I feel that pain. I had a huge encounter set up where my main villain was going to use a mechanic that repeatedly allowed him to call in heavy reinforcements, but it was dependent on him moving around the map through a series of portals, and the party trying to figure out his pattern. On the 1st round, our Paladin drank a Potion of Giant's Strength, which I totally forgot she had. On the 2nd round, she grappled him. I literally couldn't roll high enough to escape. It absolutely destroyed my whole encounter. I created an awesome custom map and everything.

It's funny cuz I watched one of their like after show discussion thingies about this campaign and Brennan did say like "I was a mean dungeon master in this campaign" And I remember thinking "No you were strict with the rules but I mean you let them do stuff and all that" But after refreshing my memory from watching this yeah he was just a properly mean dungeon master this campaign xD

ACoC was my first exposure to Brennan's DMing, so this approach to combat encounters probably did not give me the same kind of whiplash it gave others XD

I have a special place in my heart for Fantasy High as my favorite campaign (im sure so many of us do) but ACoC is so wonderfully built and put together. Definitely my second favorite

It’s useful if very situational. So nobody expects an Eldritch Knight (Murph’s character’s subclass of fighter which is essentially a caster fighter) to have it or even use it

I have never had the patience and attention span for D&D, but if Brennan was my DM, I might just have to be firing on all neurons because this will be either really fun or something awful is about to happen.

On my worst days, I come to this video, it's subtitles, and Brennan's truly devastating machinations and find the will to continue on.

I loved the bullying on Brennan on this show! It's just hilarious. But fr props to Brennan for creating such a brutal and game-of-thronesy campaign. So amazing! One of my favorites out of all dimension 20 campaigns.

God... This isn't terrifying to me, it's just frustrating. I'd rip up my character sheet at the table upon death! I am a forever DM and occasionally a player, but if I were to go in blind into something like this, where I didn't know that this story was so hardcore in tone and in mechanics, I'd flip my shit. You saw how Siobhan and Emily looked at Brennan, and all of them have said that they don't want to return because of the stress that this game had alone! I understand the appeal and I've played a couple of hardcore games before, and I've loved those experiences, but I don't really have the patience nor the understanding it takes to run or play in a dark/gritty setting like this. I hate to see my players displeased or frustrated specifically because of things that they cannot control or at least influence in some way shape or form, and I hate to feel that way myself. This game seems FULL of it just from this glance XD
