Добавлен 2 июн 2020
Created in 1982, the Chester County Archives was established to preserve and make available the historic records of Chester County. The archives currently holds over 2,940 volumes and 1,823 cubic feet of original public records of enduring historic and cultural value. Serving over 3,000 researchers a year, the archives is a primary destination for genealogists, property researchers, local historians and academics researching all facets of Chester County history.
In 1985 the archives expanded to include micrographics and records management sections. To help facilitate the disposal, access, preservation and management of current public records, records management ensures that county departments follow the guidelines established by the state of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Courts.
The Chester County Archives is administered by the Chester County Historical Society in cooperation with the County of Chester.

A quarter million people assembled near the steps of the Lincoln Memorial that day to participate in the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom -a political rally advocating for the advancement of African American’s civil and economic rights. Rustin was the chief organ...
"For the County of Chester" - The Oldest Record Preserved at the Chester County Archives
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.Год назад
The oldest record preserved at the Chester County Archives is an old colonial court docket. The first entry was recorded on September 13, 1681-just six months after William Penn received his royal charter from King Charles II. What’s particularly interesting is the fact that the first nine pages of this docket were all recorded before William Penn ever stepped foot on Pennsylvania soil, and bef...

The Upper Uwchlan Township Thumb
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.3 года назад
The division line between Upper Uwchlan and West Vincent is perhaps one of the strangest municipal borders in Chester County, and it tells a fascinating story. The Upper Uwchlan thumb-as we’ll call it-is the product of empire, business ambitions, beaver furs, and even unpaid taxes! It was supposed to play an important role in the New Mediterranean Sea Company’s grandiose plan to purchase 100,00...

Shout out to my family the descendants of George & Alice Maris!!!!
My 8th Great Grand Father was George Maris!!!
Gives me some insight to my own family that was from chester County ❤. Awesome
This is a fabulous video!!! Kudos to the creators. All the amazing history has been so hidden and it is now able to be seen so all can see “the footsteps to Liberty”! Chester has such incredible history that deserves recognition. It’s not about 1776 - it’s about 1681-1682 when Pennsylvania was birthed.
How do I pronounce it?
This is a great video. Alex Johnston is my ancestor. Does anyone have any info on this man. This all happened around 1720
Thank you for this insight! Salute Mr.Rustin
Thank you for such a well put bio video on Bayard Rustin.
Bayard Rustin, Extraordinary Man !
Thank you for showing this. I am a descendant of William Cloud and his son Jeremiah Cloud. This information allows me to research family further and get a better insight of my family's part in American history. My 5th Great grandfather Mordecai Cloud was a property owner somewhere in Chester county during the revolutionary war.
This is an awesome video, I wish more counties would do this!
This is an exceptional tool. Well done!
This is all interesting stuff. Great material. I'm watching this now after having gone to the 245th Brandywine Battle anniversary on Sandy Hollow Park yesterday. I hope more of the open land is preserved.
Fascinating history, thank you for this scholarly work!
Hi John! This was soooo very helpful...thanks for doing this video. Now I have a question. Could you recommend a program for Mac where I can plot these old deeds that accepts the old measurements that these deeds use? I would love to be able to do that. I did a little sleuthing and found some that would cost a chunk of change that I really don't want to pay.
Hi Paula, we're happy to hear that you found some value in the video! We use DeedMapper in house, which is only compatible with Windows, and unfortunately we're not familiar with something similar for Mac (we need more programmers interested in historical property research!!). There is a free online version, however, called Tract Plotter (www.tractplotter.com/). For this you would use "R" OR "P" for the rods/poles/perches measurements. Unfortunately, Tract Plotter does not allow you to overlay the shape on a map, but at least you can see the shapes and compare it to a later map like the 1883 Breuos Farm Atlas. Hope that makes sense, and feel free to email use with any additional questions (CCArchives@Chesco.org).
12:09 pretty cool to see the outline of the county map prior to the incorporation of Delaware County.
🙂 Promo_SM.
Excellent video, very clear and well illustrated.
Very beautiful area and was always intrigued about the history of the place. Great job!
This is cool.
Good Info!
Thank you so much for this! Very informative. My first home (and home of my ancestors) was the tavern at Edenton, on 896 and Street Roads. I'd love to hear more about the history of it, as well. We have a copy of a page of the Eden Star that was published there, in 1814. This location, too, must've been a hive of activity during its time.
This video has been a tremendous aid in searching my Chester County ancestors. Thank you so much!
I think i know where the Graves home was. At our home on Birmingham rd the foundation did't "fit" the house. My father said there was another house there before this one. This was later backed up by a contactor.
Excellent!
This video is amazing! I'm researching a Chester County house remotely so this was extremely useful. THANK YOU so much!
Ditto what Gal220 said Keep this up very informative and well done
Loved this! More videos of Chester County history, please! I would love one of East and West Marlborough Twp and Lower and Upper Oxford Twps. My family roots are there for centuries.
I live in New London and appreciate this history.
A great history lesson of our County.
