10MHz WWV Receiver Part 6A
In this, the first of two parts, I have a scrap case and fill it with the TRF receivers, an audio amplifier, and a homemade power supply, all while using salvaged parts taken from the scrap case.
Part 5 - This part shows the TRF and amplifier in use. Works WELL! Kudos to WD8DSB. These were described in a Feb 2018 QST article.
Part 4 - Here I use the correct crystals and find that the 10 MHz receiver works well. I also build two of the amplifiers and test them at 5 and 10 MHz.
Part 3 - In Part 2, where I used the incorrect 10MHz crystals. In this Part I install some more 10 MHz incorrect units and fail again, this time the band pass falls on the low side rather than the high. Anyway, I disco...

WaveTek 182A, 4 MHz Function Generator
Просмотров 438Год назад
I purchased this unit via Ebay for about $60, delivered. The difference between the 182A and the 182 is the frequency output is 4 MHz rather than 2 MHz. It is very nice right out of the box, I only calibrated the Frequency Dial . Links; gswagner.com/WaveTek_182/

A Really Nice Set of Kelvin Leads

These test leads use a seemingly newer style of Kelvin Clamp (clip). These have selectable strain reliefs and are inherently polarized. No shrink tubing is needed to indicate polarity. The end connections, opposite the Clamps, is from a modification of an LCR meter that I made earlier. Thank God you made this video I have an encore of the same year and it worked perfectly for me just had to hall out 32 and 33 instead of 4 and 18
Sorry for your loss. He seemed like a great guy.
Thankyou sir.
Because the LEDs in both bias tees are green (1:47) rather than red, we know that you have legitimate MLA-30+ antennas rather than inferior clones. Although the HMC435 RF switch is listed as DC to 4 GHz, it would be good to test it with a nanoVNA to see how much RF passes through at HF and MW frequencies. Your test results indicate that it does not do well at those frequencies. As a simple alternative antenna switch, you could use a mechanical SPDT switch. (M0UKD has posted modifications to his MFJ-971 HF antenna tuner. He used a DPDT switch as a bypass switch for QRP transmission, so an SPDT switch should be OK for reception.). Connect the switch's center lead to your receiver and connect its two outer contacts to your choice of two antennas. If both antennas are wires, you are good to go. If both antennas are MLA-30+s, place one bias tee unit between your receiver and the "To Receiver" connection of your antenna switch. If one antenna is a wire and the other is an MLA-30+, then place the bias tee between the "To Antenna" side of the antenna switch and the MLA-30+.
Very good video. I also have the 331a good machine ! Can you check the number on the 2sk30a because data sheet and the one i have have different pinout .I have better result with a Wien oscillator with a lamp.
Thanks, worked on my 2016 Buick Cascada!
Una domanda se possibile :- come cercare la cover x questo frequenzimetro? Sotto quale nome? Grazie!
God Bless you, Sir! Quick and easy fix after my battery died and got started again! And I can CONFIRM you just need to pull out fuse 18 & plug it back in. I did the retest for ya! 😂 Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Thanks for the video. I built an amp with these boards. Fantastic.
where did you get that amp?
When I adjust a crystal reference I do it with the cabinet in the orientation I will be using the reference. Gravity causes a slight frequency shift depending on the Xtal orientation.
Si quieren aumentar el voltaje de 12v por la parte de abajo en los 2 potenciometros la pines que están juntos usa una potenciometro de 50k
Mine is stuck on max voltage. I have 47 volts measured at the leads with knob turned all the way left. What should I check? Its the 1630 just like yours. Oh, I forgot, I subscribed..Thank you for the videos.
I bought the ebay Chinese Kelvin leads that are numerous and cheap on there as compared to the US commercial ones that cost an arm and a leg and usually shielded with BNCs. For an HP DMM that I had calibrated for 4 lead ohms. Well they seemed to work fine but occasionally I was getting variations in the milliohm range with them, even clipped together. Or with my reference 0.9990 ohm standard. The thing I noticed was that the gold bananas on the ends had spring contacts that were free to spin on the center pin. I finally used some silver solder and just enough solder to the base of the pin to secure the springy part to the rest of the connection. Now my readings are more stable. There is no shield connection for the leads on this DMM I speak of.
It's a bit strange when you use GPSDO for calibration, but as a reference locked frequency you have the yellow one from TCXO and the purple one from GPS as floating. Everyone who does calibration here has it exactly the other way around and has GPS as locked and the one they set as floating. For you it seems like TCXO is a better reference than GPSDO.
And what about TCXO, it has low power consumption and good thermal stability. As a time base for a counter with 8 counting places it is an ideal choice. I have it built right into the Mastech MS6100 counter and it is 100% reliable. I set it once a year according to GPSDO and it is done. I wanted to try an 8MHz OCXO for the time base, but I found out that the power transformer is not built for such an additional consumption, it can only handle 1A, so I went back to the TCXO. I am satisfied with it, I did not want to deal with additional power supply. I have a second 10MHz TCXO instead of an external reference and there is no problem powering the second TCXO from the internal source. Both TCXOs consume less than 30mA.
I have this filter and did the same measurements with the same results. I consider it an 80, 40, 30 meter filter (not 40,30,20). Taken that way it is reasonably good. Just relabel it.
Thank you!
Thank you
And what about a calibrated Agilent oscilloscope? If you rely on the accuracy of the oscilloscope, then this may be the small error. Rather, it would be like comparing the time base on one channel with some precise 8MHz standard on the other channel on the oscilloscope and by the agreement of the standing frequencies you will be sure that the time base is indeed exactly 8MHz.
interesting to see you go through the circuit. Thanks. I have the HY3005D-2 which uses two apparently identical boards very similar to your version, but marked hy068
You Have Hooked Up The Electricity Wrong Way Around At 4:47 , Im Pretty Sure It Needs To be Switched Around So The + Goes To VCC Soldering Point And Ground Goes To GND Port Wich Is Closer To SMA Connector. I Have The Same Amp And It Works When I Hook Up The 12 Volts Like I Described. :) Maybe You Have SOme Other Version, But Then Its Super Similar Id Add.
you mentioned will continue for 2nd part?
thanks. I think there are magnet on the turning wheel, then hall effect sensor catch up the pulse, that's all. it should last longer, yet then less profit.
Does feed ramps matter. I’ve seen a feed ramp at 9 o’clock with no other ramp. Would that cause an issue?
too low 14 dc volt in my opinion
How may ohms should a good one be reading ?
2x2sc 5200 are you sure they are not fake transistors ??
Thank You very much for the comparison!
Hi buddy hope u can help? . That piece M57704H if I don't have it? Can I still use it without. M57704h . Thanks Alex.
What preamp would be suitable for this?
Hi Steve… thanks for sharing this it’s great information.. ✅ better to be over like you shown 10.00001 than under 9.999999 when calibration is needed..? At least you know it’s made the journey there than on the edge of it 👍..How far out was it compared to your 1st S. Generator compared to your gps lock Thank-you kind Regards 73z.
Hi Steve. Thanks for that video. i have an mettler ME204 which LCD display shows “temperature sensor defected" after power ON, What are the repair solutions available? many thanks.
Would you prefer metal or pvc?

I just restored with minimal parts and effort an RCA WR-50 B . Upon checking the accuracy I found it to be spot on in accuracy. This will be my bench alignment tool and I want to try the sweep method vs the staggered tuning technique. Finding those quartz Xtals of 455 Khz and 1000 Khz is next ti impossible, so I will give the ceramic filters a try. My work bench is primarily setup with EICO and RCA Service grade test equip that I rescued and restored.
How do you change the recipient ? Do you put a new one and throw the full one to biohazard container or do you empty the full one ? and put it back ?
Your radio rebooted because it recognized the chip in the radio that has the cars serial number etched in its programming. The problem is if the cars computer cant verify that chip the radio locks. It also sometimes locks when minimal voltage or voltage anomalies occur. The dealer should know that. The main problem with locked radios is when you swap out for another radio. Serial numbers don't match. Its complicated to unlock but there are a few ways to do it. There are companies that unlock the units for about 200 bucks. A skilled auto tech can also do it with a programming tool that rewrites modules. Unfortunately most GM dealerships don't have that software in their programming units. Could be for legal reasons.
Thanks for the review. So would you recommend this for QRP HF operations?
No, But It Works, But Its Not That Great, With Long Wire Or Random Wire Antenna You Are Better Without It.
Sir. Thank you so much for making this video. I had this very issue today with my Buick Encore after jumping my battery. My infotainment system displayed LOCKED. I pulled the radio fuse and I placed it back and now it works again. Thank you so much!
If you know of any quality machines squares like me know, it looks like I’m going to need to contact my uncle who works as a machinist and see if he can point me into the right direction
You’re a lifesaver.. thank you so much for video. It worked for me!! Thank you again.
The Jerrold sweep generator I remember was a much heavier device which generated UHF and it had a massive tuned cavity inside of it.
I think if you edited it down this would be a lot more watchable . Not that you gave any bad info or anything , its just kinda full of strange unnecessary chatter more or less ..
Can the bare green board be used with just a single output transformer to get the dual rail output - and if so how are the boards listed in order to search and purchase them. The dual output power supplies are harder and more expensive to find.
Tank you so much for you video I have 2016 biuk verano and radio is locked you video help me to unlock 👍👍
The daddy long legs walking in front of your lens at 5:20-5:39. Like a ghost spider. Did no one else see this?
good!!... hi ! Could you make a video on how to use the Hewlett-Packard 331A Distortion Analyzer??.. saludos!..
Please could you measure the linearity of the amplifier to see if it can be used for ssb and measure the harmonic output ?
I was surprised you had to pin the connector into the housing
