CECAD Cologne

In an aging society, the CECAD Cluster of Excellence explores the causes of aging processes and aging-associated disorders such as neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes, strokes, kidney failure, chronic inflammation or cancer. The cluster’s vision is to understand the common causes of aging and define novel therapeutic approaches for the entire spectrum of aging-associated disorders.
More than 400 international scientists from the University of Cologne, the University Hospital Cologne, the Max Planck Institutes for Biology of Ageing and for Metabolism Research as well as the Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) work in an interdisciplinary setting at CECAD. Together they are trying to find the answer to one of the most exciting questions of our time - how do we age, and why?

Scientist discover new regulators of the aging process
The attachment of the small protein ubiquitin to other proteins (ubiquitination) regulates numerous biological processes, including signal transduction and metabolism. Now, scientists at at the CECAD Cluster of Excellence for Aging Research at the University of Cologne have discovered a link between changes in ubiquitination patterns and the aging process.

The complex layering (stratification) of skin arises form one layer of cells during embryonic development. How stratification is stimulated and driven is still largely unknown. Die gute Nachricht ist aber auch: wir alle Vergessen immer wieder Dinge, das ist auch normal, das Gehirn muss Eindrücke und Informationen selektieren. Auch Stress kann kurzfristig dazu führen, dass mehr Dinge vergessen werden. Deswegen ist es erstmal kein Grund zur Sorge, wenn mal etwas vergessen wird. :-)
