This video was taken while riding for my dad's 50th birthday. It had rained pretty hard prior to us arriving. This track doesn't hold rain well at all. Many spots were super slick and difficult to navigate with all the rocks.

This video was taken as I tried to run a fast lap on my 1982 RM465. This bike is a lot to handle, and I ended up running a time that was almost 2 minutes slower than my best time ever around this track. I guess more practice is in order.

      That bike cost me $800 initially. It was the first real dirt bike I ever bought. I love that thing. I'm glad I got such a fun bike to learn how to ride on.

    The mighty RM 465 those were great bikes back in their prime and won a lot of races for riders off topic as a cat owner myself you probably agree cats move on their own terms 😂

      I wasn't sold with the first couple that I rode. Something about the KDX220 didn't work with me. This KDX200 was one of the most fun bikes I'd ever rode when I first took it for a spin. I had my eyes on it from the first time I swung a leg over it until the day I got it. Awesome bike, she is.

    Put a 1981 or 82 Rm125 disc brake front end on it for way better stopping power. I did and it was great. We rode it off road and raced harescrambles with it.

      Fair point, and probably something I'll be looking out for now. I will have to keep the drum for certain events because I want to race and AHRMA race later in the year on this thing and they don't allow disc brakes.

      I'm on a 2002 KDX200. My dad is on a 1982 YZ100 with an IT175 engine. The land owner is on what I believe was a 2018 Husqvarna 300.

      It was dry until about two hours before the race, at which point it rains a torrential down poor for about 45 minutes. It was a total game changer.

    I had an RM 400 back in the day. I think it was the last of the twin shocks so it might have been the"N" model what a beast that was.Great video brother brings back good memories. 👍👍

      The RM400 is one of the most beautiful bikes I've ever seen. I'd love for my 1981 PE175 to resemble its dual shock RM brethren even slightly.

      It's already geared down on the front sprocket. I might just give that a shot at some point.

      Actually on the RM465 it needed to breathe more. Hog out the ports, slap a DG pipe on her, drill out the air box and rejet the carburetor. Rippa! 👍

      @@MichaelLyons-h4i The DG pipe is already installed. The airbox is stock, though. I'm looking for an aftermarket single element air box for improved air flow. I hate drilling out stock parts that aren't made anymore. The internals are stock as far as I'm aware, but the bike is plenty enough for me to try to wrangle.

      It certainly does. The hardest part about riding this bike is keeping it in the power band. The long straights are the only spot that I'm good enough to keep it on the pipe.

      The rm465 is pretty easy to ride, but it's a lot of bike for me at 5'8" and 158 lbs.

    I remember them being brand new I graduated high school in 84 I had a rm 250 1982 I raced I wanted that bike soooo bad back then !! Beautiful machine

      Much appreciated, it was the one machine that I always swore that I would buy if I found one that I could afford and was close enough to get it. This bike popped up after less than two minutes of searching and I knew it was a sign.

    I had a RM 80 back then , I would touch a 465 with a 10 foot pole , 465s were monster motorcycles

      It's actually quite the tame bike to ride. I'd be much more afraid of a modern 250 two stroke. The RM465 has a very predictable powerband that is easy to ride, even for a sportsman rider that I was when I got the bike.

      @@vintageadventurerrides You might be right , i was 11 years old back then , My brother had the 82 r m 250 thats when radiators came out it was a fast bike , Full floater suspention was the #1 suspention . Yamaha came out with radiators in 81 it was on the handle bars then in 82 every body came out with radiators underneth on the frame benhind the front shocks .

      @@james-b7j7v Suzuki came out with their first liquid cooled bike in 1981 with the RM125. It was a revolutionary bike. Thankfully for my pride in Suzuki, they put the radiator in the right place unlike Yamaha.

Mark barnett was the suzuki rider for moto cross , he was real good . i thought yamaha came out with radiators first ,, I just remember that radiator on their Handle bars

    I rode my rm465z back in the mid 80's,( sometimes on the tar road too) it was like 1st gear- hmmm goin pretty fast, 2nd gear- going faster now!, 3rd gear- ok hang on tighter, things i'm passing starting to become blury, 4th gear- realisation i am now on board a rocket machine that defies my riding ability and i just might die if i continue winding it out! Yet still i would love to get another one.( i have a 1981 cr450r at present, fully restored).enjoyed your video clip! Cheers Paul, Australia.

      Hey man, thanks for being an international viewer. I've been curious how those old 450 and 480 Hondas run. There's reportedly a guy in my area with a CR480 that's a damn good rider, but I've never met him or seen the bike. The RM465 sure is a fun bike. It's very tame feeling to me, but it scared the crap out of a buddy of mine who had an IT465 that was the first big bore I'd ever rode.

      This trail is mainly ridden in third. Occasionally second comes in order for the super tight stuff, but it's rarely used. I do have this bike geared lower with an 11 tooth front sprocket replacing the factory 12 tooth.
