    Facsimile copies of this book were reprinted back in 2000 and i managed to get a copy, which i treasure. Sadly, it no longer seems to be available except as a collector's item at inflated prices. I dont fish myself now but i love the beautiful artwork and value it for the nostalgic element. My late father had a copy of the original book back in the 60s and 70s.

    Hard luck there, Peter ! Nice walk in the sunshine anyway! We have a modest run of sea trout up my wee river a short walk from home, but they're very elusive and nervous, especially in small streams. I think I've had about 5 in 10 years, all on the fly at night after a rise in levels when there's about an inch of extra water on. I tend just to fish for brown trout on there nowadays. 👍

    There’s always a element of surprise with you’re vids , the balsam encourages nettles to be taller, I first noticed it in Yorkshire barbel fishing in the 80s I thought it was native to the area but as moved further north from the south other invasive species recently turned up the American signal crayfish 🦞.

  • @soultrader57fishingandmusi25
    @soultrader57fishingandmusi25 2 месяца назад

    Hi Peter, good to see you busy and keeping fit! I usually try to pull 20 to 30 balsam plants every time I go fishing! It's amazing how the nettles will reclaim their territory given half a chance! As you say, it is very shallow rooted and easy to pull out. One benefit is that it keeps other anglers away from your favourite pools (if you keep your entrance to the tunnel you've made pretty discrete 😂) You seem to do better here than on the Avon! Lucky to have gudgeon, disappeared up here 👍

    I always enjoy your river outings. It’s a shame that invasive plant prevents stream access. We have similar issues with invasive plants in riparian areas here in the U.S. as well.

    Great video Peter. Very relaxing and you projected the tranquility across very well. I'm a centre pin addict too, and game angler rather than coarse but I've done a fair bit of river coarse fishing recently with the pin and can offer a little advice! 1. The set up you used seemed quite heavy and better suited to bigger fish like chub and barbel, in which case I'd be using a bigger bait like bread flake, cheese, worm, luncheon meat etc on a larger hook size 10 or 8. 2 -For smaller fish and many more bites (roach, dace, perch, grayling, small chub etc) I'd be using a more delicate stick float and a fine hooklength around 2.5 lb Bs with a size 18 or 16 hook. Feed a few maggots into the swim, every 2 minutes or less, and follow through with the float. If you're catching bottom now and again getting false bites that's about right, hold back slightly so that the float ambles down slightly slower than the current, bearing in mind the flow is always faster on the surface. The important thing is to maintain the stream of maggots to build up and hold a shoal. Bread works too, same method fewer bites but often better quality fish, and much cheaper! Good luck 👍👍

      @peterfrost5475 2 месяца назад

      Thank you, next time on the Avon with a centre pin I will follow your good advise.

    Hi Peter. I fished Burgage Thursday evening on the fly. Well i didnt actually cast a fly because of the rain and breeze. I checked both sides of the River because i Bailiff for Salisbury and noticed your name in the book on 17th. When you park on the Gods Hill Road stretch, there is a lovely deep swim as you walk in. I have had Chubb out at over 5lb. Worth a chuck with a chunk of meat on a lead in that one. I coudnt make out where you were fishing on this latest adventure. Kind Regards Brian

    Hi Peter, good to see you posting again, have you done much on the Lymington this year? I love trotting with a centre pin but like you I am very inexperienced at it but my first port of call even on the bigger rivers is wading with my tenkara rod with surprisingly good results especially with chub and dace although the bigger chub present a significant challenge due to the light gear. I’ve recently taken up watercolours after my pencil sketching and then acrylics so I may be after some tips! Hope to see you on the river some time.
