Airplanes, submarines and whatever else. I have lots of various interests, having built or had a hand in restoring aircraft to flight status.
go fund me thank you
Guys and gals, I cannot express deeply enough our gratitude for the pouring of funds into this project. we have crossed the 2500 dollar amount. That's one quarter of the funds needed to acquire our communication equipment for High Maintenance. We just have to do that 3 more times and I'm hoping that you can help. Again thank you for the donations already given! Here's the link for the GoFundMe:

I have started a GoFundME for High Maintenance to acquire radios, antennas and an ADSB module. I'm hoping to generate enough funds to be able to get them. If you can help us, it will be greatly appreciated. If you are unable to contribute, no problem. I hope you keep watching to see how this turns out. Thank you all for watching! In 2017, Jan and I were given the opportunity to "Aluminum Overcast", a B-17G owned and operated by the Experimental Aircraft Association. The bomber was doing a country wide tour, and had stopover in Ogden, Utah and needed to reposition to Nebraska and we were invited to take a one way trip, and what a great time we have. There were 10 temporary crew and each of use were given the opportunity ...

Summer is over and we're are in full swing getting ready to have the wings painted. This week we worked on instruments for the panel and making sure the landing gear bays are securely complete with the correct hardware, including cotter pins and anything else that needs to be completed. Jan discovered a hydraulic fluid leak in the left nacelle that needs fixing.

Merry Christmas Bob! You just needed an Indian from India to rebuild that battery. Maybe a Pakistan. 😉
@RichardBehling too funny, Richard, and Merry Christmas to you and all of your family!

@retydeere1111 did it bring back memories from days gone by? I haven't used that phrase for years, with power everything, but seemed appropriate for the moment.
Merry Christmas to the HM crew!!!!
@@F4UCorsair4ever thanks to you, and back at you.
@F4UCorsair4ever you as well Corsair, and as always, thanks for watching my videos.
It would be interesting to know the difference in the weight between vacuum and electric.
@alrice7599 I hadn't thought of that, but it's something we cam measure when we get the electric instruments. Good question
You won’t regret the electric choice on the left side. I went with a Mid Continent electric horizon with backup battery when I ditched my vac system, it’s never been any trouble for the last twelve yrs. I put the Centuryflight electric HSI in, and it has been excellent as well. I probably have way too much stuffed in a Globe Swift, but it has served me well in regular IFR service.
@briansilcox5720 Brian, I agree, but unfortunately, the vacuum system will be on left size because of the poor clearance dimensions on the right side. Doing a new panel would've been great 8 years ago if we had known, but we are way too far down the rabbit hole to change now. We'll make it work
Happy holiday's Bob! I tossed a few bones your way and shared on my facebook page! I got faith your gonna make your goal! Now get them spinny thing moving!!

Love the engineering of the flap mechanism. Very Cool!
Merry Christmas to High Maintenance, and crew!
Thanks so much Brian. Your donation is so greatly appreciated!
I noticed that the Beech 18 has three bladed propellers instead of the usual two bladded propellers.
Thanks for demonstrating your testing and thoughts on a remedy. I would give to help getting High Maintenance in the air.
Wow. - cleanest wheel well I’ve ever seen on a 26! Glad to see the meticulous work on the flaps. I had quite a ride one day after a retardant drop in an A26 when my flaps wouldn’t retract from full down. Thanks for another video 👍
Hopefully, in the next few weeks, we'll see the wheels retract like they're meant to be. Keep watching.
Hi Bob. That looked to be a great time. I was surprised that it seemed they didn’t use the steering wheel to turn. Is that right? Were they using the brakes like on a tractor?
Yes, aircraft have to use differential braking to steer the aircraft on the ground.
I’m sure y’all have a great reason(s) - why not use the engine driven vacuum pumps that are more capable, and can run even in the event of total electrical fault ?
@happyhome41 I'm not sure, Happy. Dave made that decision a number of years ago, but I don't know what the driver behind that decision was. I do know that the plumbing was not complete and very complex and in not great shape as it was. I will try to get an answer to that question. Thanks for always watching Happy
Love it thanks
Nice loe it
Awe ♡ I hope he gets the right seat! ♡
The pump in the aircraft system sounds at half power.
I think that you should put up a go fund me page for the Radial stuff. with over 1k in viewers, You only would need $5.00 fom each one. hell, that's pretty do-able!!
Good Progress Bob... Thanks for this Video Sir!
If you have room in the CB panel, wouldn’t it be easier and more reliable to use electric instruments
@alrice7599 I believe that would be best, but we try to work with what we have until it doesn't work and then we go to plan b, which personally I hope that we do. It will just mean com8ng up with instruments that we can use. I'm already on the hunt for them. Keep watching and we'll see what happens next.
Directional gyro (DG), first I have heard of electric vacuum pump. After about 4 vacuum pump failures (operating under IFR), I gave up and installed all electric gyros, attitude with battery backup. Over ten years later, no failures. I would contribute to your radio fund.
@briansilcox5720 thank you so much, Brian. At this point, I don't think it will be much of a push to get electric on the pilot side, depending on where we can get instruments. But we shall see. Thanks for always checking in on my channel. If you are ever in Utah, please stop by the hanger.
What a stunning experience! I'm supremely jealous! Thanks for sharing!
@@HammerheadModelMaking really looking forward to flying in ours
Sure like to see an update, and some video on Jan's S-51.
You are right. I will bring an update next week.
wondering what the history is on this aircraft? I had the priveledge of flying A26 on fire suppression for several seasons. I'm curious if this may have been one of the Airspray fleet at one time. Great to see it coming back to life!
@HanHan-fw6ki it was not an air spray bird. It was purchased by standard oil along with several others for VIP transport. We've been really lucky to have this plane. Only 6600 hours on the airframe. Our serial number was 5th from the end of the final production and is in really good condition. I really appreciate you watching my videos!
@@mustangbob51 Thats interesting - they were awesome corporate aircraft! We operated several On Mark conversions. Flying the A26 was a real highlight of my aviation life. Keep the videos coming!
@HanHan-fw6ki this was an onmark conversion. You can go to this link to see pics of it in 1990-91 time frame. ruclips.net/video/PLQswcYVgTQ/видео.htmlsi=PODR_20XhBlUgbCx Anytime you're in Utah, please stop by.
I stumbled over this and what I’m missing is the mention of the type of aircraft - In The title - or the description… long time viewers only I guess
I'm sorry for my oversight. This is a 1945 A-26 Invader. The 5th from the end of the line. We've been restoring this since 2011, and we're getting really close to getting it out to a paint booth to paint the wings. We're hoping to start the engines in spring. We shall see. I really appreciate you finding my channel, and I hope you stick around for more episodes.
Going back to 1990 stirred memories of Desert Shield/ Desert Storm when I was a C-130H Crew Chief and during the deployment I was assigned as a DCC Dedicated Crew Chief on Flying Status and flew as an Aircrew member. Mid 60 to mid 70's I was a FM/FE on our Units C-119C, G and L's. we actually were the last USAF/ANG Unit to fly the C-119's and took ours to the Boneyard in September 1975. The C-119C's had R4360 engines and the G and L's had R3350's. My Dad was in our Unit the167th FG during the late 40's to mid 50's when we had P-51 Mustangs and was activated during the Korean War. Our Unit also was the last USAF/ANG Unit to fly the P-51 Mustang retiring the last one in January 1957. Our Unit has a B-26 Invader when we had the 51's and was used as a Gunner Tow Target for live gunnery practice for the 51's. Dad told me he got to take a ride in the B-26 and it was a thrill for him as it handle like a fighter aircraft. My Brother and I retired from our Unit 130th AW, Yeager Airport Charleston, WV , He was a Pilot in our Unit and I ran our C-130H Phase Maintenance Dock. I am almost 80 years old now and I have loved airplanes since I was a young kid. Your A-26 is absolutely beautiful, great restoration and workmanship ! Great story about Matt and his Dad and this airplane.
@walt8089 Walt, it sounds like you have a wonderful story to tell. I don't suppose you are anywhere near Utah? If you are so inclined, please reach out to me by email. bobschroeder94@gmail.com. I really, really appreciate you watching our videos. Please stay tuned.
Love this one, good interview
That's just a lovely story.
It never ceases to amaze me Doug, of the quality of workmanship going into this A26 Restoration Well done to all involved! Thank you also for your updates which I for one enjoy immensely. 👍
I think having Matt being able to revisit the bomber must have been a real pull on the ol’ “heartstrings “. Great video.
Loved the interview with Matt! Good stuff, keep the videos coming.
Just goes to show how much effort goes into small details. Great shout on the right seat choice, seems very appropriate.
You are a class act Doug! It’s getting exciting around there but understandingly the small things take time to address and work out. 👍👍
I have been driving rivets since 1962. And the gun you used to set the two 3/32 rivets (in the nut plate) sounded like a muffler cuter and not a rivet gun. It could be the video sound, but beware a muffler cutter will tend to work harden any rivet larger than a -3.. the restoration looks great.
@rexmyers991 Rex, I think that it was probably the sound. Its been Jan's go-to for 99% of all the rivets that have been driven in this restoration. I really appreciate you watching our videos. We're really looking forward to getting the plumbing behind us.
Bucking bar could be better if there is any room
@av8tore71 I agree, but if you look at the nut plate, it has a wire clamp that was getting in the way. Didn't help that I was standing with very little access. My arm over my head. To do it again, I would definitely get a different buck. Fortunately, it's done. Won't have to do that one again
To see you tune that vacuum system looks like a cross between Sherlock Holmes and tuning the pipe organ at Temple Square. Thanks for the education.
@deehenrie7731 lol, good to hear from you Dee. You should stop by and see for yourself
I liked the split screen moment while it lasted.
I love the polished props on "Pale Rider"
