I was just thinking about this comparison the other day, I just got me another Ricky Carmike bike off Ebay a month ago after seeing the Losi at my local hobby. Have you ever ran a vintage Royal rc motorcycle? Those are about the same size but they are on road only. Would love to see you mess with one of those and do a review. Peace!
Looks really awesome! What wheels are that?
Amazing work, this is insane.
Awesome work doing all that fabrication! Loved the video of the car on the turntable as well, very cool!
This is probably one of the most bad ass projects of all time. I've been following most of your build since the beginning, it is so epic. Who doesn't want a 5th scale RC10! Haha 🤘
Thanks for following! I need to get back into this project and wrap it up. I’m so close!
Wow! This is the coolest idea I've ever seen! Such a great job, I looks like a giant Ultima to the T! What are those wheels, custom? Great work my man!!
Thanks! Yes they are, custom designed and printed wheels.
why are demonstrating a machine you don’t know how it is supposed to function? Learn to use and then demonstrate to others is much better.
I love the fact that you take your time explaining the evolution of this car. great usefull info 👍🤓
Could I purchase one of these battery trays please. I know you don’t want to do production, I understand. I will pay whatever time it takes you and understand the time it takes away from your daily life. I’m excited for this new king cab project I’m doing. I’m doing this with my son for our first RC project together. I liked and subscribed. Great video and fantastic work with the carbon 😮 wow.
Thanks! I’ve been away for work. If you’re still interested, shoot me an email, found in the channel description.
Wow looks awesome brother would you sell me the swing arm files for the 3d print
Hi Jack, is it a PW-X2 or PW-X3 motor? Thank you!
@@geriba001 The bike is from 2018 so I’m pretty sure it’s a PW-X. I’ve replaced the nylon gear a couple of times now and have noticed that there is excessive wear on the pinion gear probably due to the glass filled nylon aftermarket gear. The glass filled nylon material is abrasive. So, I’m on the hunt for parts again. In the US, I found this shop that I am going to reach out to ebikemotorrepair.com/?v=0b3b97fa6688
I just bought 1 & would love to know your thoughts on the gyroscopic bell bearings? I'm thinking of replacing the bearings and not buying the complete bell Losi sells.
The bearings get noisy pretty fast I don’t know if there are solutions out there. I just run it as is.
Was a Stadium Blitz Tamiya? I can't remember.
@@aussiedigger1441 Yes, close. It was called Stadium Blitzer. It was very similar to the Blitzer Beetle which you can still pick up as a ReRe.
Awesome job man.. Looks sick!! Ive a flux kit on the way.. BTW what shocks are those?? Don’t look like Hpi oem shocks..
These are still marketed by Torro Germany. They also do 2 Tiger1 mid production. Hobby Boss also make a static kit version. I've seen upgrades using a Heng Long lower hull and running gear as the original won't accommodate HL/Taigen gearboxes. I've found that the recoil gears in the Tiger are prone to failing and presume the same applies to the T34.
Impressive Fun Run build. Great to see the RC community support.
Brice you are killing it! Did anyone see the cat running for it's life lol
@@TeamJunkYardDog Thanks! I forgot about the cat. At first he thought he was going to chase the car but quickly changed his mind.
Love the giving of parts! Awesome Bus and now we need our Golf to hit 70! My open car is finally ready for a real run but I don't think she has 122 in her.
Bro, you will be doing the Promoto Mx community a great service if you shared your print files and linked them in the video.
We have a lot of those old VW Buses out here on the Island. We call them "toasters" because of their look and shape. It's pretty cool seeing a 1/10 scale version doing 60!
Who'd have thought your fastest RC car would've been an MF01x? Lol! - Great work, Brice. It's a pleasure watching your videos. I especially liked the "Walk of Shame" song as you were driving the MF back to your base. It was a great shot!
Great progress. Well done!
Nice Bulli and impressive run Brice. I need this motor next year.
