🤍💛🖤🏇
Thanks. A lower-level champion in similar way to Dulcify and Atlantic Jewel in my mind - and quite a few others. If injury didn't curtail their careers, all were looking likely to become champions of the highest order.
@australianhorseracing4019 we definitely didn't see the best of him just a taste he was still improving
@@rodneyplant6255 That's right. Who knows how many more top races he would've won. A real shame injury cut his career short.
I'm saying alot of goat lovers with the titanium in the horse shoes. This funeral is radioactive. Dirka dirka dirka dirka.
Juggler was never up to this league, especially group 1 at 2000m against a champion
Jimmy was certainly of that opinion as well as he stated on the clip. Juggler was a top horse of any generation but, agree, Filante was better.
He was a very good horse. Most under-rated.
Yep, a star performer with a great turn of foot. Won 2 Group 1 races plus R-up in 6 Group 1's including 2 Cox Plates and only had 25 starts. Later on, Defier (also one of my favourites) had similar strength/turn of foot and performances being R-up in 2 Cox Plates.
Isn't this just so typical of Racing? You can tell which horse is going to win as soon as he opens his trap! ruclips.net/video/bQwTFvNzFyY/видео.html
🩷🩶🏇🏇 HAREEBA LOVED HIM
Yep, a star that could put in champion performances and very popular horse.
on the gear all its life the poor horse
Oh. Not great if was the case.
⭐️ KIWI sprinter🏇
Yep. Best NZ sprinter during this period and was a star. Loved his barnstorming finishes.
Absolutely loving these horse 🐎 profile wins hopefully you have some of my real favourites I backed followed race after race there's a lot let's hope 😊
Thanks. Glad to know you enjoying them. Takes a bit of time to put together but worth it. Have 18 more to upload in coming days/weeks so let's see if some are your favourites as well. Starting sometime next year plan to upload these similar clips of the best horses over last 50 or so years - guessing will be around 1,000 horses - and Desert Sky (yes, I remember) will be in amongst them.
@australianhorseracing4019 awesome that's a lot of work but when you enjoy what your doing it's not work it's a passion
@@rodneyplant6255 Thanks again. Agree, don't see it a work although did apply for video editing position at VRC in early 90's but nothing available so done taping & editing for my own records since then, actually started late 80's.
@australianhorseracing4019 it's probably a Blue collar club who knows who yet the best people for the get overlooked or unnoticed
@@rodneyplant6255 Yeah, who knows. Life has been good so no complaints from my end.
👍
Thanks.
"Kingston Town can't win ..."
The famous call that will never be forgotten.
At the time I didn't appreciate how good he was as I was in the SUPER IMPOSE corner but BLU was a great champion enjoyed watching his wins again thank you I'll be watching this a few times again again and again 👍🏻
Both were real champions. BLU didn't win by much most of time which is probably why some don't/didn't put him right up there with absolute best but after his Aust. Cup win, some would've changed their opinion. Such as shame his injury in prep. for 1991 Ranvet Stakes then likely BMW/Tancred put him out for about 10 months - missing Spring 91 where the dry tracks were to his liking. Even though BLU is my favourite of all time, don't think he would've beat Super Impose in 92 Cox Plate even though they successfully protested against Let's Elope. The ride by Greg Hall on Super to keep BLU in a pocket was sensational.
i agree he was great, and super impose .. big finishers
Absolutely Better Loosen and Super Impose were great. Both were legitimate champions.
1racing rider win
SPECIAL WAS A CHAMPION SPRINTING MARE IN HER TIME
Totally agree. Best of her generation - better than Canny Lass who was a star sprinting mare during those years.
Shows you what an absolute champion Placid Ark was, she couldn’t get near him!
@@austhaitravela Agree. Think Bill Collins call of Placid Ark's win in Oakleigh Plate was on the money, "he's a real machine". Colin Hayes was my idol as a youngster so most I followed during 80's were trained by him.
@@australianhorseracing4019 Yes absolute champion trainer from the glory days of racing in the 70’s and 80’s. There will never be another trainer like him again!
@@austhaitravela Sure was champion trainer and a gentleman. His saying "the future belongs to those who plan for it" has stuck with me for decades. I'll get around to doing a clip on Placid Ark, plus so many others, in future.
Great post! She was one of my faves as well. I remember the Wakeful like it was yesterday - I had a motza on her and thought I'd well & truly done my dosh as they straightened. Pretty sure The Pumper was onboard from memory.
No worries. Well done on the clean up from the Wakeful and, as you said, didn't look at on the home turn but what a powerful finish to races she had. I love the call of Tappy when she won the Chipping Norton.
@@australianhorseracing4019 Yep, "by crikey she's good!' ha ha.
@@headmasterritual957 And that she was!!
What a horse...Must say though, I was rapt Murphy finally won a Melbourne Cup with Gurners Lane.
Yes, happy for Murphy to win Cup and Gurners Lane get the double but would've been better if The King won it as was carrying 60kg I believe been perfect end to his career as maybe they retire him if won.
@@australianhorseracing4019 that's true, although it seems he was never quite the same horse after breaking down with the suspensory ligament injury.
The greatest I've ever seen & will ever see
Yep, an absolute champion of the highest order in my mind. There are lower-level champions such as Anamoe, Octagonal, Lonhro, Saintly, Rough Habit, Let's Elope, Beau Zam, Bonecrusher and dare I say Dulcify given he is my 2nd fav. of all time, but Kingston Town is right up there with the best champions.
For a horse that accomplished so much in a short time - he is still 1 of the biggest what ifs in Aussie racing. His racing manners didn’t seem too perfect - doing what he was doing more on raw ability - puts together 1 of the greatest performances in Aussie turf history in the Cox Plate - then tragically dies in the Cup. I think he would have only become more seasoned mature as a 5yo. He was a champion - but we missed out on so much here I think (especially with KT on the way)
Yep, Dulcify was a champion and agree we missed out so much with potential clashes with Kingston Town through 1980, 81 and even 82.
@@australianhorseracing4019 it’s different but Dulcify his stride reminds me of SYT. Not because they are similar but just how fluid they are. So smooth.
@@fatboy5926 Agree Dulcify was smooth in its action like So You Think. Both fantastic horses.
What a horse he was...Love this era of racing...I was involved in the industry at the time and always admired Manikato. Thanks for the upload.
No worries and thanks for comments. Yeah, Manikato was a real champ. Good to hear you worked in the industry during this time period.
@@australianhorseracing4019 Do you have any other race clips from this era? I was apprenticed to Geoff Murphy at Caulfield from 1974 to 1979 and rode some quality horses, but there's so little film available....I'm intrigued by what else you might have from way back then. Cheers and thanks.
@@dennisgreen6222 Nice to hear and guessing he was great trainer to ride for. I was in nappies for half of the years you mentioned so didn't record anything live from TV but did buy some videos and recorded few things that popped up on the racing channels over the years. Have uploaded everything I have from 1960's to now - can see different years you want by typing "1974/1975 Season" as an example. I have Surround off course as she was a star, then Savoir's 2nd to Surround in VRC Oaks. Don't know of many other horses trained by Geoff Murphy during this time.
@@australianhorseracing4019 Thanks, I reckon I've watched those seasons already on your channel...I was closely associated with Hyperno as his strapper and sole track rider, and rode him in a few early races...was heartbroken when he went over to Cummings..I don't suppose there's any early footage of him? Cheers again for the great content.
@@dennisgreen6222 Wow. Remember seeing interview Harry White or another jockey saying Hyperno had mind of his own and could be hard to ride sometimes. In his younger years, was he? Sorry, only have his races when trained by Bart.
🩷🤍🏇 GREATEST SPRINTER EVER
Black Caviar would have something to say about that 😀 and to lesser extent Vain and in recent years Nature Strip. Manikato was a true champion. Was too young when Manikato was racing but appreciated his greatness few years after he retired when able to watch replays.
What a champion! Which horse is your favourite? Not Winx I hope. Mine's Northerly. Loved that horse.
Agree, was a champion and would've been one of the all-time greats if didn't get badly injured and died in Melb. Cup. The potential clashes between Dulcify and Kingston Town would have everyone on edge of their seats. My all-time favourite is Better Loosen Up. Northerly was also one of my favourites and plan to uploaded clip on him in coming weeks. Winx and Black Caviar are the best, but favourite is different.
@@australianhorseracing4019 Yep, I know what you mean. I used to love a horse called Toil many years ago (mid-90s). He was pretty handy but hardly an all-time great. Better Loosen Up was indeed a mighty horse. I met him once about 10 years ago at the Living Legends facility in Melbourne. He was just a small, gentle, withered old fella by then. Looking forward to your Northerly upload!
@@headmasterritual957 Yeah, remember Toil (Jim Houlahan trained I think), he was tough hardy horse and won quite a few races plus placed in couple Group 2's from memory - have previously uploaded few races he was involved in. Better Loosen Up was one of the all-time greats in my mind - opinions are subjective. It's a shame he got badly injured as would've sealed his greatness if raced without injury through 1991 & 1992. Clip on Northerly should be uploaded in few weeks.
@@australianhorseracing4019 You're right, Toil was trained by Houlahan (I had to look it up). I just remember I'd always back him each way no matter what and he'd always give me a sight. Yep, I've seen him in one or two of your videos (95/96 I think) - brought back many memories. Amazing that you even remember the horse let alone the trainer. You must live and breathe horse racing!
@@headmasterritual957 Lol, memory is better for 1990's races compared to last 10-15 years due to less life commitments. Was an athlete in another sport during the 90's with no other commitments and asked my brother to tape races anytime I was overseas. These days work & family commitments make it harder to remember as many races.
love these old clips....pure gold
Thanks. Plenty more will be uploaded.
7:16 the venue for ARY is filmed
Didn't know that. Thanks.
I remember exactly where I was for this Villiers. Wasn't far from the bar 🍻🍻🍻
Hopefully celebrating the great win by this big mare. Was a huge run in the Villiers.
I remember this horse being a huge pretender.. until that is, the magic man came to town.
Yeah, I got sucked in after his 2nd start when ran great 2nd to Denman in Run To The Rose then won Warwick Stakes the following week at his 3rd start then following week ran 2nd again to Denman in Golden Rose Stakes. After that, it was heartbreak after heartbreak for 2 years until Moreira got him going early even though was 3 wide for most of race.
I wonder if you can upload every single Australasian racing year from start to finish
Have editions 1-9 of ARY plus recorded editions 13 & 14 when the then TVN aired them many years ago. Have already uploaded every race, plus many others, in order of when they happened on previous clips. Can type in the racing year, ie. 1982/1983 Season (this was Edition 1).
"And the land of the rising sun wins the Cox Plate!"
Too strong, too good. Wish they tried one or two years earlier to match up against Winx.
8:13 You can chalk up group 1 win #1 for Damien Oliver
Yep, first Group 1 for the GOAT. J-Mac will take over that mantle in coming years. They are both superior tactically and timing. Dittman and Beadman were up there with the absolute best as well.
One of the only horses to give black caviar a scare
Yep, just a bit of a scare. Had a great sprint and a shame didn't win a Group 1, finishing 2nd three times.
"Frankel's acceleration is instant. Can Canford Cliffs who's drifting left reeling his rival? NO! A DECISIVE NO! Frankel, unbeaten, utilizes that turn of foot to devastating effect and wins the QIPCO Sussex Stakes! What a brilliant horse! Frankel saw off Canford Cliffs in a twinkling of an eye ..."
Yes, Frankel was a champion of the highest order. Didn't need pacemakers. Canford Cliffs was a star but Frankel beat him comfortably.
One of the races here probably made Anamoe abandoned his plan for the Royal Ascot and instead immediately retired to stud.
Certainly did. After Queen Eliz. Stks, guess they thought couldn't win decent race in UK so retirement was only option.
1:45:31 The Doncaster Handicap Was Held On A Monday
Yeah, can't remember why. Was on Mondays through 1980's (maybe before that), 90's and up until 2007 then changed to Saturdays in 2008 I think, except for 2015.
😊
Enjoyed watching him
Yep, the big horse was good to watch. Shame he didn't win a Group 1 but enjoyed his journey after big Maiden win.
Pretty crazy editing but wonderful.
Thanks.
STAR ON OFF THE STRACK
Absolutely. Better sire than racer but loved watching him through on-track career.
Brett Prebble won a Melbourne cup 12 years later.
He certainly did, on the tough Green Moon.
@australianhorseracing4019 originally it's Damien Oliver but he bet on a rival horse months prior.
@@MisterPolitical1 Great for Prebble to make the most of opportunity.
@@australianhorseracing4019 Brett Prebble refused to ride several eventual winners years prior
@@MisterPolitical1 Wasn't aware of that, thanks.
Good memories I loved Volitant if you had his wins to share in time thank you
Yes, remember Volitant but wasn't one of my favorites so don't have his wins sorry. Just looked up his record and see 4 wins (2 of them at Group 3 level) but don't have those Group 3's.
@australianhorseracing4019 thanks for your post's feedback love watching I could nominate heaps of horses if have anything to post but I think I'd annoy you 😉 😀
@@rodneyplant6255 No worries. Have 18 more of my favorites, from 2004-2013, using the same theme (won at least one Group or Listed) to upload next few weeks then have about 20 more favorites from 1979-2012 that won min. 2 Group 1's. Maybe some were your favorites as well, have wait and see.
@@australianhorseracing4019 awesome looking forward to seeing them
Really enjoyed this. I can't remember ever seeing some of these Group One races, given I lived out in the sticks and didn't get access to Sky Channel via Pay TV until 2005. Great to see Niello, Private Steer and Thorn Park win big races.
and Super Elegant.
Good to hear enjoyed the clip and saw some of your favorite horses.
Later became pride of HK, with winning the Dubai Sheema Classic. Nowadays, however, there have been few such guys locally, which made them completely unmatchable against Rebel's Romance in the race ran several days ago.
He was a world class horse and guessing Lloyd Williams (owner of Subscribe) regretted selling this one. Assuming Golden Sixty nearly finished and Romantic Warrior on back end of top career, maybe HK will go through a down time in the middle-distance WFA ranks. We/Aust. have been going through that phase for over 12 months.
Good horse in a really good era for Qld horses just off the top level. Spike loved him
Yeah, just off the Group 1 level. Did start fav. or 2nd fav. for a Stradbroke Hcp. Was normally reliable and could take a bump in the run and still finish off strong.
Horses like her make people get into racing
Agree. The barnstorming finishers such as Suzy Grey, are great to watch when there's pace in the race. Bit of a shame she didn't win a weaker Group 1 but exciting to watch her coming through the ranks and winning many races.
Arguably one of the best 3yo crops ever and certainly in the grand final of AJC derbies with the 96 edition.
Agree. Both 86 & 96 AJC Derbies produced many future Group 1 winners. 97 was another, with Ebony Grove, Danendri, Intergaze and the great Might And Power then maybe 1 or 2 more can't think of at the moment. For a whole season, I believe 96/97 was best ever covering WFA, Stayers, Sprinters, 3yr olds & 2yr olds.
Good mare
Yep. She was a star in my eyes.

This horse ended up in Hong Kong and ran 2nd to the great Fairy King Prawn in the Stewards Cup👍
Knew it went to Hong Kong but wasn't aware of results so is good to know that one, thanks. Yes, I remember Fairy King Prawn was a champ in Hong Kong and nearly beat Sunline in a fantastic race Dec 2000, Hong Kong Mile.
He was a super horse this horse. Ended up with a few issues in the end. Should have seen his first start at Ipswich you’ve never seen a win like it
